Not sure how to proceed, NFP or not

One reminder that hasn’t come up in this thread. Please remember that charting, in and of itself is totally neutral. A woman can morally *chart *from the onset of menses until menopause for any reason whatsoever. It requires no just, serious, or grave reason to gather information. I plan to teach my daughter what mucous is from day one. Since I plan to teach her what bleeding means, I most certainly plan to teach her what mucous means too. Please folks, remember in threads like these that charting is neutral. The only things requiring just reason are the *exclusive use of the infertile phase, or total abstinence *!

Another reminder. Those who do not **have **to make exclusive use of the infertile phase are NOT putting things in God’s hand more than those who have to space/avoid. Please, please, please remember not to rub your good health and financial blessings in the face of those of us who have little. Each and every time I engage in the marital act I place my entire life in God’s hands, whether I am fertile or not! Bleeding out, emergency hysterectomies run in my family. Without NFP I would be called to no children.

Finally, to the OP. Chart or don’t, whichever works on that particular day. Moral use of NFP is not just about fertility. It is about each and every time you engage in the marital embrace. Does God want you together today? Does God want you to renew your marital vows? Charting is just information. My parents record how much fuel they put in their cars and how many miles they have driven, at each and every fill-up. They are gathering information on the efficiency of the vehicle. I do it sometimes, or not at all. I chart my fertility very similarly and I have VERY serious reasons to space my children.

ALL marriages are called to a prayerful marital embrace. ALL couples are called to generosity in having children. ALL couples are called to responsible parenthood. My two children are of equal generosity to someone else’s 10 children. Let’s ALL remember these points in discussions like this.

Prayers for you Baby Doll. Congratulations on the new baby!!

Sorry for the double post but I did want to clarify something. Since I absolutely LOVE Gardenswithkids and her *amazing *support for those of us who *have *to chart, I want to clarify that my admonition was not towards you, Gardens. But I think people read your post and read more into it than you intended.

If I may, please let me clarify so that lurkers have a deeper understanding of your meaning. Gardens was saying that they, in particular, did not have just reason to make exclusive use of the infertile phase. And that they, as a couple, were not putting things in God’s hands by charting. They were inadvertently trying to take things out of God’s hands just by having knowledge of fertility. Not charting, for them, allowed them to let God be in charge. She does not mean that all people who chart are taking it out of God’s hands or that people who have to chart have a less holy marriage.

I think that is a very, very important addition to this thread. If charting makes you hesitant to express your love freely, DO NOT CHART. If you “fear” pregnancy then you are struggling. Pregnancy *can *kill me, yet I do not fear it. “Fear” of pregnancy is what brings about a contraceptive mentality. God will provide! Charting is a window into God’s plan. My husband and I found that the time we had to avoid charting was when we were trying to conceive. I started to make it all about the conception and less about “two become one.” A baby is the most perfect expression of ‘two become one,’ but the act is a supernatural act regardless of subjective fertility. Two become one each and every time. Two becoming ONE (a baby) is living, breathing, *proof *of the supernatural.

Our contraceptive society has completely lost sight of these principles.

I appreciate everything you said. Thank you. And the quote above, I’ve never really thought before. Very true.
