Judging by the way things have gone for you in your debates, I can’t say I’m that surprised (see: %between%How do Protestants know which Canon to use?).

Maybe if you remove the emotional block of, “they can’t be right, 'cuz they’re…they’re…C-C-C-Catholic!” you might get a little more progress.

Just a thought.

Several weeks ago, I attended a non-Catholic funeral (Assembly of God) for a 16-year-old who was killed in a car crash, who was very dedicated to Jesus. Let me assure you that, while there was remembrances of the deceased, Jesus was being worshiped and glorified throughout the service through the music, testimonies and sermon. I can appreciate that a funeral Mass focuses on worshiping God. But you cannot broadbrush all non-Catholic (Protestant) funerals as not having a focus on God, simply because they may not follow the exact pattern of the Mass.
I apologize for the insensitvity and gross generalization of my remark. My comment was not charitable and based on personal, not exhaustive, experiences, and for that I am sorry.

Jim-

It’s easy to fall into generalizations, I’m afraid we all fall prey to this, on every side. I have been in many types of Protestant funerals and weddings, and they do vary in degrees of Christ centeredness. And coming from AOG, I have attended some very moving, very Christ centered funerals, my uncle’s passing last year being one recently.

On the other hand I have been to some where you would have no idea you were in a church rather than a funeral home or public auditorium. So, it is really determined by the spiritual character of each particular congregation and it’s pastor as to the tone.

We all have room to learn. 😉

Thanks Jeanette! I think your words sum it up best! And I greatly appreciate this forum, where we can share and learn from each other (I know I’ve said it before, but it’s worth repeating). God bless!

I would shred you in a debate. You against me. Pick the topic 🙂
Start a post and just wait. 👍
Lawyers are my speciality.
Two days prep time sufficient?
Just let me know know the topic. No cut and paste jobs either.

This site was a contributing factor in my conversion from Protestantism to Roman Catholicism. I’ll contend that it “helped”, but what really helped the most was seeing the “leadership” of several protestant churches from the inside.

…as well as being around many “charasmatic” worshippers.

But this site helped answer questions and knock down those “programmed brick walls” my parents put up to keep me Presbyterian.

Of course…me actually taking the chance and going to a RC mass was 50% of what did it. I was really taken by the singular focus on Christ, despite being told the opposite was true over the years.

But still, this site was quite valuable to me during that time.

Very sure of yourself, I see. Me - I have no idea whether I would win or lose a debate; I only lay claim to Truth.

The Eucharist.

In two days, or right now?
Lawyers are my speciality.
(1) I’m not a lawyer.
(2) You specialize in debating lawyers in religious matters? Doesn’t seem like the most difficult crowd…
Two days prep time sufficient?
Take as much time as you need - I’ll be here when you’re ready.
No cut and paste jobs either.
Does that mean I have to type out the Church Fathers long-hand?

No cut and pasting the early church fathers would be fine. It is my intention to use them as well. I think the no cut and paste rule is relatively clear. When you say Eucharist, what specifically are you talking about? How do you know we disagree yet? It seems to be the only thing you are certain of is I have not faired well in debates, I possibly have sought speech pathology services for a stutter, and that I am emotionally blocked. What specifically is your stance? My background is Methodist so I am not sure specifically sure what you mean by Eucharist. I am glad you contend that you have the “Truth”. That will make this all the more enjoyable.

why don’t you guys just follow the forum rules on c&p and post only the smallest relevent portion of the passage in question and the supply the link to the document?

The only purpose is to check primary sources anyway…

What do you mean by seeing some of the Protestant leadership from inside? On one of the threads the topic was about corrupt Popes like the Borgias. You have no problem with them? What right do you have to judge the leadership in the Protestant church? There are no perfect Protestants. Only Jesus is perfect and he is the example to follow not men. Just how long have you been a Catholic? I can assure you that I hear the same complaints from Catholics about their fellow Catholics and hypocrisy.

Who are the charismatics you are talking about?

I will follow the forum rules. Not an issue at all.
I am looking forward to this. It takes a person mocking me to get the juices flowing and to awaken me from my rather short cursory answers.

Oh please… so you will excuse n-C leadership’s human fralities but not those of Catholics? Different standards which =hypocrisy. Why is that?

The truth is that during my tenure as an AG deacon I confronted both unscriptural and unethical practices which the pastor had no problems with but the Word of God did.

It was that that led me to offer my 10 page letter of resignation. No one need be touting that they have the most holy and righteous leadership as the church is a hospital for sinners, not a hotel for saints.

All of us need to keep in mind the words of Our Lord.
John 8:7 When therefore they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said to them: He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

Oh really? Well someone needs to keep some law and order on this forum. It might as well be me. 😃
I thought that was the job of the moderators. You can always start your own forums although I doubt anyone will show up.

Why? She’s probably well ensconced in one or more of the many anti-Catholic ones already?
