Im dogmatic where the bible is(biblical priciple)and not dogmatic where the bible isnt. If my church tells me I have to wear a dress to church I would say where in the bible does it tell me I have to. If Im not violating biblical principle then that is when I view some rules as unnecessary and man made.
My sister feels that Im borderline sinning because I have a cleaning lady:eek: I always tell her that the Proverbs 31 wife had a maidservant so 😛 . Besides I look at it as I am helping this woman pay her bills and make a living.👍 😃

I 100% agree with your last paragraph.👍
What is your stand on headcoverings?
Paul makes mention of it.

Yeah I agree with you on that. I have a friend who is fundie baptist and is very legalistic. I wouldnt survive in her church. The women have to wear dresses or skirts and I am not that kind of dresser.

I dont think it is just the CC. I see it in many denoms and also in Judaism.

Their is freedom in Christ:D
And honestly, I’ve found that freedom in the RCC. Truly. The “rules” aren’t hard to comply with when you realize the purpose for them is to help you draw closer to Christ. 👍

I chose the second option, but it’s not really acurate. I can swim the Tiber. I ***did ***swim the Tiber. I just have no desire to swim it again.

The only thing I miss about the church is having a community to belong to. It’s probably why I show up on these boards, even thought I get into such draining arguments. Churches give you something to belong to. For awhile, I was so desparate for a community that I started going to A.A. I barely drank at all, but it gave me a sense of belonging. Unfortunately, the only thing worse than not having a place where you do belong, is being in a group where you are only pretending to belong.

So that’s why I swam away, and I won’t be swimming back.

People are not always faithful, but the Church is, and she awaits if you should change your mind again and realize its not our feelings that matter.
Its what Jesus established that does.🙂

Dont be upset that I hold that view, but be happy a member in your family is waiting for you also.

😉

I am not, I am quite happy and secure where I am…I can’t imagine anything more fulfilling than experiencing the Real Presence in our midst each First Day as we gather for worship.

I have walked my own Eamaus Road…and found the One who shared Living Bread and Drink with me.
Publisher, you’re a Quaker?

I’ve read Fox’s autobiography and some of Rufus Jones work.

Publisher is the only Quaker I have ever had any contact with.

🙂

I for one am very happy Publisher is here to share. I have not read any of the writings of Quakers either, but I hope to one day.

Paul makes mention of it.
I do not believe it is necessary but there is a lady in our church that wears one every unday. I believe that falls under the freedom of Christ. I know some hold the view of our hair being our head covering:shrug:

Plus I dont look good in hats:p 😉

Your probably right:) I view many of them personal preferences. Such as, following Lent. If you do it for the right reasons it is a great thing to do. If you are doing it because the church says so then that is wrong and you shouldnt do it.👍

If you are following rules out of obligation then you are are not following Christ. I would think you guys would agree with me. It is all about our motives. God wants us to follow out of love not because we have to but because we want to. I struggle with this sometimes, especially with submission/respect to my husband(huge sin for me):o 😦
I hope you get my point:thumbsup:

P.S. Think about how many people go to church out of sheer obligation and take the Eucharist unworthily—same at my church.
Probably a larger number then any of us want to admit.😦

If people were truly honest with themselves about their faith, I bet you would see alot of empty seats in church.😦

I would enter the RCC tomorow but my whole family are Mormon and I know that it would cause enormous distress if I were to do so.

I do however live in the light of the faith of others within the RCC and know that if it is God’s will a way will be made as it was for the Children of Israel to be lead out of Egypt.

I have just recently read Pope Benedict’s book Jesus of Nazareth which has provided peace during the hours of conflict.

Pray for me a sinner…
I feel for you. I do not think people realize what kind of sacrifice a person makes when they leave Mormonism. If you ever make that choice I pray your family chooses to remain in contact with you. Peace to you.

I am not sure if I answered the question correctly myself. I suppose technically I could have been considered a Catholic since I was christened, but that was the extent of it, a baby has no choice in the matter.

Not considering it – but I remain open to the possibility, however remote, of an angel spiriting me away and plunking me back down in a confessional somewhere 😃

(Because I think that’s about what it’d take!)

The question is not worded in a manner in which I may answer. I have no clue as to what swimming the Tiber river is a reference too, and Hello fellow non-swimmer! lol

I have even had swimming lessons with experts. I have lead in my body I truly believe…which in turn makes me sink like a rock! I believe if I was meant to swim, I would have been born a fish. 😃
Some of the other folks have answered for me…

Swimming the Tiber is a reference to joining the Catholic Church, because the Vatican is thru the Tiber.

I can’t do this because

a) I can’t swim (can’t turn Catholic because I’m atheist)

b) I can’t physically swim (if I got dumped in the Tiber, I’d just plain drown!) 😃

So you dont take Paul’s words to be literal?

Can you support this with the bible?

Where did Paul in your view mean it to
  1. not be necessary
  2. waste his time mentioning it if it fell under the “freedom of Christ”
also- can you explain what you mean by the “freedom of Christ”

Why would Paul say such things? What DID he mean?

Anything is possible.

Even if the angel did not put you in a confessional, I am sure that a conversation with one would be a very large event.

Maybe even more possible than improbable in your case.

You have not ruled out anything but the lack of the divine’s prescence in a tangible way.

Nothing wrong with that.

Have you held a baby lately?

Everytime I do, I get an overwhelming feeling of the divine.

I know its not everyone’s reaction- in fact- the last time I asked that I was told yes, and they (screamed, pooped, ect.)

I just feel closest to God when I see or touch a baby.

Way too much for me to answer at once:eek:

Could you give the verse you are talking about I forget where it is:confused: I need to read in context and get back to you.👍

I LOVE you bible only Christians!😃

I am very curious how you can state one thing in your posts and do the opposite in practice, and then claim you just did not know.

I will let you try to find it first. Your faith is bible only after all.

I will be back in five minutes with the scripture.

Hope you will be around.

Yeah, but without a direct ‘you go get in there’ I’m not convinced any one religion is correct – there is no want of angels in other faiths.

Not even that; the only thing I rule out is that it is possible to rationally know whether or not there is a God or gods.

It’s been a while. I think I know what you’re talking about, though, and for me it’s not so much a feeling of the divine as a feeling of wonder at both nature and humanity. I’m more a sit-outside-just-before-a-thunderstorm or city-interstate-at-2am kind of person though 🙂

Arent we great!!!😛 😉 I am no bible scholar and am not good at memorizing verses. I guess I am failing in the that area of my faith:o Thanks by the way:thumbsup:

1Co 11:6 For if a woman is not veiled, let her also be shorn. But if it is shameful for a woman to be shorn, or to be shaved, let her be veiled

I like the quiet before the storm. Never thought of it this way before though.

Always liked the thought of looking at the sky for the lightning as a kid being told to come inside. I would just linger and look for it.

🙂

Me too. I have stood on the edge of the cliff above the Atlantic at 3am as the thunder rolled, the phosphorus glowing underneath and dancing like fireflies, and watched as the lightening dipped down into the ocean to touch it.

Babies? Eating, sleeping, crying, pooping machines. LOL
