Hello, I was wondering if I’m allowed to marry a woman. I was born with spina bifida and I’m wheelchair bound. I’m able to achieve an erection and even get a climax. However I probably suffer from something called retrograde ejaculation (because I was born with an incomplete spinal cord.) so it’s very unlikely for me to start a new life. I teach about it when it comes to spina bifida and its very common. Probably I have sperm but most likely it will never exist my penis by natural means. I have prejeculate which according to some studies can contain spermatazoids but I guess it refers to men having ejaculations outside their bodies.

I’m aware of the papal decision from 1587 to ban eunchs (so men without testicales ) from marriage because they cannot emit the “true semen”. I’m also aware of the CDF decision from 1977 that no ejaculation from testicales is required. I’m little confused, who is wrong on the matter?

As long as the marriage can be consummated, you can get married. Infertility is not an impediment under current law.

Impotence is what creates a natural impediment for entering a marriage. It sounds like you can perform, which means that any other sterility you may have will NOT prevent you from entering a marriage. Beyond that, please discuss with a priest.

But why in 1587 pope Sixtus V decided that eunuchs cannot marry? If they lacked of testicles they could penetrate and even achieve climax but without sperm transmited to women’s vagina. So it looks like many marriages were invalidly nullified. My understanding is that marriage is valid or not regardless of its time.

Make sure that it is known. See this article which refers to CIC Canon 1098:
Can. 1098 A person contracts invalidly who enters into a marriage deceived by malice, perpetrated to obtain consent, concerning some quality of the other partner which by its very nature can gravely disturb the partnership of conjugal life.

Then it sounds like you have no impediment. God bless you and your bride.
