if not, what do you think it happened to her?

do you believe that the apostles gave their authority to others to continue building the Church?

How do you think that the early christians carried on the teachings of the Apostles after their deaths?

is it any Church today that resembles the early church according to what you know?

God bless all.

If so, what do you think it happened to her?

She is alive and well…she has always been alive and well. God has always had a People who followed Him and listened to His voice.

do you believe this Church still here today?

**Yes, the Assembly of God’s people, the Meeting, the Ecclesia, the Gathering of those who have put their faith in Him is alive and well. The “blood bought” Ones who walk in newness of life in Regeneration through the Holy Spirit, those whom take upon them the nature of Christ through New Life in him are His Body in this world, His Hands, His Feet, His Voice speaking comfort and love, telling them “what love the Father has bestowed upon us” in Christ Jesus… **

if not, what do you think it happened to her?

Nothing…the redeemed have walked among us sharing His love and comfort.

do you believe that the apostles gave their authority to others to continue building the Church?

The only authority the apostles had came from Christ to share the Good News of the Incarnation. To share the news of the New Covenant prefigured among the Jewish people to the world, from the Jewish people the whole world would be blessed. To share the News that the Priesthood of Christ now made a way for each of us to have direct access to God with no need of ritual, ordinance, sacrament or rite. That in Christ we are beloved children of the Father…He has opened the Way so no man need stand in our path to restrict us or play intermediary for us…we each may approach God in confidence because of what Christ has done for us.

How do you think that the early christians carried on the teachings of the Apostles after their deaths?

**They gathered in communities as God’s covenant People and shared His love and message of redemption as it was lived out in community among themselves. Some continued to practice Jewish ritual and dietary restrictions. Others were liberated from such rituals as they recognized that the work of Christ had caused all ritual requirements and ordinances to cease any salvic merit. **

what do you say the early christians tought and believed after the Apostles were gone?

By the end of the second century a group of leaders joined in a federation of churches under a chosen leadership claiming “authority” from the Apostles around Rome as it was the center of the Empire. However other groups who did not follow the leadership claimed by those in Rome continued to teach and preach the Good News. In Egypt, Alexandria was a center, in time they gathered into a body which became the Coptic church. In Ethiopia a similar occurance. As the federation of churches whith Rome as it’s center began decreeing who and who was not “catholic”. In time all other assemblies who held some differing beliefs died out. We know the Ebionites continued in the Middle East until the fourth century. Some speculated on the nature of God and Christ and were labled “Gnostic”. In time the "proto-catholic/orthodox labeled all who discented from their authority “heretic”.

is it any Church today that resembles the early church according to what you know?

Very much so, to day with all it’s various sects and teachings mirror very much what occured in those frist centuries. Each group vying for “authority” over others…“I am of Paul, I am of Cephas, I am of Apollos”…is nothing new…nor has this striving ceased. We are all “in Christ” and in Him we find wholeness.

God bless all.

direct access to God. i see. so why do you think Jesus summoned 13 Apostled to continue His work here on earth, if He did not need any man to stand in our path to God?

Federation of churches? so your church derived from a heretic groups?

The church is definitely still here. It’s the body of Christ which is all his people.
if not, what do you think it happened to her?
Answered above
do you believe that the apostles gave their authority to others to continue building the Church?
It wasn’t and isn’t a matter of authority. All believers have the responsibility to spread the Gospel of Christ. We see this in the book of Acts.
How do you think that the early christians carried on the teachings of the Apostles after their deaths?
Scripture if they had it otherwise oral transmission.
what do you say the early christians tought and believed after the Apostles were gone?
Repent of your sin and be baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Spirit.
is it any Church today that resembles the early church according to what you know?
I believe all Christian churches attempt to stay true to what is written in scripture. Although the RCC will claim Apostolic succession and sacred tradition.
God bless all.
Blessings to you too.

So you say that the Church is nothing but a bunch of people who claim to be christians no matter what each believe and preach?
without authority?

blessings to all.

That’s a useless statement. People who claim to be Christians believe IN Christ. Not everyone is going to agree on every single detail. Roman Catholics don’t even have that luxury. You’re getting too hung up on authority.
**so, do you say that Jesus commanded all of His followers to teach all He commanded and did not summoned any one in particular? **
The great commission applies to us all. If that was not the case then why didn’t the Apostles stop the believers in Acts from preaching?? When Christians fled Jerusalem after the stoning of Stephen they preached in Antioch. All the Apostles did was send Barnabas who in turn encouraged them to stay strong in their faith. No one ever said you can’t preach because you don’t have authority.
???
that is it? nothing more? we dont need to do nothing else?
What else do you want?? We repent of our sin, get baptized and serve the Lord.
do you think she has apostolic succession? why or why not?
No I do not. I think we may be able to trace the roots of some churches back to some of the Apostles who founded them. But how about all of the believers that existed way out in the country side that never met an Apostle? There were several churches that existed in people’s houses. They had no Apostolic succession whatsoever. Apostolic succession simply isn’t a requirement and is not reflective of our creeds. We believe in an Apostolic church meaning the teachings of the Apostles, not Apostolic succession.

The Church Christ founded IS here today because he said that the gates of Hell would not prevail against it, but it is NOT merely a denomination. Denominations are from man, Catholic, Anglican, Baptist etc. Those who are the people of God as Paul spoke of are in many different denominations today. The Scriptures don’t speak of any specific denomination being the true Church. One holy catholic and apostolic Church is people, not a denomination.

Good post. The “Church” is not a building made of stone and mortar, but a People composed of very real people.

Who said ‘church’ is a building made of stone and mortar.
Catholics believe ‘church’ is ‘community’.

‘Catholic’ is not a denomination and is not from man.
Jesus founded ***a ***church.
He gave the apostles authority to teach as well as forgive sins.
We are *all *told to spread the word.

Paul spoke to different churches (locations), not denominations that had differing understanding of Jesus’ teachings.
Paul called for unity.
All of the churches Paul spoke to agreed.

What, though, are we to do today if we disagree regarding in our understanding of what Jesus taught?

I disagree and more so you are wrong.

but only believe that they alone are THE Community. This is where I vehimately disagree.

there is only One Holy Catholic Apostolic Church. it includes only catholics faithfull. not others from denominational congregations. if you are not under the authority of this Church you are not catholic.

sorry, i have to bring you to reality. no one in the world would call any protestant catholic. in case you dont know this.
everyone in the world know who are the catholics and who are the protestants. you should know that to.

peace.

Just more typical Catholic opinion but thats ok. This is your forum. Do what you will.

What is it okay for us to disagree on?
Paul seems to call for unity.
What else do you want?? We repent of our sin, get baptized and serve the Lord.
Let’s see what scripture says is necessary…

As a Catholic, I believe what the Bible says in terms of what one must do in order to get to Heaven – Have faith (Rom 3:28, John 3:16, 1 John 4:15); forgive the sins of others (Matt 6:14-15); care for one’s family (1 Tim 5:8); feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit the sick and imprisoned (Matt 25:31-46); keep the Commandments (Matt 19:17 and 1 John 2:3-4); love my brother (1 John 2:10); deny ourselves and pick up our cross daily (Luke 9:23); do the will of the Father (Matt 7:21); eat the flesh and drink the blood of the Son of Man (John 6:51-58); give a return for the talents the Master has given us (Matt 25:14-30); be baptized (John 3:3-5, 1 Ptr 3:20-21); confess our sins (1 John 1:9)…all by the grace of God.
But how about all of the believers that existed way out in the country side that never met an Apostle?
I’ve never met an apostle, either, but I have their teachings.
Meeting an apostle isn’t a requirement to learn Jesus’ word.
There were several churches that existed in people’s houses. They had no Apostolic succession whatsoever. Apostolic succession simply isn’t a requirement and is not reflective of our creeds.
Now apostles appointed teachers, and directed them to appoint others that would teach.
Those teachers that did go to the countryside had the teaching authority that comes from the apostles.
We believe in an Apostolic church meaning the teachings of the Apostles, not Apostolic succession.
You’ve created a new definition here.
Apostolic succession is visible in scripture.
We see Judas replaced in Acts 1. Judas was gone, but his position (‘bishopric’ in the KJV) remained. This office is filled.

1 Tim 3:1 whoever aspires to the office of bishop desires a noble task

1 Tim 1:18 I entrust this charge to you, Timothy, my child,

1 Tim 1:3; I repeat the request I made of you when I was on my way to Macedonia, that you stay in Ephesus to instruct certain people not to teach false doctrines

Looks like Timothy has authority to teach.
… and what is the purpose of the ‘office of bishop’ Paul talks about?

Salut!

paul simply says that we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Where do you come up with this salvation formula that looks more like a Calculus equation?

but only believe that they alone are THE Community. This is where I vehimately disagree.
We believe we are the church that Jesus founded.
We only see other Christians as separated brethren and love them.
We recognize that there is *some *truth in every non-Catholic Christian community.
However, we do believe that none of them have the fullness of truth.

I am very much aware of how Catholics believe (textbook belief) regarding Protestants. Thank you.

I absolutely agree that we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ!

AMEN!

We must read all of scripture.
I implore you … Take the time to read the scripture I point to.
