…we are all God’s children. If he is going to condemn protestants into hell for not being catholic, then I don’t need to go to heaven and be with a God like that.
Where in the world did you come up with this?!?!

Further, after what you posted about going to and “very much enjoying” an AOG protestant church, it sounds as though you’re already leaving Holy Mother Church.
I can’t help but wonder why you posted the original question.

My thoughts exactly, Very strange post, indeed!

It seems to me to be a matter of doctrine. Chrisetree, if you believe in the REAL presence of Christ in the Eucharist, then you are a Catholic. If you believe in the immaculate conception of Mary, the mother of God, who conceived Jesus, our Lord God, through the virgin birth, then you are Catholic. If you really believe in these doctrines, then why would you want to go anywhere else?

And here some non-traditionalists might disagree with me: If you DON’T believe these things, then WHY are you bothering to warm the pews? Because you were raised a Catholic? Because that’s what someone in authority told you to do?

As a Traditionalist, I find much of what you say quite troublesome and symptomatic of modernism. Since when is ENJOYING a religious service somehow equated with truth. I really ENJOYED the movie, “Tangled,” but I don’t worship it. In my experience, some of the most truthful moments in my life have been the most painful. Seems to me that you repeatedly fall for the modern fallacy of feel-good-ism. And that’s the biggest weakness of some of the non-denominational religious groups, they cow-tie to the lowest common denominator and entertainment factor. Their fruits are obvious to all with eyes.

If he is going to condemn protestants into hell for not being catholic, then I don’t need to go to heaven and be with a God like that. And here is an FYI for you…SSPX is classified as a SCHISM church. ie…NOT approved.
If God is not going to “condemn Protestants to Hell for not being Catholic,” then what difference should it make if dad-o-six (or anyone else) goes to Masses celebrated by the SSPX? Is God going to condemn the SSPXers to Hell for “not being Catholic”?
Bottom line …YOU are not in full communion with the church that christ started.
Neither are the Assembles of God congregations in full communion with the Church that Christ started. And if you leave the Catholic Church, you won’t be in full communion with her anymore either!

i am not happy at mass. I dont really know why, exactly. I pretty much feel like I warm a pew. Should I quit?
You are not the only one. After going to several masses at the Anglican Catholic Church, I realized how reverent and how much more traditional it felt to me. I’m actually considering going to the Anglican Catholic mass to recieve communion because I like their service and their style of worship is exactly like the pre-vatican II mass except in the English language (its the english version of the 1962 roman missal) I know as a RC it is not allowed to receive communion there, but there are no Anglican Use parishes in my area. The ACC has seven sacraments and they are very close to the RC, except their priest can get married.

The ACC does NOT have a valid priesthood, so most of their sacraments are NOT valid. In particular they do NOT have a valid Eucharist (communion). To receive it is to make a mockery of the valid Catholic sacrament.

Another very important reason a Catholic is not allowed to receive Communion in other churches is because communion is an expression of unity of belief. This unity does NOT exist in fact, however similar or ‘close’ the ACC may look. There are substantial differences, the most obvious being that the ACC are not in communion with the Pope, successor of St Peter.

Two things here. There is no approved English version of the pre-Vatican II missal (that would be contrary to the 2007 SP.) Second, the Anglicans, unlike the SSPX, have no valid priests so outside Baptism they have no valid sacraments either. It’s immaterial what they call them.

…and I assume receiving communion from a pedophilic priest in the Roman church is valid, huh?

Okay so will I be going to hell for all eternity because I received holy communion at a church that makes me feel more reverent?

That is completely unnecessary. If you think you’ll never run across a pedophile in the Anglican church, you’re sadly mistaken. They are every where. In church and out.

In any event, yes, it would be valid. The sins of the priest do not change the validity of the sacrament.

Whether he’s suspended or pedophilic, the state of the priest’s soul is immaterial to the validity of the Eucharist. Apostolic Succession of his bishop is the issue here.

Also, the sins of the person (in this case the priest) cannot diminish Christ.

Oh my my my. Looks like it doesn’t matter that old heresies have been long disproven. . .people are ready to fall for them if they’re dressed up with the 20th/21st century ‘trapping’. As a Catholic, you should be familar with the heresy of Donatism. . .the idea that a priest must be ‘in a state of grace’ in order for him to be able to confect a sacrament.

If you go to hell for all eternity (and I’m not saying you’re even heading there), it will be because you willingly chose to send yourself there.

Truth is not comfortable sometimes. Truth, for example, says that in a valid marriage, it is ‘until death do us part.’ Not, “until I fall in love with somebody else.” Or, "until I decide otherwise’.

Truth, you see, doesn’t concern itself with whether one ‘feels good’ about it. It doesn’t ‘feel good’ to stick something out when you want something else.

Early Christian martyrs, and thank God for them, were offered all kinds of ‘good things’ if they denied Christ, and were threatened with all kinds of torture if they didn’t.

By the standard of the “but I need to FEEL good” crowd, they were stupid. Surely God would have ‘forgiven’ them, right? Why did they ‘allow’ themselves to be tortured and killed instead of just doing the easy thing and taking the easy way out and thinking God would just ‘accept’ it?

As a Catholic, you either play by Catholic rules (which are good and Godly), and try to be a good Catholic. . .or you play by YOUR (not you personally, Brushed) rules, defy the Catholic teachings in favor of what makes you ‘feel good’, and become a not-very-faithful Catholic.

The kind who says to Christ, “But gee, Lord, I went to the service that made me feel good, and it was about YOU. Wasn’t that good enough? Why would you want me to do something I DIDN"T WANT TO DO, God? And now you want me to be sorry for not following your will? What does it MATTER, God, whether I do YOUR will or not? If I say that this church which I ‘feel better’ about is where I want to be, then it SHOULD be your will and if not, too bad. . .”

The Mass is as close to heaven as you can get and have your body and soul remain attached.

peace

Again, I stand by my posts.

The rhetoric and ignorance and lack of compassion on here reminds me of why I want to quit going the the RC anyway. reeks

Don’t take this the wrong way but you did you really expect sympathy for your OP? Perhaps you think nothing of telling your boss or coworkers you’re thinking of leaving there because it’s so bad but it seems most would just leave and not resort to such expressions of hostility amongst fellow workers or Roman Catholics.

You can parish shop. You might find a church that warms the heart. I moved recently and realized I had to travel 30 miles to go to my old (home church where I am a member) church. After reading the discussions posted here , I realized thats exactly what I will do.

I’m sorry you feel you haven’t been treated with Christian charity. I’m glad you stand by your posts, but I don’t know how you could expect to receive something happy and joyous from a board full of Catholics. Have you talked to anyone at your parish? They know you and can suggest ways to help. Try talking to your parish priest (call the office and make an appointment). He will suggest ways to make you feel more spiritual.

It might be that you are too close to the subject. I don’t see and ignorance or lack of compassion coming from the people have responded to you. Of course rhetoric is being used. Why wouldn’t we be passionate about the Church we love and use strong words to describe that passion?

From your posts, I get the feeling you have already checked out of the Church. In that case, nothing we say is going to make you feel better. All we can do is pray that you are called to continued conversion.
