We didn’t have an N64, but my friends had it. I remember playing Mario Kart on the N64. Good times.

I also remember a game called Kaboom! where the player had to catch bombs being dropped off a wall by a convict looking character (he kind of looked like the Hamburglar). I don’t think it was made by Atari, but was Atari compatible.

Asteroids is another one I remember spending a lot of time playing.

Did anyone play Chex Quest?

Best bit of marketing EVER created. I played that dang-blasted game for hours with my brothers. We lived for Chex Quest 2 and dreamed of the ever Mythic “Chex Quest 3”

And boy did we ever eat Chex. My mom was happy because it wasn’t “sugar cereal” 😜

Age of Mythology and Stronghold 2 were my first real experiences with video games. They still bring back warm memories, even if their graphics aren’t exactly future-proof.

Recently Stronghold 2 got a Steam Release. That makes life a little bit better.

Anyone remember the Ultima series RPG’s? The first computer game I played was Ultima I on the old 8-bit Apple II computer in the early 80’s. Defeated the evil wizard Mondain and was hooked. I purchased a few more games in the series over the following years but was never able to complete them thanks to having to restart from the beginning numerous times due to floppy disk errors that were all too common back then.

check out Black Mirror on Netflix “white Christmas” it has some very cool futuristic Sims like stuff, and very disturbing cruel indeed. It’s like a modern day twilight zone, great stories.

Some young 'uns in this thread. 😜

The first games I really remember were from Atari and our Adam computer. Pitfall and Bump 'n Jump were the big ones back then. Then came the NES with Mario, Mega Man and Castlevania games. SNES with Mario, Donkey King Country, Mario Kart and Zelda. Lots more, but those were the big ones.

Well, there are the at home video games and then the “arcade” video games. I really hate to date myself…so pretend this is not me posting, ok?

For me these were the great predecessors from my past that I first remember playing at the skating rink:

Space Invaders!!! by Taito (first released in 1978)

and then:

Pac-Man!!! by Namco

In my mind, these were the vintage classics…then of course Asteroids must get an honorable mention and others I don’t recall off the top of my head…Galaga, etc.

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

Many of you pups have hardly any clue of the great “arcades” as they are largely extinct now, but that is what home video games were born from.

Ohhh…

There was one.

Literally. Just one, for us older folk at the time. You’re literally forgetting…😉

I forgot, too.

Pong!

Remember Pong?!

A friend of mine received it as a birthday present, and we played it on her TV. It was so novel at the time. 🙂

For those who are too young to not know about Pong or too young to remember, Pong is a video table tennis game that you can play with two players. I think you can best describe it as a Ping Pong video game. 🙂

Hi Jamal,

I’m a little older than you, and I loved going to arcades with my friends, and playing Arcade games.

My favorite video game at the time was Centipede.

My husband had one of the first Atari home systems. We used to play it together when we were going out together. Heh! 😍

He’s a competitive person, so he liked to win against me, with some of the sports games that I didn’t do very well at. LOL!! 😄

Oh, yes, I remember centipede. It was a good one. I played it some. Space Invaders was not as frantic. I had better mastery over the situation so I stuck with that game mainly.

It seemed like boys vastly outnumbered girls at the arcade 4 to 1 anyways. My sister was totally addicted to her little hand held tetris though.

Sega Genesis: Sonic the Hedgehog, NHL '96

3DO: Return Fire, Dragon’s Lair,

N64: Body Harvest, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, Star Wars, Blast Corps, WWF Wrestling, FIFA '98

… and many more going into future generation systems.

Fun at the time but I look back and realize this is time I could have spent learning how to play musical instruments and a whole host of other more rewarding activities. I’ll keep this in mind should I ever have children.

I liked Space Invaders a lot, too. Frogger was a lot of fun, as well.

You’re right in that some of those games moved very fast for those times. They were very popular in the arcade, where I remember that you had to wait for the machine, to play.

I also liked some of the other “old-fashioned” games too, like Skee Ball, and Pinball machine games. I always thought that those were fun to play.

I think that we all could have probably used our time better, when I go back and think about it too.

I did have a lot of fun when I went to the arcade, as it was also a time of socializing with my friends. We would go for just awhile when we went. 🙂

Video games didn’t exist back then, but it probably wouldn’t have mattered…we played baseball. first in the street, and then at the park or behind the school; we swam at the pool in the park a half-mile away; football [same as baseball]…hide-and-seek, board games, and card games were also popular, when the weather was bad, or it was too dark to do anything else…
