**SACRAMENTO - **The state Legislature is about to weigh in on a question that stirs impassioned debate among moms and dads: Should parents spank their children?
Assemblywoman Sally Lieber, D-Mountain View, wants to outlaw spanking children up to 3 years old. If she succeeds, California would become the first state in the nation to explicitly ban parents from smacking their kids.
Making a swat on the behind a misdemeanor might seem a bit much for some – and the chances of the idea becoming law appear slim, at best – but Lieber begs to differ.
I think it's pretty hard to argue you need to beat a child 3 years old or younger,'' Lieber said. Is it OK to whip a 1-year-old or a 6-month-old or a newborn?’’

While I personally would not spank a child younger than three, I think this bill opens up a dangerous Pandora’s box.
There are those out there that want to ban all forms of corporal punishment altogether, including a slap on the hand.
This woman also has no children of her own, also, so how does she know what it’s like to raise kids?

We should pause and allow ourself to be blown away by this gross presumption of power that this socialist thinks that she has. This is totally unAmerican.

STAY AWAY FROM OUR KIDS

I never spanked my daughters – when the would throw tantrums, I would dash a glass of cold water in their faces, and that would break up that behavior.

On the other hand, when I was a kid, if I wanted to do something and you wanted to stop me, you had to hit me with a 2X4.😃

No kidding. Talk about the anti-american revolution.

Very soon government will raise the children. They will be sent to a special place where parenting is done by robots. This will free-up parents to live a fun life and visit the children from time to time. Children will be taught that they can do anything they want and that selfish only means “taking care of my needs”. The traditional family as we have known it will fade away and the “new” family will emerge. So, how will this be monitored? Will there be a neighborhood watch dog to check and see if anyone was spanked today? Will there be a mommy and daddy “time out” for being naughty to the darlings? A spat on the bottom is “abuse”? There is a huge difference between a “spanking” and a “beating”. Maybe parents in Ca. need to demonstrate the difference by using law-makers to demonstrate on.

I think this is where Hillary is going when she says “it takes a village”.

I think that is a scary but true prognostication.

But you left out that people will need a govt. issued license to be a parent. No license equals forced sterylization.
In order to get a license parents must go through govt. indocrination.

Maybe Hillary should have done that to Bill when he misbehaved.😃

The government already raises children. If you’d like to see some of those children, go to any ghetto and watch the kids hanging out, selling and using drugs.

My wife and I were once thinking about becoming Foster Parents – until the Child Protective Services people explained to us that we would keep a child only a few weeks, and then it would be moved “to keep it from becoming attached to the foster parents!”

It seems that makes trouble for Child Protective Services if the children and their care-givers get attached to each other!

Is it any wonder that children shuttled from one foster home to another to avoid “getting attached” grow up to be criminals and drug addicts?

I am volunteer Guardian Ad Litem. My heart breaks over and over. So many reasons that children are in the system, but the biggest of all is parental addiction. Our laws must change. Being a foster parent is noble and heart breaking. However, if you make a difference for even one child, it is really worth it. I just pray a lot that the decisions I make concerning His most precious of all, is the right decision for the child in the long run.

Yes – and while we do a lot with childern here, I can’t bring myself to be a part of a system that denies children the love and sense of belonging they need. So I don’t work with the government.

Where to even begin? Its sad but true that nearly every branch of the government has become exceedingly arrogant. Not only do they ignore what thier actual duties are according to their local constitutions, or the constitution of this government as a whole, but they also treat their constituents as backwards, uneducated, unruly children that need to have someone guide them to the “right” answers and way of life.

However, before we go off on how horrible the government is, and how bad our politicians are . . . we did this to ourselves. Everytime someone votes for someone that “seems nice” without doing research on them, and every time we get fed up and decide not to vote because we don’t like any of the candidates. Every time we say they are all crooked or not to be trusted, we give them license to act horribly, because they CAN’T act worse than our presumptions. Our standards for our politicians is insanely low, so they live “up” to them.

Unfortunately, while much about our government is frustrating (especially our Judicial branch, which WE the voters can’t directly influence), the things we can have influence on we don’t many times. We have just as much responsibility in a democracy for how bad things have gotten.

More like Communism to me.

california is the most worthless state in the union. i know there are good people there, but they have more flakes per capita than anywhere else. every commie hippie back east moved out there post 60’s. doesn’t surprise me this garbage originates in that anti-family gay bastion.

since when is it governments role to tell us how to raise our children?? that’s none of their damn buisness!!! the government works to protect the family, not to undermine it.

obviously communism is still a threat. they want total control of how we raise our kids. it makes me sick.

Gotta love those who wanna protect children from their parents, unless those parents want to murder them pre-birth–then they have their full and unquestioning support.

😦

The sad thing is, we have no good mechanism in our Constitution for holding these people responsible for the damage they do.

If a commercial firm did something like this, we could sue them into bankruptcy.
