You’re on your own now, I don’t anything about his homosexuality, it sounds serious from the way you put it…

And, this is the whole problem they everyone finds with Paul, he only believes what he hears. I guess you are right, he was full of hearsay.
You are going overboard the other way. To say that Paul did not attend an orgy to do his own “research” into deviant sexual behavior does not mean he gleaned his knowledge from “hearsay”. As a matter of fact, the verses you cited in Romans are considered to be the inspired, inerrant revelation of God. If you call it “hearsay”, then I guess it is no wonder you are on this thread!

Well, the phrase “Thus sayeth the Lord” is conspicuously absent from the whole of the new testament…

1Cr 14:37 If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord

Gal 1:11 Now I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel preached by me is not of human origin.
12 For I did not receive it from a human being, nor was I taught it, but** it came through a revelation of Jesus Christ.**

Paul’s authority is supported by more than his own testimony. Peter also claims Paul’s writings are inspired of God.

2 Peter 3:16 as also in all (Paul’s) letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.

The Apostles most certainly did claim they spoke for God, just as assuredly as the prophets of the OT.

It was always Paul himself that made the threats, of destruction curses and what not. If you consider everything that Paul came up with, you will find that find that he is all over the map. He was a very intellegent person, because when push comes to shove everyone supports he religion that he created…

" …what are the doubts you have about your religion? "

I doubt that it teaches error.

Are you Russian Orthodox?
I am a member of the OCA, which is of the Russian tradition of Orthodoxy. My church started as a mission from Russia and is in communion with the Moscow patriarchate, although not governed by it.

So yes, I think Russian Orthodox is correct, although I don’t usually refer to it that way (mine is a North American church) it helps others get some kind of idea of where I fit in the grand scheme. 🙂

Peace, and all good things,
Michael

Pax et Bonum,

Chicago? Aren’t they the ones with the cement training flippers?

😃

I doubt many in my religious tradition appreciate my sense of humour

NONE.

What are doubts about your religion?
You seem to be a unique individual - i think even Jesus had doubts when he was agonizing in the Gardens of Gethzeminie (sp?) and certainly most people i have spoken to whether Catholic or non Catholic seem to have some doubts. I posted earlier what my doubts are.

The thing about using Jesus in this example is that it only works for us, your fellow believers in a single God. Some ask are you sure that your denomination is doing it His way, only one way can be right. And it is right for all cultures, social classes etc.

The poster you awnsered has Hindu in his biographical information. If he believes in multiple gods can there be a “one true way”, where all others are wrong to varying degrees?

Sometimes I do wonder if there is a God, if faith in Jesus as God and not just a prophet, begotten Son, etc assuming belief in God is necessary. Or is the actions to try to model His behavior and be Christlike the most important factor. In my particular fellowship I a sure many fake having a spritual language because to say you haven’t received such a gift is to say to other humans God preferred someone else over me…

You’re swimming in the East River? The most heavily trafficked, overly contaminated waterway on the eastern seaboard?
The cement training flippers will keep one securely below the hull of most rivercraft.

Anyway, that’s not a real problem in the Chicago River. The biggest danger there is green slime and broken beer bottles.

I really don’t have any “doubts” about Methodism/Anglicanism.
If you’re like most of the high-church Wesleyans I know (a label with which I associate myself, by the way), you don’t have any doubts about it because it’s such a vague label that you can define it to be everything you want it to be, while blaming the actual people for having messed up.
