I have been praying for the conversion of my sister and brother-in-law for years. They are born-agains, and have now moved from attacking me to being hungry for more and more Catholic information, especially my brother-in-law. I am very encouraged, however he had a question today which stumped me He asked me if a non-catholic can go to confession.:confused: I told him I thought I remembered Fr Grochel saying he had heard confessions of all manner of people, however it was not considered a sacrament for them, no actual pardon, but was somehow very freeing for them in any case. Is this true?
 
From The Code of Canon Law:
Canon 844 §1 Catholic ministers may lawfully administer the sacraments only to catholic members of Christ’s faithful, who equally may lawfully receive them only from catholic ministers, except as provided in §§2, 3 and 4 of this canon and in can. 861 §2.

I suggest you have your brother-in-law talk with your priest.
 
I agree with Campeador’s advice.

As to the Cannon - he is also correct - there are exceptions, but they are very limited.

For what its worth, it was the strong desire/drawing to confession and the Eucharist that ultimately led to my crossing the Tiber.

I think I heard the same program 😃

Yes he can, but the priest will not be able to grant him absolution.
