Human life is a big one. I also think music a ton of our current musical history and styles grew out of the CC.
Please don’t blame the Catholic Church for the noise they call music today. Most of it is straight out of He–.

1…the sanctity of unborn life
2…although I take issue with the confessional, I find that it can have great emotional and psychological benefits.
Your completely over looking the Sanctifying Grace it brings to the soul and thats what heals. Its a Sacrament for the soul and the body benefits. We are both body and soul.

Try 1550 (to have round numbers) instead…
The Roman-Catholic church, with all its characteristics, did not come into existence until after the fall of the Western Roman Empire, where there was no longer an Emperor to be the uniting figurehead.
Read the Writings of the Early Church Fathers, The name Catholic was used in the first century. Written in 101. The name Roman was first used by protestants to slam the Catholic Church.

True, there has been just one Church for a while… but did you know that Ignatius, bishop of Antioch, who died a martyr in 105 or 107, already called the Church “Catholic” in his letters to Christian communities?

Have you forgotten Palestrina, Monteverdi and so many composers of Masses, motets, (Biblical)mysteries, Ave Maria, Magnificat… Plenty of music compositions. Not only from Catholics, of course, but they composed a great number of them! Not to forget more modern compositions by Messiaen, Penderecki, Gorecki and others…

I hadn’t read your post when I wrote mine right after yours… so we both say the same thing, then it’s like confirmed, eh?😃 👍

Memaw, do you think teancum79 had meant to include the “Noise” in his (or is it her?) enumeration? It might be, but it also might not! 😉

I am not sure what he really meant but he did say current, and we all know what most of the current music out there is like. I just didn’t want that to get blamed on the Catholic Church too.

Most Catholics I have talked to in this type of forum over the years have exercised a level of patience with those who misunderstand and misrepresent Catholicism that I find pretty amazing.

As far as basic morals, I think the Catholic church plays a huge role in the world in sticking to its guns as far as what is right and wrong (issues like abortion, homosexuality, family values, wars, moral relativism, etc.).

Ummm . . . it’s over 2000 years.
Must be something wrong with your calculator . . .

I think its very good that people in the Catholic Church do many very good acts of charity and give much needed help to needy people. Also their good work in trying to save lives re abortion is excellent. Indeed I would say that I admire people in many different religions who do good sincere work to help people.

However I must say that while I admire Catholics and people of other religions who are doing good charitable works to help many needy people I’m very concerned that the urgent spiritual need of people is not being dealt with.

.
God clearly tells us in His written word that all people are sinners, separated from God and that the wages of sin is death (eternal separation from God). Now this is very serious need that all people have but the good news is that Christ Jesus alone can forgive ours sins and give us eternal life.
Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned Rom 5:12
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Rom 6:23
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16
I agree.

Perhaps this is why the Catholic Church puts such emphasis in the Sacrament of healing and forgivenes instituted by Jesus Christ which we call ‘Confession’.

You correctly say that only Christ Jesus can forgive sins. No-where in Catholic teaching is this contradicted which your post seems to be suggesting.

‘The spiritual needs of people’ ARE being most effectively dealt with in the Catholic Church, that is why there is such emphasis on Catholics having a spiritual director to help them on the road to holiness and of course the administration of the Sacraments as instituted by Christ as a prescription to Spiritual good health. 😉

Blessings and peace

I agree with asking for a refund on your calculator. 😛 Have you tried changing the batteries, only I know that some do still run on batteries and like the rest of us, they do wear out.

The biggest and single mark of the Catholic Church is the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. This has been faithfully practiced and the Real Presence believed in since the first century.

As for the suggestion of its founding in 450 AD, how do you account for the Catholic Bishops and martyrs who existed from the first century who also displayed all the marks of the present Catholic Church?

Strange they according to your belief, pre-empted what was to come in 400 years time and started believing and practicing it from the very beginning when there were still Apostles alive. 🙂

Shame on Christ’s Apostles for condoning by allowing this error and not speaking out against it:)

Blessings and peace

Funny that you would mention 1550, because it was in about the year 1550 that the Lutheran ecclesial community was founded.

O.K.! I thnk I now get your point…👍

** It’s moral theology
** It has remained faithful to its moral theology since its inception
** It has remained morally faithful without slipping into wackiness (see Pat Robertson)

Luther broke from the Catholic traditions in the 16th century; The Roman Catholic church surfaced from underground after 400 years of persecution, since the resurrection of Jesus. The Roman Emperor Constantine gave the edict of “Milan” that lifted the persecution of the already Catholic church and its apostolic teachings and traditions, that is believed today by all Roman Catholics, especially the Mass, even some of the ancient prayers are prayed verbatim today. (translated of course in different languages, but the same prayers in the Mass today recorded way before 400 A.D.)

The emperor Constantine was never a Pope, so please dont believe that. The Catholic church has never been without a Pope excercising the authority of Peter since the apostles period. Please check your encyclopedia under “Papacy” and see the list of Popes since St. Peter who Jesus built his Church on…

Peace be with you

So where was Christ’s Church before that??

Did it apostasize?? Then Jesus didn’t keep His promise… that the gates of Hell would not prevail against his Church… (st. Matthew 16:18)

Do you mean when Martin Luther threw a temper tantrum becasue the Church wouldn’t change its teachings to suit him… and thought that he could make a better church than Jesus Christ?

The Apostles didn’t just condone and allow this, they TAUGHT it to the early Church, as was taught to them by Jesus Christ. Someone really needs to study history.
