I thought Target was about middle class families, that sort of thing, rural areas. Why do you suppose this policy would not upset them? I think it makes much more sense that it would, just going by demographics. And I do think a million signatures is a statement, whether it is Target, Alaska Airlines or whatever. It’s anger, legitimate anger.
Maybe they figure that most people don’t go to the bathroom when they go shopping and hence, won’t care who’s in the bathroom.

Maybe they don’t want people who exhibit anger, legitimate anger over something so silly to be in their stores and would rather they go to WalMart.

The Church would call on them to be celibate, so the result would be the same.
It is good that you are interested in what the Catholic Church teaches.

The Church calls every person to chastity, in respect to their various states in life.
Chastity may involve abstinence, or continence, again depending on the state of life.
Celibacy is a specific term referring to the consecrated state of life.

Crossbones:

And if pigs had wings, they would surely fly.
The poster’s point is:
the union of a man and woman is uniquely necessary for human existence. It is not optional, it is uniquely necessary. For your human being to be celibate, he first has to be alive. Am I right on that?
And it is really really good that human beings are alive. Would you agree with that?
I pressed this question to another poster on another thread, and he ended up with the dead end that
he didn’t believe it is good for human beings to be alive.
This is the last thing left to disagree with: it is not good for human beings to be alive.
So when you ask what the harm is in equating man/woman with any other union, all you need do is open your eyes and ears. The above statement is the dead end that this lie leads to. The lie obviously leads to tragic consequences. Just like the lie that blacks are subhuman. Not all lies are a denial. Some propose an untruth as an “add-on”. But deception is deception.

At this point, can you see that nothing has been said derogatory to homosexual relationships? We are simply pointing out that human beings are created in God’s image, and it is good for us to be.
So the canard of the Catholic Church being anti-gay is B.S.
And the charge that these ideas are the same as racism is an insult to those who work so hard to promote equality and human dignity.

Possibly. But I think it is more likely that a million signatures on this petition worries them a little bit.

That is assuming they have a little more integrity than their buddies at PayPal:
Malaysian law currently provides for whipping and up to a 20-year prison sentence for homosexual acts involving either men or women.

This affects the dressing rooms too.

The problem is that most gay people don’t believe that the policies of the Catholic Church are promoting their equality or human dignity. In fact, they mostly feel that they violates their dignity. That’s kind of a problem.

Last time I was in a dressing room, it was so private that I couldn’t have known the gender of the person in the stall next to me if I wanted to.
Sounds great. Where do you shop? Most of the ones I go to are little shutter doors that only cover about 2/3s of the door - you can look right over them, ask the assistant to get you another size - hand the stuff right over the door. So much for mystery.

Kohls.

What policies? The Church observes the uniqueness of marriage.
How is that a policy against gays?

The Catechism of the Church, which is the official teaching document of the
Church, champions the rights of every human being, and gay people specifically.

Maybe gay people believe the Church is anti gay because people who are not even Catholic distort what the Church explicitly says.

I hope you are not contributing to that cause I know you have the best interests of all people as your chief concern.

I doubt that any gay person feels dignified when the Church uses expressions about them like “intrinsic moral evil” or “intrinsically disordered” or “acts of grave depravity”.

Probably a lot of people who are signing this petition don’t shop at Target. Target probably knows who its shoppers are and that their new bathroom policies won’t have much impact on their bottom line.
One thing is certain. If the boycott damages Target’s bottom line, neither Target, nor the media, will ever report that. So, we’ll never know.

Thec “policies” of the Catholic Church on Homosexuality are the same ones all Christian denominations had for last 2000 years until the very recent past . The problem is the denominations that change their teachings to accommodate the current culture

The same can be said about couples living together outside of marriage, or those who get abortions, or those who do any number of things. Yet, the sad thing is many of those people never get the point that the Church condemns their sins, it does not condemn them as persons.

Literally none of those things describe homosexual people. And speaking as a bisexual male, those statements about actions don’t offend me or make me feel undignified.

I think its safe to say you are in the minority in that opinion.

I’ve been trying to keep up with the media coverage of this issue. WCCO in Minneapolis had some coverage a few days ago because Target is located in Minneapolis. They had things like an interview with a local transgender activist who pointed out that there have been no records of transgendered people involved in sexual crimes related to bathroom use.

That is a straw man argument. The issue of trans using whichever bathroom is less than a year old, so there won’t be any valid research on the issue. Not to mention that voyeurism (peeping tom) is a non-gender specific crime, i.e., it’s illegal for either gender to spy on ANYONE. Police reports are not going to note the gender of the perpetrator, much less whether or not that person is trans, and if trans, what gender do you note?

When doing a Google search on this, I found two things: there are a whole host of mall voyeur videos on YouTube, and earlier this week a patron at a Forever 21 store in Florida caught a man with a camera on his shoe filming her while she was trying on bathing suits. Forever 21 does not have segregated dressing rooms, i.e., you could be sandwiched between two people not of your gender; and they have the kind of dressing rooms where the walls don’t extend to the floor. In the TV news report on the incident, the reporter found that there were dozens of reports of peeping toms using shoe cameras, and that you can buy these shoes off the internet if you don’t want to make your own.

Target is leaving itself open to a huge lawsuit because of this.
