Hello friends,
For the past 2+ years, I have been doing a lot of reading to learn as much about my faith as I can. I was having a recent conversation with a non-Christian friend regarding the Old Testament. During that conversation, he told me that, other than the book of Exodus, there is no historical justification to support the fact that the Exodus (captivity, plagues, and Moses leading the Israelites out of captivity) ever occurred.
I’ve done some brief Internet research on this. I’ve read some documents that suggest there is a lack of non-biblical support; however, the explanation for this is that ancient cultures that were powerful in their day would intentionally leave their defeats out of the history books to avoid embarrassment.
I read another source that stated the Exodus did not happen. For proof, the source stated that it would be impossible due to the sheer number of people living for so many years in the desert to not leave behind a significant amount of trash, artifacts, etc. The source stated that archeologists have never located any artifacts in the Egyptian desert that would verify the story of the Exodus.
Can any of you point me in the right direction where I can learn more about this? Thanks
