I was brought up and raised a United Methodist. My parents are dyed-in-the wool Methodists.

I have attended a number of churches in my adulthood. I currently attend an Assembly of God church.

I am not a pure Pentecostal/Charismatic though. I guess I can best describe myself theologically as Wesleyan with a Pentecostal/Charismatic influence. John Wesley is one of my Protestant heros.

Should I ever move, I will give serious thought to returning to the Methodist church of my youth, particularly if the church is theologically conservative like my parent’s church in Florida (the Methodist churches in New England are predominantly theologically liberal).

The abuse crisis, as I cited above, was the last straw for me, Thanks for the kind words.
Now that I think about it what a perfect way for Satan to attempt to destroy the Christians…corrupt priests to commit abomonations on children. Look at how many fled the Catholic church over it, and how many lost faith, and respect in men of God? In fact it gave food for the athiests arguments, and attacks against Christianity in general.

Just food for thought.

I was raised in an evangelical church, but at 19 I became “convinced” and joined the Society of Friends. For me, the approach to spirituality and Christian living has answered my deepest needs from worshipping among Friends.

I just consider myself Christian, but I do not attend any church.

Baptized Catholic as an infant, not raised Catholic though, exposed to many religions.

Yes - Satan attacks Catholic priests, because when Catholic priests fall, so do entire parishes, and even Dioceses. 😦

This is why we must continually pray for our priests, and surround them with every kind of protection, and do everything we can to meet their needs, both materially and spiritually.

I belong to the original, undivided, pre-denominational Church founded by Jesus Christ. Why? Because it was founded by Jesus Christ.

I came back here after 3 to 4 years, to see what type of behavior predominates. I posted neutrally; not attacking anyone’s beliefs and not trying to convert or convince anyone of anything. True to form, many “Catholic defenders of the faith” felt the obligation to immediately stomp on me. With a church so rich in spiritual resources, Catholics don’t have to bully anyone; not that some folks here seem to care.

The good news is that a few posters showed compassion, friendship and understanding.

Before you post - remember what you post is witness to your faith, good or bad.
  • How should a “good” Catholic give witness?*
Peace,
John

The abuse crisis?

Well there are cops good and there are cops bad.

There were crooked politicians and good politicians

Do we throw away our political structure because of bad apples?

Do we shut down law enforcement because of cops that abuse their power?

Of course not.

Now I am not one to throw stones honestly but I have not seen the other faiths come foward when these same abuses that have occurred and yes even even Lutheran Ministers. Look at the stats they are in step with the Catholics.

The facts are there are cover ups in every aspect of life.

Do you like Disney World—owned by ABC

Do you like Universal Studios --owned by NBC

Does crime occurr on Disney?

There is a reason why they own the news media and it is for profit and anything that hurts that profit will not be released if they can at all help it.

I am by not saying there have been no abuses but if you read each one of these cases they did not come out with these allegations sometimes 25 to 30 years later when there was a buck to be made. Many times the priests accused were dead and could not even defend themselves.

Will they go after a small denominational church in little town USA? probably not no money.

Criminally most of these cases did not even get their date in a criminal court of law as it was past the statute of limitations.

It did not make sense for the Catholic Church to processed each and every case in a civil court as it was seen from the beginning the not guilty’s were never publized only the guilty were.

How about woman priesthood and blessing gay couples? Is it also a part of the ancient tradition?
I think you misunderstand. I am not speaking of the Episcopal church, I am speaking of the Anglican church as in the Church of Uganda. We do have women clergy but no same sex unions or anything of the sort. We also do not have sexual abuse issues against children that I know of.

nope, sorry. I didn’t and won’t say yet. That would be like asking you to say yet.

I am a Baptist. Generations of Baptists are in my family, inclulding my Papa, who was a church planter in east Texas.

Very true. I have seen many kind Catholics on here who say welcome, but I have seen many Catholics who spew vile words and condescending attitudes. It’s really hurtful, even when it’s not directed at me specifically. A lady came on here recently asking about the cost of an annulment, as she had felt that it was expensive. She was called a rediculous, whining, cheating sinner! Those Catholics were more spiteful than loving. Christ’s love and mercy were nowhere to be found in those posts, and the thread is here.

But I guess that is typical of life. You get some loving people and some hating people. The haters just hid behind a loving fascade when it’s convenient for them. Thanks for the good (name removed by moderator)ut, John. Maybe you’ve opened some eyes on here.

Thanks for posting the link. I must compliment you on your forthrightness. Most people making claims like that refuse to give a link. As to the posts, some certainly weren’t as charitable as they should be. On the other hand if my children complained about a deal like that I might be a little impatient with them also. After all the court and filing fees cost far more than she is being charged so she is getting the service below cost. Still I don’t see any hatred

If you want to see hatred, go to the CARM forum, sign up and pretend to be a Catholic and post some material defending the Catholic Faith. But first you’d better put on your asbestos suit because your will discover what hateful speech is like.

Your servant in Christ.

hmmm, Don’t be fooled you don’t have to fake being Catholic to be treated hatefully there.

I am an Anglican because the Reformation in England kept what was necessary in ancient Tradition from the Early Church but discarded what had become abuses and/or unrecognizable from Scripture.
Peace and all-good!

Anglicanism was born when the Successor of Saint Peter in Rome dis-approved King Henry VIII’s unlawful married to Anne Boleyn and divorced his lawful wife, Catherine.

Saint Thomas More and Saint John Fisher died martyrs when they stand tall against the heresy of the king.

The history cannot be re-written. And this is the reason why Blessed John Henry Newman converted to the Roman Catholic Church from Anglicanism. As he said, “to be deep in history is to cease to be protestant.”

Why are you the denomination you are?

I grew up in non-Catholic churches. Right now I am attending a Foursquare church because I’m learning there (being fed). Also, the community is wonderful and I feel like I belong. Not perhaps the best reasons, but oh well.
Hey like someone said being fed is a good reason to stay. Its why I like church when I do go.

was sent to the United Church to Sunday School to learn right from wrong. My parents were married in the United because it was a bit of everything and religion was dividing. What with the troubles and all. So I was left to make up my own mind. That took a while. So glad I met a man who was a Christian and became my husband of 27 yrs, I was able to “find” God. I really didn’t know He was there. I bring that up because I think all of you raised in Christian homes don’t realize that is actually a accurate statement.

Married Nazarene, attended and went to a Baptist for a time. Other than that as I bored people before, my friends, family and I attend each others churches to support each other.

That includes Catholic, Word Faith, independent Charismatic, Pentecostal, Episcopalian, Anglican. When traveling we’ve stopped in a few times with a non dem tent meeting, occasional Baptist Easter Services in a stadium and hope one day to go to the Easter service at Red Rocks in Denver. I could toss in conferences and concerts for good measure.

Ask me which ones haven’t had the presence of God.

😉

oh I know. It was the marriage with a Justice of the Peace. It was a atheist wedding. All the pomp and show. But they never invited the Lord to it. That was a hollow feeling and one of the bigger moments in my life, that showed me the reality of God. To witness His absence.

Strictly opinion. there was more to the Reformation in England than Henry’s divorce, much more. Cranmer, Lattimore and many others died for their beliefs at the hands of Rome and bloody Mary.
