I wonder if people realize that transgender people have been using bathrooms of their own choosing for a long time.

Lovely. Why then did the Charlotte council feel it was necessary to an ordinance that, in a rather authoritarian manner, require it of private property owners, such as businesses?

That is the ironic part of all this. The Charlotte city Council passed a feel-good ordinance and now it is their city that will bear the brunt of the backlash from their legislature overturning this ordinance. The People of Charlotte should keep this in mind the next time their city council comes up for reelection

There was a similar situation in Houston where the city Council passed a similar ordinance which was quickly overturned by a special election demanded by the people of Houston . It was met with the same dire warnings about how their bigotry was going to the destroy their city- a few months later it is largely forgotten.

I watched an interview with Gov McCrory regarding the controversy and the Charlotte ordinance mandated private businesses to have gender-neutral bathrooms and what the Governor did in signing that law was overturn that ordinance so that mandate was not put on private businesses and the bill that was signed by him also mandated, so to speak, government businesses to have a gender specific bathrooms, etc. But another important point is that is not just bathrooms, it’s also locker rooms and showers (not sure where there locations would be) but there are other facilities than just bathrooms included.

You can watch the interview here with Gov McCrory: video.foxnews.com/v/4869249318001/nc-governor-responds-to-bathroom-bill-backlash/?playlist_id=2694949842001#sp=show-clips

Target Stock Drops After Store Announces Controversial ‘Inclusivity’ Policy
The drop may be nothing more than a coincidence, but Target’s stock price has dipped by 5.8 percent since April 19, when the store first announced the “inclusivity” policy.
Shares of Target Corporation Common Stock (TGT) have fallen from $84.14 a share on April 19 to $79.27 a share as of Friday evening, 10 days after the transgender policy was enacted.
The stock price had fallen by 2.52 percent on Friday alone, as of 4 p.m. Ultimately, the drop “would represent a corporate loss of over $2.5 billion,” according to the Family Policy Institute.

So why the laws imposing open public restrooms, locker rooms, dressing rooms, shower areas for everyone?

Because, for progressives, it isn’t enough to say, “Target should be allowed to have gender-neutral restrooms.” They think Target should be** required** to have gender-neutral bathrooms, and they believe it should be by the authoritarian force of law.

Additionally, this is an election year, and North Carolina has a Republican governor and legislature for the first time in decades. When Charlotte failed to pass this same ordinance last year, there were no protests no cancelled concerts because that would not serve the political motivations of the left. When Houston, Tx. overturned that city’s similar ordinance, again, not backlash because, again, there was no political power to be gained by a backlash.

Interesting that when tolerance becomes an absolute value, it becomes intolerance.
“dis-ordered” tolerance

While Charles Porterfield Krauth’s three steps to error and heresy is applied to the Churchh, it can easily be seen is the decline of the American constitutional republic:
“When error is admitted into the Church, it will be found that the stages of its progress are always three. It begins by asking toleration. Its friends say to the majority: You need not be afraid of us; we are few, and weak; only let us alone; we shall not disturb the faith of the others. The Church has her standards of doctrine; of course we shall never interfere with them; we only ask for ourselves to be spared interference with our private opinions. Indulged in this for a time, error goes on to assert equal rights. Truth and error are two balancing forces. The Church shall do nothing which looks like deciding between them; that would be partiality. It is bigotry to assert any superior right for the truth. We are to agree to differ, and any favoring of the truth, because it is truth, is partisanship. What the friends of truth and error hold in common is fundamental. Anything on which they differ is ipso facto non-essential. Anybody who makes account of such a thing is a disturber of the peace of the church. Truth and error are two co-ordinate powers, and the great secret of church-statesmanship is to preserve the balance between them. From this point error soon goes on to its natural end, which is to assert supremacy. Truth started with tolerating; it comes to be merely tolerated, and then only for a time. Error claims a preference for its judgments on all disputed points. It puts men into positions, not as at first in spite of their departure from the Church’s faith, but in consequence of it. Their recommendation is that they repudiate the faith, and position is given them to teach others to repudiate it, and to make them skillful in combating it.”
We are now in stage three, where progressivism is now asserting supremacy, and determined to eliminate dissent.

Those who support it should be careful what they wish for.
The backlash always comes, and when insanity is the standard no one is safe.
Depending on who’s in power, today’s favored minority could be tomorrow’s under-mensch.

This is what we have to stop. I don’t want tit for tat discrimination, abuse of power. I want justice, social order, if the GOP takes power. Not Obama II, God help us. (this is a slippery slope to hope for too - we mustn’t sink to this level) Yes, this bathroom nonsense is authoritarianism, moral corruption - let’s not respond with the same.

Just to be clear I’m not looking for tit for tat in any way.

It will simply be very difficult to advocate for human dignity and rights for anyone when the words are void of meaning, and when people cannot commonly agree what it even means to be human.

The insanity currently employed by gender deniers will not protect them or anyone else if the current orthodoxy evaporates. Lies beget lies.

No, I know that. It is just a temptation for us all. I wasn’t saying that you were doing that, just to clarify.

I do worry about the GOP doing payback, the pen and phone thing. I mean so much of the “progress” has been at the hands of activist judges, Democrat officials refusing to carry out laws, be it gay marriage, deportation (sanctuary cities). That is how they want to now shove the transgender thing through - get transgender persons to SUE because they cannot use a bathroom. Move over Rosa Parks. The struggle for human dignity has moved on. A majority of people in North Carolina want the provisions on the bill, people using their birth gender bathroom - which makes them bigots of course. These people must be overcome…

Sadly, this is so true.

As I’ve said, nothing but bigotry can explain any objection to adult, biological men sharing a public restroom with a pre-teen girl, nothing but bigotry.
I hope your comment was sarcasm, because if it wasn’t, and I had a daughter, I’d either not let her go to a restroom where men were or I’d go with her to ensure it was okay. I’m not implying that all are pedophiles, but there’s been plenty of incidents where men assaulted girls in these circumstances because it was convenient for them, such as public rest areas.

As a mother of two girls, I used to be very nervous when we went into a public restroom. However, I was never afraid that there might be men in the restroom, I was afraid of women that might try to take them. I would make them stand in front of the stall with there feet where I could see them (after they were too old to take in the stall with me).

I suspect that I am not the only person who was nervous about public restrooms. But to be honest, I never thought about the opposite sex, it was the same sex that made me nervous.

I’m pretty sure it was written in the sarcasm font.

Some advice: every large store nowadays wants your (name removed by moderator)ut on how they’re doing. It might be on your register receipt, maybe at the customer service (at Target it’s called “Guest Services”) desk, but there will be a survey. Two things to do, based on my experiences at Target:

  1. *]if you are not greeted by every single employee you encounter and are not asked if you need help or “can I help you find something”, give them a REALLY low score on service. Management (and this goes across store chains) pays attention to such things, because stuff like that really get people to return to the store;
*]in the comments section note how uncomfortable you felt using the restrooms. Use whatever details you want to explain WHY you felt uncomfortable, and that it discourages you from coming to this store again.
*]If you get a follow-up call from the store, be polite and “I’ll consider it” when they ask if you’ll come to the store again.

Eventually, they’ll change, go out of business, or get bought by Hobby Lobby.

  1. This is really good advice. I don’t think a boycott will help as much as actual customers communicating with management / ownership. Work with them, don’t try to destroy them. And just say “I felt uncomfortable using the restroom” “I had my child and was afraid to use the restroom” stuff like that. Don’t sound unhinged or anything. I think it helps if they can relate to what you are saying, even a little bit. Put themselves in your shoes.

So, Target should prevent transgender customers from using the correct bathroom?

What about Target stores in states (19) and cities (225) that include gender identity in their non discrimination laws? What about boycotting all the other stores in those places?

What about transgender employees who are still protected under title VII - including use of bathrooms consistent with their gender identity?

What is the goal of this boycott?
