Non-Catholic? Why are you on this forum?

Do you still visit high-church parishes?
I have a few times, but the more I do so, the more I realize that I have made the correct decision. I still enjoy the music, the sacred theater of a well-designed ritual, the beauty of the buildings, but it is the same enjoyment and appreciation I would have at a beautiful work of art, symphony, a well-crafted play. I find no more spiritual fulfillment in the church than in those others.

I am just curious to know what the reasons are that so many non-Catholics are on this forum. This is Catholic Answers. Are you here to convert - yourself - or us? Do you have a true curiousity or do you just want to show us the error of our ways?
*Non-Catholic? Why are you on this forum? *

Uhhhh because it is a Non Catholic forum 😃

{Seriously…I already answer this seriously earlier in the thread but could not resist the obvious}

**hi i’m new here and i just came to see how catholics and others religions are similar and different. and also because i need some help from catholics, i’m a catholic but in 2 weeks i’m going o be baptize in the mormon church and i’m only 16 but i think i dont believe in the catholic church **
:)Sigfredo Maybe you should check things out before you become a Mormon. The mormon religion dosn’t tell you alot of what they believe in at first. Some things you find out about thier religion may shock you.

Mormons are not Christians, Sigifredo! What a mistake you are about to make.

Where are your parents?

LoL. I’d call that a knee-jerk reaction.
I, too have often wondered why non-Catholics come here. I read the non-Catholic threads on this forum to find out about other faiths. I am truly amazed and heartened that so many non-Catholics are curious about the cc. My experience with Protestantism was always so negative. I was being told in a non-denominational Bible study I was involved in for two years that Catholics don’t read the Bible, being told all sorts of falsehoods about what the cc teaches. When I disputed their false assertions, they wouldn’t believe me. They even told me I would go to Hell. Then one of them proudly announced she would only marry a Christian, so she made her Catholic boyfriend shout out on the balcony that ā€œJESUS IS MY PERSONAL LORD AND SAVIOR.ā€ I was horrified. I hope God put me there for a reason. I left after two years and started my own Bible Study at my parish.

I am also quite put-off by the belligerent tone of the responses to the original post, and assumptions about Philo’s intentions. Although the forum is ā€œNon-Catholic Religions,ā€ it is hosted by Catholics and supported by money and donations from cc. I see it as a way of educating ourselves. In fact the more I read, the more I am convinced of the truth of the cc.

I just joined the forum recently and the number one reason I joined is that there appears to be a depth of thought and discussion here that is sorely lacking in most religious forums.

Am not Catholic, never have been, (though I regularly attended a Tuesday night Charismatic mass at St. Dominics in Eagle Rock, CA when I was much younger) but my wife was raised Catholic and some of her family still is. My thought is that lurking and discussing here may help me understand her mindset. Though she is no longer Catholic, she has certainly been deeply effected by her upbringing.

I’m really a pretty open minded Protestant. I appreciate liturgy, classical music, history, form and order…and jump-up-and-down passionate Pentecostal worship and don’t-know-what-will-happen-next spontaneity. My heart and mind are open to new (or old) concepts and I enjoy a reasoned discussion.

Scotishcollen

Pick up a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and THAT is our position on everything I can think of.šŸ™‚

Watch out, if you stray here often enough (it is addicting) you may end up bringing your wife back home to Rome! 😃

Given some of the acrimonious arguments I’ve been involved in recently (particularly the accusation by one poster that I use more pejorative language about Catholics than about Protestants), I think I should answer this question, though I’ve been avoiding it!

I am here first and foremost because I have been considering the claims of the Catholic Church for about twelve years. Since I’ve never quite been able to bring myself to the point of certainty necessary to take the plunge, I make up for it by hanging out here. Ostensibly I use this board to work through the issues, though at this point I don’t know how helpful it is–perhaps I’m just scratching an itch. Meanwhile, I hope that as a church historian I can bring some perspective to the issues discussed here. I do not of course claim to be unbiased, but my biases are pretty complicated:D So on the whole I think my posts help to keep both sides honest, though sometimes they just seem to annoy people. And, of course, hanging out here helps keep me honest as well, by forcing me to confront the claims of Catholicism (even though sometimes the way those claims are presented discredits more than helping the cause of Catholicism).

You’ve also gotten more šŸ‘ from Catholics though.

HA! Now I know why you haven’t joined the Swim Team…yet

Keep on coming

We all have our biases, we’re human

Truth sometimes hurts.

I wouldn’t say that MOST of your claim discredit the CC. If you stick to keeping honest, I’ll be watching for your joining the Swim Team.

I am not a catholic. I believe in the Divine but I dont believe in religion. I have no desire to convert anyone. I just enjoy discussing religious matters. What attracted me to this forum is the variety of views and the presence of scholars & priests. What finally convinced me to register is the thread on why a anyone should or should not convert to catholicism.

Sorry, that’s not what I meant. I was saying that sometimes Catholics make what I think are bad arguments, and this obviously puts me off Catholicism rather than helping to convince me. So I really don’t know if by and large my participation on this board has helped keep me Protestant or has helped keep me from giving up on Catholicism. Some of both, although I can’t see ever giving up on Catholicism. At the very least, I hope for some kind of corporate reunion in which I could participate.

But you already know the Truth, and bad arguments by Catholics won’t change that. We’ve gotten bad arguments by Protestants, particularly Fundamentalists, and we’ve gotten good arguments from Catholics.

Might as well join the Team, corporate reunion will not happen in our lifetimes.

You’d be good at drying up some of the watered down theology that’s been passing for Catholocism these last few years. 😃

Contarini, can you please share your views on the other thread on why you think a person should or should not join catholicism. šŸ™‚

Because there is a section here titled: **Non-Catholic Religions ** LOL And I am curious about you guys being that I was baptized as one of you peeps as an infant. Besides, this would be a dull area if there were no non-catholic to post! Admit it, you would miss us if we were not here. Well…some of you would. šŸ‘

I bet some wake up and sayā€¦ā€œAhh, now lets see what the non-catholics have posted!ā€
Actually, in the main I am here because I am Catholic and I like to have discussions and meet fellow-Catholics. This being the largest [and most successful] Catholic Forum in the world.

I have made friends with some non-Catholics and we regularly email, but as often we also PM each other on this forum.

I do not nor have I ever woken up and say ā€˜ahh now let’s see what the non-Catholics have posted!’ šŸ˜‰
