The Muslims share belief in the One True God. In that we are joined to them as brethren.

To the degree that Islam separates itself from the truths of Christianity is the degree that they have departed from the Truth.

No Catholic here is proclaiming that Islam = Christianity.
No, but you proclaimed that if you found out after death that the Islamic God is real, you would accept him (say hello?) BECAUSE of the same beliefs the Catholic god shares with the Islamic god.
(but these same beliefs are not the basics however).

What you have proclaimed above is exactly my indictment against Protestants.

I believe the Church is adamant in it’s instruction that we are to fraternally correct, not be swayed to judgment calls.

Bertrand Russel :“And if there were a God, I think it very unlikely that He would have such an uneasy vanity as to be offended by those who doubt His existence”.

God is patient and gives us grace to respond to his call in ways that should work for the individual in question.

Faith is a maturing process which requires the Holy Spirit for it’s initiation. This is why he instills in those blessed the seed of faith who is the Holy Spirit. Some will come kicking and screaming, some hostile and obstinate, some submissive. Some may find themselves on the walkway of Faith, some on the doorstep, the lobby, and even marked for an instant mission like St.Paul.

Is being called " the God of Abraham " enough for giving both of these god’s characters same identity?
There are no “these gods”, there is one God. You should study classical metaphysics, then things will become clear.

Classical metaphysics tells you there is One god? I hope it doesn’t say it’s the Catholic one as well. Or the God as Catholics see him to be!

I find it curious that non-believers often posit that they want a “compelling reason” or “a good argument” for God’s existence. There is no singular argument or reason that could be compelling enough for most people. But taken in their entirety, there are a multitude of “compelling reasons” or “good arguments” that look very, very promising.
Here I think that “compelling reason” in the first sentence is synonymous with “a strong motivator.” For some one that has general disinterest in a topic or proposition then the person probably won’t be looking into the volumes of material that may support.

So now we resort to special pleading in this vindictive ad hominal spiral. My contribution stands on** it’s **own merits inadequate and imperfect as it may be, neither are you required to respond to my posts.
Its.

Point is that you are allowed to denigrate others, and point out to others when they are doing so, but for some reason you do not extend that grace to others on this thread. You reserve that for yourself alone.

I will call you out on that.

Choose one or the other.

Either allow all of us, Catholics and non-believers, to object to someone’s argument.

Or you cannot do the same. 🤷

Right. The same beliefs that we share. 👍

I think pretty much that there is One God and he is creator and merciful and a just judge is as basic as you can get, no?

Its.

And this is very Catholic of you to say. 👍
not be swayed to judgment calls.
You do know that Scripture demands that we make judgement calls, right? We just have to use “right judgement”.

Classical metaphysics tells you there is One god?
Yes.

Your hope is logically justified. The attributes of the God of the philosophers (which goes back to at least Aristotle if not Plato) are found in the Catholic God, but not the other way around.

I say “logically justfied” because the Catholic God contains additional attributes that can be known only by divine revelation (e.g. the Trinity), but not by human reason, and thus also philosophy, alone.

That would be a general thought based on flew words without studying details and doing enough research and evaluation on that manner, no I don’t see a just , ethical and merciful God in Qu’ran, quite the contrary.

What are these additional attributes?
Most religious people I’ve talked to from all denominations claim the same.

Have you read the Koran? From cover to cover? Just curious.

I haven’t. 🤷

But from what I’ve read, Islam proclaims Allah to be all just and all merciful.

What are these additional attributes?
Why do you ask that? You already seem to know that, because you have said, repeatedly, that you reject a god who has these attributes.

That may be true indeed. To some degree.

I did! Those are only the 99 names of God, they don’t explain that much about the Qu’ran, Hadith or History of Islam, that’s why I said a general thought of “Good is good, just and merciful”, are not enough, are these words enough? I don’t think so, when you enter in a detailed study.
Also, this site is from Sufism, which is a more peaceful direction , it’s based on goodness.

Ok.

So you’re saying that the Sunnis don’t believe in One God who is creator and all merciful and all just?

I’m pretty sure that all Muslims, no matter what sect, proclaim that there is One God who is creator and all merciful and all just.

I’m going to look that up right now and I’m betting I won’t have to retract my statement.

Perhaps you could reflect that most of us are not mind readers.

The only alternatives are either that God really did ask Russell those questions or He didn’t. If He didn’t then the god you imagine asking them must be hypothetical. Hypothetcal means imagined.

I was asking a simple question of you. Surely you can see that unless you believe in every god ever, you are doing exactly the same as Russell, he just believed in one fewer gods than you do.

I’m a Christian too, I’m just pointing out that we must respect others’ deeply held beliefs if we want them to respect ours.
Obviously God did not actually ask those questions nor is there any latitude in any of the questions to assume that He had. They were all about a hypothetical situation, not a hypothetical god, and again there was no room in any of the questions to assume they were about a hypothetical god. The questions clearly were about a hypothetical situation in which a real god asks questions because hypothetical gods can’t speak.

For the purpose of this discussion there is no reason to believe in every god. All that matters is that Russell discovers god is true. It doesn’t matter which is true or how many there are as long as the statement, “God is true” is true.

There was no disrespect in any of the questions. They were just questions.
