Not Confirmed Mean No Holy Spirit?

I’m being confirmed Nov. 9. I was massively deceived by Satan a few months ago, resulting in tragic consequences. I’d been baptized and prayed to receive the Holy Spirit, but I was a slave to habitual venial sin at the time, though I kept going to Confession and trying to repent.
I wonder how Satan was able to deceive me so successfully. Do I not have the Holy Spirit since I’m not yet Confirmed? Doesn’t celebrating Pentacost or simply asking God for the Spirit fill you with it? Or was I vulnerable to deception because I was in a state of habitual venial sin (my priest said it was venial) though I was powerless to stop at the time?
If it was because I sinned, do I open the door to being deceived every time I slip up and sin again, even the same sin on occasion now that used to be habitual?
How will I be different after confirmation?
Thanks.

You receive the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Baptism. Confirmation is a deepening of that gift.

Having the gift of the Holy Spirit doesn’t mean we will never sin, though. I’ve been baptized and confirmed and I still sin all the time. :o

Confirmation does give us more graces to fight that spiritual battle. It doesn’t mean we will always do a great job of it. But we strive to persevere.

I know from experience that the more I open my heart to prayer and listening to the Lord, the more of His grace I receive in the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist. I am certain it is the same for Confirmation.

The nature of sin and temptation is such that it feeds upon itself. Once we open the door a little bit, that invites the Devil to work more and more. No Christian is free of temptation. Indeed, it is often the case that the more spiritually advanced one becomes, the more brutal and vicious the spiritual attacks become. Confirmation is an essential gift which will strengthen you against these attacks, but of itself it will not make you impervious. The frequent, worthy reception of Penance and Eucharist is also essential. These two sacraments not only remit sins but they preserve us from future sin. We are also called to a robust prayer life. These things will all protect us from lies and deception and sin.

Amen, Amen! And Satan will try and keep you away from all three by making you feel unworthy. We are all unworthy but Christ invites us to his Sacraments of healing and grace anyway. Blessed be His name!

And, Amen, again! 🙂
