Will same-sex marriage ceremonies be allowed at the Catholic Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point?

“The answer is ‘no,’” said Taylor Henry, director of public affairs and media relations for the Catholic Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA, and spokesman for Archbishop Timothy Broglio, who certifies all Catholic chaplains for the armed services.

“Holy Trinity is an actual Catholic parish, unlike the non-denominational chapels that are found on other military installations, and the only services held there are Catholic services. The Catholic Church does not perform the sacrament of matrimony for same-sex couples,” he said.

What about other Catholic chapels on other military bases?

“What non-Catholic chaplains do in nondenominational chapels on U.S. military grounds around the world will be up to the military, but no Catholic chaplain is authorized to perform a same-sex marriage under any circumstances,” Henry added.

But will they be allowed to speak out against it in sermons? I think the time is soon approaching when such views will be considered hate speech and real Christian churches will be barred from anything even remotely connected with pubic institutions. This is a nice stand from the Catholic Church, but it must coincide with a challenge to secular morality or it will be but a footnote in a losing war.
 
Oh boy! I wonder if the ACLU will be all over this?

Not that I would want to back down from that kind of fight… but this seems to be the stuff they salivate like Pavlov’s dog for.

What does it matter what these do or say? it makes no difference to us. Remember the Saints of the Church and how they died and why.

You’re right, it doesn’t matter what they say. Just an opinion of the current trending of the left.

On a side note, I’ll be going to Westpoint to watch a hockey game between Canada’s Royal Military College and Westpoint this February. I’m sure we’ll get our butts handed to us, but it should be good fun and some comradary between the canucks and the yanks.👍

I just wonder if this is the beginning of the end of having a Catholic chapel on any military installation. If same-sex “marriages” are banned by the Church but are allowed by the DOD, it seems to me that we will ultimately see an argument that the Church, while allowed to have its rules, is not compatible with DOD rules and will have to move the chapel off base.

I’ve been to the Holy Trinity Catholic Chapel at West Point. Beautiful interior!

And I loved the stained-glass windows depicting military Saints and military Orders in the Church-two of them show St. Michael the Archangel (with a ‘regulation West Point male haircut’ 😃 ) and St. Joan of Arc!

Because it is a dedicated chaple, they really couldn’t do anything to change the policy. A couple marrying at the Catholic chapel at West Point has to undergo the same process as at any other Catholic chuch - check for impediments, pre-cana, etc.

However, they could try to get the chapel closed altogether or to move Catholic services to a non-denominational setting. I don’t know who owns the actual building. If it’s the Church, they can’t touch it.

That will be fine too. Remember what our Lord said, shake the dust of your sandals and leave. There will be more mercy to sodoma than to those who reject HIs Church.

If they dont want the Church, God will take care of them in due time. I am not worried about the pagans.

Well, that certainly makes more sense. And, yep, we’re sliding into an pit alright. Sometimes I really think the End Times are approaching - seems all the signs are there!. But then I think, well, it’s too easy to panic, and the power of Christ is great indeed. But, to be honest, and going off the OP (sorry), the worse part is the self-inflicted wounds of the Church - child abuse, maladministration, materialism, and so on. Now, that hurts!

I think most of us understood. Your “praise God” comment indicated approval of the Chapel’s decision. Sadly, I think it’s just a matter of time before even that kind of freedom is attacked and eventually denied.
