I just picked up from the news that Wal Street donated 5 million to Obama campaign and 12 million to Romney Campaign. I hope this is a good sign.
Why pick on BC, Abortions, and sterilizations to be free? Why not antibiotics? Why not chemotherapy? Surely those are more life-saving than abortion? So you are OK with the Government mandating to a company that they must provide a product for free. That is not OK. Also NOTHING is ever free. The Insurance companies will still charge the religoius institutions it will justt be included in overhead rather than as a line item. This is not a comprimise it’s an even bigger power grab.
This is not about equal coverage or equality of anything, it’s about the government getting to dictate to private companies how and at what price they can offer their product, or ttelling religious institutions which parts of their faith they can and cannot adhere too. Do not for one minute believe this is only about birth control. Also NOWHERE in the constitution does it list free Birth Control as a right.
That’s my question too. I can’t even begin to speculate why.I do find it interesting that BC and abortions are free, WHY those specifically?
Excellent question. Why not chemotherapy? Why not cancer surgeries? Why can’t they be free?I do find it interesting that BC and abortions are free, WHY those specifically?
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
In response to President Obama’s announcement Friday concerning an “accommodation” to a previous mandate that health plans must cover all forms of birth control (even those that can kill the unborn), The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) remains deeply concerned. We strongly object to the use of drugs and procedures that are used to take the lives of unborn children, who are persons in the sight of God from the time of conception. Drugs such as “Plan B” and “Ella,” which are still included in the mandate, can work post-conception to cause the death of the developing child, so don’t be fooled by statements to the contrary.
We see President Obama’s action Friday as significant, in that it appears to have been prompted by the many voices united in concern over an infringement of our religious liberties. But the “accommodation” did not expand the exemption for religious employers, nor did it restrict the mandate in any way. It simply described a temporary enforcement delay and a possible future change—a change that, unfortunately, would not adequately protect religious freedom or unborn lives.
We remain opposed to this mandate because it runs counter to the biblical truth of the sanctity of human life. We are committed to working to ensure that we remain free to practice the teachings of our faith, that our religious rights are not violated, and that our rights of conscience are retained. Freedom of religion extends beyond the practice of our faith in houses of worship. We must be free to put our faith into action in the public square, and, in response to Christ’s call, demonstrate His mercy through our love and compassion for all people according to the clear mandate of Holy Scripture.
The government has overstepped its bounds. This controversy is not merely about “birth control” and the Catholic Church’s views about it. It’s about mandating that we provide medications which kill life in the womb. And moreover, and perhaps even more ominous, it is about an overzealous government forcing coercive provisions that violate the consciences and rights of its citizens. We can no longer expect a favored position for Christianity in this country. But we can, as citizens of this great nation, fight for constitutional sanity against secularizing forces. As we have vividly experienced in discriminatory state legislation with respect to homosexual adoption, we, and our institutions (and those of other religious citizens of good will), are being robbed of the right to the free exercise of religion absent government intrusion or threat. The next assault will come upon church-related retirement facilities. How much longer will it be legal in this country to believe and act according to the dictates of biblical and creedal Christianity?
Jesus bids us, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s” (Mark 12:17). We will pray for and support our government where we can, but our consciences and lives belong to God.
In His peace,
Pastor Matthew C. Harrison
President, The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod
This, a thousand times this. That the government would focus on this, of all things, in the face of people dying of cancer and infections and who knows what else, just goes to show the actual value they put on life. That would be “none.”Why pick on BC, Abortions, and sterilizations to be free? Why not antibiotics? Why not chemotherapy? Surely those are more life-saving than abortion?
My whole generation fought to keep pregnancy and childbirth from being treated as a disease to be managed by doctors and hospitals. I refused prenatal testing. I refused all the needles, belts, and medications at delivery. I wanted to keep things as natural as possible.
Are prenatal visits going to be free? Ultrasounds? Heart monitors?
I too have a heart condition (i’m a woman), and have never had a problem paying a copay, for my drugs. Someone had to actually develop that drug and bring it through all the regulations and red tape to get it into pharmacies. I would rather pay for my drug, which pays for the development of my drug and others, than not have those people working on new drugs to treat and cure other illnesses.I take medicine for a heart problem. It was a birth defect. And, of course, I pay in part for my medicine. Never had a problem with that. But now I would like to know why I have to pay for medicine that keeps me alive while women get medicine to keep from being pregnant for free? Being pregnant is not a birth defect and is preventable through proper actions. Am I being discriminated against because I’m a man?
You think it’s an agenda to reduce the population? We’ll be in big trouble if the population decreases. This, a thousand times this. That the government would focus on this, of all things, in the face of people dying of cancer and infections and who knows what else,** just goes to show the actual value they put on life. That would be “none.”**
There actually is a completely FREE form of Birth control, it’s called DON"T HAVE SEX.
As I read this I teared up. Jesuys prayed "Father, may they all be one…"There are still some things that divide us, and as a Christian that breaks my heart. But everytime we stand together I think we come just a little closer to the day when we all will be reunited as He prayed we would.I can not understand the ways of God. But maybe in this conflict we are recieving a “blessing in disguise”.I am not Catholic. I am Lutheran MS. I do not have any moral issue with barrier birth control, though I do major issues with anything that harms an already conceived child. Despite the fact that I do not completely share the Catholic Church’s beliefs, I do believe that they have a right to those beliefs, and that right is and should be protected by the 1st Ammendment.
That being said the recent HHS ruling is WRONG, on every level, and it is a direct and clear violation to the US constitution.
I am so glad that the Catholic Clergy and leadership of America are not taking this assault to their Religion lightly. Thank you for standing up, and know that many of your non Catholic brothers and sisters are standing with you. I have already spoken and written to my elected officals and I will continue to do so until this mandate is removed.
I call on everyone who regularly visits this page and is not Catholic to stand with their Catholic brothers and sisters and fight this assault on our freedom.

Our church leaders understand the need to work towards unity, may be this is an opportunity for us in the pews to gain understanding why it is important and maybe do just a little more to work towards the day we are all one again in Christ Jesus.

There is NO such thing as sex with no consequences.PERIOD. The consequences can be good or bad, but there is always a consequence.
But that would conflict with free sex with no consequences! :crying:
This is so true.Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox, Universalist- we all believe in one God, his Son the Saviour, and the power of the Holy Spirit, as the Holy Trinity. We are brothers and sisters in this and should stand together against the evils of temptation and guide others to join us. Our duty is not to proclaim arrogant superiority over one another- it is to join hands and walk together to God’s divine side. We are all children, we are all weak and we are all striving to become better. Together we make up one in seven people on the globe- we are an international family, and though we have our differences, we must remember through Christ we are united with each other and God. Hence we should stand together when one denomination is threatened, for if we do not aid our brothers, who will come to help us when we need it?
