Why thanks, Brother Jr.! I meant to say that the first, second, and third person of the one Godhead, not that there are three Godheads!

In our Seattle parish, we’re not allowed to use He or Him as a pronoun for God. Of course, “it” sounds stupid.

Anybody encounter this?
Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. (Luke 23:34)

Father, into your hands I commit my spirit (Luke 23:46)

Our Father, who art in Heaven…

Whoever said you can’t call God ‘Him’ or ‘He’ should be told where to go and how fast.

Do you go to Mass on Sundays? In the new Mass, you should be reciting the following as part of the Nicene creed:

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
Who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son He is worshipped and glorified.
He has spoken through the prophets.

Unfortunately, what you learned from your nuns is incorrect and not what the Church teaches. You are not too old to learn our faith more fully! You already understand that we worship the Most Holy Trinity, and that our God is one God, not three Gods.

We refer to one Godhead, not three, since “whenever Holy Scripture uses the term, it makes mention of the Godhead in the singular; as—‘In Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead’ [Colossians 2:9] ; and, elsewhere—‘The invisible things of Him from the foundation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead’ [Romans 1:20] .” (St. Gregory of Nyssa, On the Holy Trinity)
In the Gospel of Hebrews, Jesus is made to say “Now my Mother, the Holy Spirit (Holy Ghost) took me”…and as far as the mark of Oriental and Eastern Orthodoxy foundations…Moses as a contributor to the Bible was an Eqyptian High Priest raised and taught, INITIATED in their religion of Brahmanism, which originated in Hindu India.

You will find the first Trinity here…they call this the Trimurti. The Semitic survivors with Moses were taught by Moses. It stands to reason Moses passed his knowledge of the Trimurti history as Religion to the first Semitic races. Regarding King Abraham and his great friend and teacher King Hiram of India…he also is found in ancient liturature to have taught the Brahmanism Religion and all its Magic to King Abraham…in reading about Abraham he is said to have been great in Magic powers…round and round we can go …Trinities abound as Triad, Trinity, Trimurti…God as 3…in Brahmanism, Buddism, the Kabala, Oriental Gnostic Gospels, the Chaldean Oracles…some Catholics and even Christians, throughout history have claimed first knowledge of the Trinity first…but…how can this be…when Hindu Brahmanism is multi-thousands of years older than both the Old and New Testaments? Jesus said to “Prove all things”, and ancient history is not hard to find and prove.

As far as I know the Gospel of the Hebrews is not in sacred scripture. If I am not mistaken, it was the Gospel of the group named the Ebionites who were declared to be heretical in part due to their insistence that in order to be Christian one must be Jewish.

So I would not put a whole lot of stock in what is written there apart from that which also appears in Matthew.

Of course there is some speculation that because this Gospel was apparently written in Hebrew the word used for spirit would be a feminine word because that word is feminine in Hebrew unlike the Greek and Latin words for it.

There were many trinities in the ancient world. That in no way is probative that they were in fact valid.

Mariahloves,

I have been reading many of your posts, and you remind me a lot of myself when I was your age.😉 I admire your thirst for knowledge and for having the courage to take this journey of faith.👍
I am concerned that you seem to be looking for "black & white" answers to questions which really cannot have them. It has taken me nearly 40 years to understand what I do, and that is not much!😉

Here is some of the best spiritual advice I have ever been given, I offer it to you to help you on your journey:

~Pray often

~Pray as you can, not as you can’t. (IOW there are many different ways to pray, the rosary, lectio divina, Liturgy of the Hours, etc.- find what works for you, it does not matter how you pray, it’s that you pray

~Remember it is not "either/or" it is the ***“both/and”- ***God is bigger than ***“male” vs. “female”, *and we need to stop putting God into our petty little human “boxes”

~Surround yourself with “like-minded people”.

~find a “spiritual director”

~keep learning and asking questions

~be willing to live with the ***“mystery”, ***that is what "faith" is all about:getholy:

~PRAY OFTEN!`:gopray:

Peace be with you on your journey!
I will keep you in my prayers!:gopray2:
Thank you for your advice I’ll try to follow it. I do admit I’m a very black/white person. I’m always in search of a yes or no, quick and to the point answer because I feel like so many people (actually not talking about anyone on this forum so no one thinks that, but in everyday life) dance around issues constantly, beating around the bush like I just asked for their left arm. I tend to prefer to know exactly what people think and why so we can go from there to meaningful debate, dicussion, helping them etc.

And I very much agree that we can’t put God into a limited human made box, we can’t make God in OUR image. I personally do use He and Him when referring to God but I’m under the impression that it’s not an incredibly pressing issue that people need to get mad about (not using He or Him when referring to God)…I find the focus on it confusing.

The bold is mine.

Actually it is a big issue. It’s a Christological issue. Dermott Lane explains it well in one of his writings. The eternal Logos becomes flesh as a male. But he does not cease to be the eternal Logos. Therefore, Jesus is human and divine or what we refer to as God-Man.

If we begin by accepting that the God-Man is not capable of deception then we have to take him at his word when he refers to his Father. He does not refer to his God or his parent. He deliberately uses the term Father and he uses it more than once.

Before his ascension he makes a promise to the Apostles that the Holy Spirit will descend upon them. But he uses the masculine form of the noun. In Latin it translates as Spiritu Sanctus not Sancta.

Does God have genitals? Only Jesus, not the other persons of the Trinity. Does God have gender? The God-Man reveals him to us as a Father and as a male Holy Spirit.

If we say that it is not important or that it is not accurate to refer to God in the masculine, then we are taking something away from the revealed truth that comes from Christ himself. If God is not Christ’s Father, then what is the relationship betweeen them? Is Jesus the Son of two mothers: Mary and God? Is Jesus the son of a human mother and a nuetral being? Do you see the kinds of questions that this raises about Jesus Christ and how it causes a Christological dilemma? It is probably for this very reason that Jesus reveals the Father and the Holy Spirit as gender specific.

The other issue that this raises is can there be a Trinity of persons, if they lack the attributes of persons? Persons have genders. There is a difference between person and human and people. The three words do not mean the same things. People is the collective for human persons. In Latin the word is “gentes”, which is very different from the word for person, “persona” and that word is very different from the word for human, “humanus” The language of the scriptures was very specific, even in Hebrew and Greek.

When they speak of God, they speak of God as person, not as human. Persons have genders. Actually, the word person is feminine in both Greek and Hebrew, even when speaking about a male. But when you describe the person, you describe him or her in gender specific language, because persons can never be neutral or both. They are either/or.

Jesus reveals the first and third persons of the Trinity in the masculine gender. To unravel that, we would have to then unravel the sonship of Jesus.

Does this help?

Never heard such a thing and I went to RCC schools, even through High School…we were all taught and know the history of the Trinity, the 3 Godheads…the first is our Supreme Father God…the second Godhead of the Trinity is the Mother God…and the third Godhead of this Trinity, is the Son, as the Word of God.

Maybe there is some confusion in pronouncing which God is being referenced when you use the word God in prayer? Usually, when praying to God, it is assumed we are praying to The One, The All, The First Godhead as our Supreme Father God…HE
Which school did you go to? How can you talk about the three Godheads as father , mother and son? Where did this rubbish come from?

It was and always will be God the Father (the first person of the Blessed Trinity), God the Son , Our Lord Jesus Christ (the second person of the Blessed Trinity) and God the Holy Ghost (the third person of the Blessed Trinity). The Blessed Virgin Mary, is not God, but a creature made by God, perfect and immaculate. She is highly blessed for her role in becoming the Mother of God, but is in no way God.

Check what you write before you make an *** of yourself.

First it’s important to note that human language is insufficient to fully EVER explain the nature of God.

God cannot be restricted to any human definition of male or female, because God created them. God does not have genitalia.

Finally when discussing God, I think it is spiritually best to speak of Him as we were taught by Jesus. Jesus, the God-Man, took our crippled language and presented God the best way possible, describing Him as Father.

“Prove” in this sense means to “test”; in other words, to test everything in order to know whether or not it is of God.

And Paul said it, not Jesus–unless you think Jesus wrote the First Epistle to the Thessalonians.

As for the rest of the post, it is a confusing and confused farrago of Aquarian nonsense.

This is called shadowing. We know that there are shadows of Truth found in other parts of the world, other religions and other philosophies. That is why you see shadows of the Trinity among other peoples.

That being said, the Trinity is fully disclosed in the New Testament at the Baptism of Jesus. We are told about the Spirit appearing above him and the voice that calls Jesus, Son. Then it is revealed again when Jesus commissions the Apostles to baptize in the “Name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.” He uses the singular “name” for three persons. This is not found in any other faith or philosophy.

We also see it when we place the Prologue of John and the Book of Genesis side by side. John speaks to us of the pre-existent Logos who was with God, therefore distinguishing him as a separate person. But John goes on to say that the Logos was God, identifying him as one God-head. Genesis tells us that the Spirit hovered and that God creates man “in our IMAGE and LIKENESS.” It speaks about OUR, but one image and one likeness, not images and likenesses.

As to Moses, let us not forget that Moses was raised in Egypt, but was very much a Jew. Therefore, he was montheistic. That rules out the possibility that he would use the imagery and language of Egyptian polytheism.

Therefore, the Christian claim of full disclosure of the Trinity is well founded. No other religion or philosophy has the full understanding of the Trinity that is found in Christianity. As I said, there are shadows among other peoples. But it is not revealed with any clarity to anyone except to the Christians. Even the Jews did not understand the Trinity, because the second person of the Trinity had not been revealed. He had been mentioned in prophecies, but was unknown to the Jews.

If you speak with a Rabbi, he will tell you two things:
  1. Moses was monotheistic. It stands to reason that he would not teach the Egyptian myths to the Jews.
  2. The greatest problem that faithful Jews have with Christianity is the Trinity. The oneness of God was revealed to the Jews long before the birth of Moses. In their understanding the Christian paradigm of a Trinity implies several things which they find problematic: God can be human and that God can be three persons, if he is singular.
There was never any doubt in the mind of the semites that God was one. It is very difficult to prove that they were influenced by Egyptian mythology.

I hope this helps some people.

Okay in reference to Christ being a human male, I think the point is that he could have easily become a female, it’s not like males are so amazing that he was like I really need to become male. And second, I thought when we were in heaven, there is no gender, that we’re like the angels, and so on, so while I know in certain instances like with the Our Father and whatnot we should refer to God as “He/Him/Father” but it’s not as if Jesus currently is totally human in heaven is it? I’m not a religious expert so lol don’t have a “is she serious?” look on your face if I made a weird statement/question

Yes he is in heaven a fully human male. Remember that he rose from the dead and that the Apostles saw a real man. He ate with them. They touched his wounds. He had a physical body and he did not discard it when he ascended into heaven. He ascends into heaven as the God-Man.

Another good example is Mary. She is assumed into heaven body and soul. She had a female body. That body was taken to heaven as it was, fully female. She is in heaven as a human female.

What is the difference? The difference is a glorified body, a body that does not have the weaknesses that the rest of us have. It does not have the needs that the rest of us have. It cannot die. But these are their bodies: Jesus and Mary.

No, the Second Person of the Trinity could not come as a female. He had to come as a male. There is no possible way that he could have redeemed man as a female. Adam sins against God. Adam is the Hebrew word for Adamah, meaning man. But Adamah was male. The Messiah has to be the new Adam. Therefore, he has to be male.

The atonement must be made by man, not by God. It was man who sinned. However, man can never fully atone for his sins. Therefore, God must become a man (male). Why? Because only the perfect man can offer the perfect act of atonement.

Jesus cannot be the new Adam, if he is born as a female. Do you see how this works?

It is not because males are the best thing since sliced bread. It’s just the opposite. It was a male who sinned against God. It has to be a male who offers the act of atonement. But it has to be a perfect male in order to offer the perfect act of atonement.

Angles do not have genders. But saints are not angels. Saints are human. Therefore, saints do not lose their humanity. They are in heaven as males and females. When the final judgment comes, the saints will be reunited with their bodies. We say this in the creed every day at mass. “I believe in the resurrection of the dead and the life everlasting.” The dead will not rise as neutral beings. They will rise as males and females, because that’s what they were and their souls have not lost their gender.

Do these details help a little more?

Okay so only Jesus and the Blessed Virgin have gender in heaven? The rest of us won’t however?
No, the Second Person of the Trinity could not come as a female.
Well with God all things are possible. If God wanted to come as a female I think he’d do it. That’s just my opinion…but I guess that’s how heresy starts 😉

Well I don’t really get that to be honest. Eve means female doesn’t it? Maybe God could’ve become the new Eve. There’s no redeeming quality about men in particular.
The atonement must be made by man, not by God. It was man who sinned. However, man can never fully atone for his sins. Therefore, God must become a man (male). Why? Because only the perfect man can offer the perfect act of atonement.
Yeah but Jesus is fully God and fully man so it wasn’t just the human part that offered the perfect act of atonement. Right? Or wrong?
Jesus cannot be the new Adam, if he is born as a female. Do you see how this works?
Not really. I mean God planned it out that way but he could’ve been like “I’d rather be a female” and then tell the Jews to look out for a female Messiah.
It is not because males are the best thing since sliced bread. It’s just the opposite. It was a male who sinned against God. It has to be a male who offers the act of atonement. But it has to be a perfect male in order to offer the perfect act of atonement.

It helped confuse me! just kidding…but I don’t understand the gender thing. I knew about the new bodies but I assumed that we had genderless bodies…so will we have gender roles in heaven?

Okay so only Jesus and the Blessed Virgin have gender in heaven? The rest of us won’t however?
We will have gender and sex, because we’re not angels. Only angels are created without bodies. Remember how the whole of Christendom says in the Apostles Creed, “We believe in the resurrection of the deac and the life everlasting?” When our bodies are raised from the dead, they are raised as male and female human beings. Also the souls of the dead retain their gender. A soul is not genderless. A soul no longer has a body, but it has all the other qualities of a human being, including gender. For example, the saints are not physically in heaven, but they are in heaven as human males and females. For all we know, they may have already been reunited with their bodies, because heaven is outside of space and time.
Well with God all things are possible. If God wanted to come as a female I think he’d do it. That’s just my opinion…but I guess that’s how heresy starts 😉
While it is true that for God all things are possible, there is one thing that God cannot do. God cannot save man without man’s cooperation.

That being said, it is impossible for God to save man as a human female for two reasons.

First, the Messiah had to be the second Adam. Adam was male. To restore all things back to order, Adam had to atone. Therefore, it was not possible for the Messiah to be born a female, because a female cannot become a male. Hence, a female could not atone for the sin of Adam.

Second, it is impossible for God to choose anything but the greatest good. We know that from all eternity, before the creation and fall of Adam, God planned this. In God’s space and time there are no choices. God does not have a choice between the greatest good and the next best thing. That would be unnatural to him. He can only choose what is the greatest good for humanity. If he chooses to become man as a male, it is because that is the greatest good for humanity. Choosing to come as a female when the greatest good for humanity was to come as a male, takes something away from God’s infinite love for us. It also takes away from Christ. If it were true that the savior could come as a female that would mean that Jesus was just one of two possible choices that the Father had. Jesus is not one of two possible choices, he is the only choice, because he is the greatest good for mankind and the pefect person to offer the sacrifice. In other words, he was unique, There was not other being, male or female, that could be him. He was male because God saw that this was the greatest good for us. As we said, unless Adam makes restitution, there is no salvation. That’s why it is the greatest good. The new Adam secures our salvation.
Well I don’t really get that to be honest. Eve means female doesn’t it? Maybe God could’ve become the new Eve. There’s no redeeming quality about men in particular.
First of all, there is already a new Eve, that is Mary the mother of Jesus. You can’t have two Eves. Mary has to be Eve. Unless she is Eve there is no salvation Just as Adam sinned because of Eve, the new Adam brings salvation because of the New Eve.

Second, no human being has a redeeming quality. This is not about males vs females. This is about justice. God holds Adam responsible for origiinal sin. Therefore, only Adam can atone for that sin. Jesus has to enter the world as an Adam, not as an Eve.

We know that Mary is the New Eve, because that’s how Jesus calls her. There is only one time in scripture where he calls her, Mother. That is at the foot of the cross. Throughout the scriptures Mary is referred to as Woman, which means Eve and also it means Mother of Creation. The prophets refer to her as Woman, Jesus calls her Woman, in the Book of Revelation, John sees a Woman clothed with the sun and the moon undder her feet. What he see is the Mother of Creation. That’s why she is clothed with tthe sun, a crown of stars and the moon at her feet. In Genesis God the Father refers to Mary as Woman. He tells the serpent, “I will put emnity between you and the Woman.” He’s not referring to Eve. Eve has already caved in to the serpant. There has to be a new Eve who will not cave in. But God does not say that this new Eve is going to be the Messiah. He goes on to mention “her seed” referring to Jesus Christ.

Yeah but Jesus is fully God and fully man so it wasn’t just the human part that offered the perfect act of atonement. Right? Or wrong?
In order for man to offer the perfect sacrifice, there must be a perfect man. God in his mercy decides to take on human nature and becomes the God-Man. Jesus is the perfect man. We say that God does this out of mercy, because God has no obligation to atone to himself for the sins of humanity.

That being said, the question is whether or not God dies on the cross. The answer is yes and not. Jesus who is truly God and truly man dies on the cross. Thus the perfect sacrifice is offered and the atonement completed. However, since God is Trinitarian, God does not die on the cross. The second person of the Trinity dies. We say it this way, because we cannot separate the two natures in Chirst. It would be heresy to say that the human nature suffered and the divine did not. On the other hand, we cannot blend the two natures either. The human nature and the divine nature co-exist in the same man and because of the two being together, we have the person of Jesus Christ. Without both natures, he would have been someone else, not Jesus Christ. So, did Jesus truly die on the cross? Yes. Does all of him die? Yes. You can’t split him in half. Did God die? No. You cannot kill God. This is the mysery that we celbrate today, as a matter of fact. It’s the feast of the Incarnation and in other places the Annunciation, the same solemnity. Today, the Church remembers that God broke into human history and became man, a real human male with a real human nature, witouth forfeiting his divine nature.
It helped confuse me! just kidding…but I don’t understand the gender thing. I knew about the new bodies but I assumed that we had genderless bodies…so will we have gender roles in heaven?
Yes, it is reasonable to believe that we will have gender roles in heaven. Though the Church has never made an official pronouncement about it. Many doctors of the Church, theologians and philosophers believe that God not only created man with gender, but he also assigned each gender certain roles. Therefore, Catholic scholars believe that it is reasonable that God will protect what he has created, BUT he will bring it to perfection. This means that we will have male and female bodies and that because we are different, God will preserve the differences. How or what those roles may be, we have no idea.

If Mary is any indication of what is to come for us, we can believe that our roles will be to do the will of God as holy men and holy women. That’s what Mary does. She continues to fulfill the Will of God. She does it as woman. She always appears as a mother. The Book of Revelations protrays her as a mother. Jesus gives her the title, Mother, at the foot of the cross. He gave her a gender specific title and role, to be the mother of humanity. He gave her the title that had once belonged to Eve. Had these roles not been important to God, Jesus would have skipped that. It is also the highest title that any woman can be given, Mother. It’s interesting to watch how Jesus calls her Even through out the Gospels and at the moment before his death he calls her, Mother. This gesture was not lost on the eye-witnesses who reported it to the Evagelists. The only Evangelist that was there was John. Up to that point Jesus has been calling Mary, Woman (Eve). But at the cross, he gives her Eve’s place, Mary becomes the Mother. Only females can be mothers. Mary does not lose her motherhood because she’s in heaven. She continues to be Mother. Therefore, we can safely assume that she continues to have a female role. It is reasonable to assume that here are gender roles in heaven. Only God knows what they are.

And you call yourself Catholic?
I have been Catholic for over 55 years,…and maybe I have expanded and researched to step outside of the Herd, from time to time…you see, in questioning the religion my parents, their parents, their great grand parents, raised us all in…confused me in many respects and those answers which were not forthcoming…I was told to find them for myself, bless the Wives of GOD…I read the Bible, cover to cover and I took to heart Jesus’s (Joshua) Christ’s saying to his flock to “Prove all things”…So, I have become a scholar…and proved to myself that Catholism has changed many times and continues to change…

Back in my great great grandmother’s youth…the Holy Spirit was recited in the Second position, as our Mother God…her Creation in LOVE was then before our Lord, God’s Son.

So there was a time when this too changed.

Daily, I continue learning more and more about where and how our Universal Catholism began, its ancient Councils and Bishops, its beginnings and identical manisfistations to other World religions, etc., and in doing so and reading ancient text outside of what is allowable or not considered sacred Biblical text, I am expanding my knowledge of ancient religious history. There are proofs, daily, that Catholism even now utilizes the ceremonial dress and symbols of Lamaism…which is from Hinduism, Brahmanism and Buddism…shocking but true, see Eqyptian Pharoah art/cravings, and we all know the Pharoahs lived/worshipped/their destinies began long before Catholism…so to, see the Gospel of the Infancy, which regards Jesus’s life while in Eqypt, until his return at approx. age 12…maybe following our Universal religion to its beginning is not something most can or want to do…in reality maybe this could be forbidden for a reason?, but, in this I prayed daily for GOD to help me find this Knowledge to discover it…since then, many, many years ago, GOD has been with me and provided his leadership in this manner. There is a saying that when the student is ready, the Teacher will come…

Thank you for confirming that there were in fact, many Trinities, in ancient history and several religions…the question would be though, were they in existence before Jesus Christ and the Roman Catholic Church? Ancient text proves they were and when Bishop Ireaneus created the sequence as doctrine in the 2nd century, he used Brahmanism as his foundation and basis for the Catholic Trinity. There was also a time when the Holy Spirit (Holy Ghost) was in the 2nd position as these other religion examples declares…the SON was always placed as the Third…Our Supreme Deity Father GOD is HE and the !st…our Mother God was awakened by GOD the Father and together they Created the SON…this is how it has always been proclaimed within these other religions…until the Catholic Church changed that too…

With the advent of the paperback book and now the internet, you’ll find a lot of books and sites catering to any religious outlook. Why? Mania, vanity and because there’s money in it.

The ‘new age’ and religious sections of bookstores are fully of stuff like this e.g. Did Jesus marry Mary Magdalene? They are based on spurious scholarship. The authors pick and choose what they want to believe out of hundreds of years of history and stitch it into a grand fable. The ony problem is, 99.9% of it won’t stand up to professional scrutiny. Gnostic and apocryphal texts are especially useful to such authors.

What people don’t realise is that these texts are like tracts written by Protestants today; not authoritative. But they’re useful for the old occultist trick of equating antiquity with truth.

It’d be like digging up Jehovah Witness tracts 2000 years from now and thinking you’d hit the motherlode.

**You can wind up believing a cocktail of old bunkum which won’t be much use to at the hour of your death. **

I don’t know who trained you, but I’m holding in my hand the Rule of St. Francis, written for us in 1209 and it clearly reffers to God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and none are referred to as Mother. You said that your grandmother was tuaght this way. I don’t know where. But who ever taught her, did it wrong. Your grandmother is not 800 years old. We have documents much older than that that refer to God in the masculine.

As to the vestments of the priests, each rite developed the vestments according to the culture. There is not one single set of vestments in the Catholic Church. What the Romans wear is different from what the Greeks wear, which is different from what the Melchites wear and so forrth. To say that our vestments came specifically from this pagan group does not pan out, because we have many Catholic Churches with many different vestments and rituals.

Finrally, the Trinity as defined by the Catholic Church is far different from the shadows of a trinitarian deity found in pagan cultures. They may have had a shadow, which is possible. God does try to to reveal truth to all men. But the full revelation came only through Jesus Christ. To say that they had it fully developed denies the efficaciosness of Christ’s revelation of the Trinity. We have to be careful not to take from Christ’ s revelation.
