An acquaintance of mine on Facebook posted this on her wall today, apparently a quote said by Dr. Seuss: “A person’s a person, no matter how small.”

I’m not sure if that really is a quote said by Dr. Seuss (it does sound like something he would definitely say in his books though) but it got me thinking about the issue of abortion. A person is a person no matter what embryonic stage he/she is in while in the mother’s womb. I suppose this could be true in another real sense as well (at least the first part of the quote): I know on March 21 was World Down Syndrome Day and I can’t believe the inhumane and disgusting comments I see made by people against those with DS or other disabilities (“just abort them”). Do we really want these misguided people making such decisions for that? Not to mention, it’s completely inappropriate to tell people that they don’t deserve to live and should have been murdered.

I do fear for our future.

wiki:
Horton Hears a Who! is a children’s book written and illustrated by Theodor Seuss Geisel under the name Dr. Seuss and published in 1954…]

Geisel began work on Horton Hears a Who! in the fall of 1953. The book’s main theme, “a person’s a person no matter how small”, was Geisel’s reaction to his visit to Japan, where the importance of the individual was an exciting new concept.[1] Geisel, who had harbored strong anti-Japan sentiments before and during World War II, changed his views dramatically after the war and used this book as an allegory for the American post-war occupation of the country.[2] He dedicated the book to a Japanese friend.
If you want to hear the full quote yourself and have 30 seconds to spare go here:

I remember seeing an old quote in lots of places when I was younger, but dont see it anymore for some reason…

‘God dont make no junk’

I remember seeing this as posters in school, in doctors offices, etc when i was younger, but have not see it since the early 90s, I guess its something not used anymore?

You are right though, this world is very cruel when it comes to people with disabilities, especially DS.
