That is really sad.I think that the US Bishops actually said that a nod of the head was sufficient. Pretty sad situation.

Lets stop bashing the Bishops and avoid being Phariseesic Catholics. Maybe they said it was sufficient because they want to place more emphasis on the interior state of the person instead of the external (donât get me wrong, if I had it my way, everyone would be flat on their faces during mass). That is really sad.![]()

This is the place to vent. Itâs a discussion forum. We come here and show our distain instead of going to our parishes.Lets stop bashing the Bishops and avoid being Phariseesic Catholics. Why donât all of you who have this concern all offer a sacrifice of fasting from food and drink (water ok) from midnight till noon so that we can make up for anotherâs irreverence.
God Bless
Sometimes, I go to a church where there are no kneelers. I kneel anyway. It makes me feel like a rebelI recently moved and now attend a church with no kneelers. Everyone stands during the Eucharistic Prayer and Consecration, which feels wrong to me. Would sitting be a more reverant posture?
The problem here is not that there are no kneelers as I presume you still have two of them in the middle of both of your legs. It would seem that your problem is that everyone else is standing. Ask your priest why and ask him if he would mind if you used your two serviceable kneelers.I recently moved and now attend a church with no kneelers. We have always kneeled but I can see where standing could also be respectful, thinking that people stand up when a dignitary enters a room. Before 1980 I had never attended Mass where I did not kneel for the Eucharistic Prayers and Consecration. About 1980 our parish started to stand through the whole period and we continued doing so until about five years ago. I honestly was never able to say that one position felt any more reverent than the other. About five years ago our Bishop finally said to kneel and we did without anyone getting all bent out of shape. My legs have gone south on me so I can stand, but not kneel. I have to sit which I was told is preferable for the handicapped, but which I have to say does not feel as reverent and respectful as standing. There was a brief period before the Bishop spoke up when a young assistant pastor got some to kneel while evryone else stood. In my opinion that was worse than everyone doing either one or the other and led to more strife among the parish members than I can remember for any other disagreement.
I went to a parish once when I was out of town and they didnât have kneelers. Iâm so used to kneeling that I couldnât get into it. I was all out of sync. Itâ doesnât take muchWe have always kneeled but I can see where standing could also be respectful, thinking that people stand up when a dignitary enters a room.
I donât think Iâd want to go there again, if I were you. I love my parish here at home where we kneel at all the right times, and receive on the tongue from a priest any time we want to.I went to a parish once when I was out of town and they didnât have kneelers. It was a beautiful parish I visited but I thought it was rude when a women went up to recieve on her tongue and was refused, they made her use her hands. Now i know itâs ok either wayâŚsheesh.
Well luckily I had been warned before about these Parishes so I just went along. We were out of town and wanted to attend mass. I feel as you do. Anyone who wants to recieve on the tongue, can. My priest is very good about this. The thing is, I grew up Protestant so kneeling is even more important to me. Itâs one of the things I love about being Catholic.I donât think Iâd want to go there again, if I were you. Are you very tall, Hoosier?I much prefer kneeling on the floor and will often do so if alone in the pew whether or not there is a kneeler. Itâs easier on me for some reason.
We stand after receiving.
I usually donât genuflect, as I was told by Fr B that a deep bow was properly reverent.
I generally sit when in prayer, or less often stand. I very rarely kneel to pray.
We can receive either way in my parish. We also kneel, but I can see where standing can be reverant.I went to a parish once when I was out of town and they didnât have kneelers. ya I can see it as well. We stand when the bride enters or when royality enters, it makes sense. We can receive either way in my parish. We also kneel, but I can see where standing can be reverant.
I am amazed that some Parishes donât have kneelers. Kneeling has been the tradition of the Church for a long time. In fact does anyone know of a reference to people standing during the Consecration before Vatican II? Standing during the consecration seems to fall into the category of, âwe are going to do things different now because the Church is progressive.â Kneeling shows much more reverence than standing and yes we stand when royality enters the room, but God isnât royalityâŚhe is GOD.
âŚand full prostration is even more reverent than kneeling⌠soooooooooo, yeaâŚ
I will stand for a humanâkneel for God.
