Good grief, former Catholic and [edited] have by themselves made a few assumptions and indeed read too much into everything and got all worked up about something.
Before I start - remember that former Catholic is a former Catholic. He is here as a former Catholic. So agreeing with his/her views… doesn’t really say much. Also remember, or, realise, he has a vendetta against me because I showed him/her up in another thread when he/she claimed humans can turn into angels when dead. I would wonder what he is here to do - what his intentions are besides to stir things up with rhetoric and incitement. I have never seen so many lap up such drivel in my life.
As expected, perhaps, former Catholic focused more on a simple tautology than what the actual thread is about. When I say Catholic Convent schoolgirls, this doesn’t mean they are currently in school. They are now at university. With me. Friends. Of mine.
So much for your own Catholic ability to not presume, or let defend. You immediately went at it, like flies to honey, as if to discredit me.
And just so you understand the way it works and I didn’t merely misspeak:
If I say “I’m a Church boy!” it doesn’t mean I am currently in Church. If I say “I’m a private school guy” it doesn’t mean I am currently in school. Likewise for my friends. Although, I admit I probably phrased it poorly - however, doubtless you would have still said something, eh, former Catholic?
Betsy and another:
You predicted I was going to say that, well done. And its one hundred percent the truth. Can I just point out that either former Catholic is getting to you, with his unbelievable assumptions and drawing out some strange conclusions from my posts, or you haven’t really thought at all.
If my pointing out to a friend that in order to recieve communion they need to confess mortal sins forces them to leave the Catholic Church (as former Catholic points at as a probably possibility - I question this but lets continue) then they were never in communion with it. Why?
Well, why did they leave? The only possibility is that they left because I pointed out a teaching to them, and they didn’t like that teaching and so left. They were receiving communion not knowing a rule, and then rejecting the rule once they knew it, so they were there under false assumptions. They were never in communion with the Catholic Church in the first place! Aside from that, I think it is an absolutely ridiculous thing to say that someone is going to leave the Church on account of me saying what a certain rule is.
For a minute there, CAnnEliz got a hold of her emotions and logic and straight thinking and said I am not menacing. You seem to read my posts, and then build a picture in your heads and in anger and frustration you type out your disgusted and angered replies.
Why such a response? I was thinking earlier, why does this elicit such response, what is it about this topic that makes people angry? That leads them to jump to conclusions, attack from every angle, missread posts, let a former Catholic lead the attack.
If someone came up to you and said, “by the way water is H20”. Would you charge and scream and have a fit and say “How dare you make a judgement call about my knowledge of Chemistry you poor, pathetic human being!”. Doubtless, none of you would (at least, I try believe that). And yet, if hypothetically someone said, “by the way, if you are in a state of mortal sin, you can’t recieve the Eucharist until you have confessed” you take offense. You declare it a judgement on your soul. It makes me wonder what you are hiding, what about it makes that statement so ugly to you? And yet, if a Priest said it to you, even if he wasn’t your confessor, you would humbly accept and thank him for that information (even if you already knew the rule). Something about a lay person telling you the rule makes you disgusted. Which I believe, is in itself, disgusting. You judge your soul too pure, your ears too good, to hear the rule. Or you judge me too much a sinner, too unholy, to teach you - oh You, the great Saint of our time, how could it ever be that I tried to inform you.
I feel I keep getting trapped into the same argument and keep trying to escape but you don’t actually read what I say. Everything else in these posts, these diatribes, these polemics has and can be answered by looking at my previous posts. You are staring at the answer to your questions and completely missing the point.
There seems to be a whole lot of judging, presumption, lack of charity, for a group of posters who use these very things to throw at me as accusations.
Interestingly enough, I was listening to an old Catholic Answers podcast last night. In it Jimmy Akin was telling listeners about some lawsuit (niether here nor there). And basically, Karl Keating, in a newsletter, listed 5 reasons why John Kerry couldn’t recieve communion (which amounted to something else, relevent to the lawsuit, irrelevant here).
So dear posters, you should also take these points up, these posts, with Karl Keating. Good luck.
p.s. I am not sure whether to be offended or not that I sound like an old man. I am currently writing exams, so maybe my “style” is a bit more academically tinged the usual.
