Notre Dame Appoints New Law School Dean Who Donated to Pro-Abortion Obama

South Bend, IN – Adding insult to injury, the University of Notre Dame announced today the appointment of a new law school dean who made donations to pro-abortion candidates, including President Barack Obama. The Catholic college is already under intense criticism for inviting Obama to give its commencement speech.

Newton gave Obama’s presidential campaign $2,300 during the first quarter of 2007.

Newton also gave $500 to pro-abortion Catholic presidential candidate John Kerry during the first quarter of 2004 in his race against pro-life President George W. Bush.

Sadly, Notre Dame hasn’t been “Catholic” for quite some time now. Its been a slow fade to secularism over the last few years.

Its very sad!!

Definitely time to officially strip ND of their Catholic Identity.

You know, I just get the feeling that N.D. is purposely rubbing our faces in their scandal. It sures looks like they do care about their position, and they are going to rub all of our Catholic Faces in it.

:(:(😦

Just how could that be done? There is no copyright on the term Catholic. Does the Bishop of that diocese hold title to the building and grounds? I doubt it, and that being the case outside of all alumni cutting of their support where would the pressure come from?

I think it is time for Fr. Jenkins to be removed. He is not putting the Faith FIRST and he is creating SCANDAL.

I was listening to Al Kresta show driving home the other day and as someone was explaining it the local ordinary does hold the legal power to confer a catholic identity on an institution in his diocese. So, if the Bishop in South Bend ever gets a stomach full of Notre Dame he can order them to refrain from using the term in any of their mailings and advertisement. What the Holy Cross Fathers would do then is a matter for lawyers but that was described as the Bishops nuclear option.

For my money I think Jenkins and many of the faculty and board members at Notre Dame have thrown down a gauntlet to the Bishops and to all the conservative i.e. traditional Catholics. I suppose they feel with the election of Obama and so many of the “Catholics” voting democratic they have the push to redefine the North American Catholic Church and have decided they are a better pope then the Pope. Abortion and embryonic stem cell research are no longer game changers in the moral debates but only ancillary to the overall commitment to a socialist future which, they seem to be endorsing.

Jenkins didn’t get to be president of Norte Dame by accident and I do believe he knows exactly what he is doing. My personal supposition is it is nothing less then a challenge to redefine modern Catholic morality. Whatever prestige he thinks it is going to bring his school … perhaps more federal research grants… maybe a seat at the POUS table discussing policy… who knows but there is an agenda that will not allow him to withdraw the invitation. And I believe his calculus has him figuring he is so important that no Bishop or group of Bishops can stop him. And unless the local ordinary is willing to call the cards and actually drop the bomb Jenkins will get away with it; as long as the alumni keep kicking in money. But he needs a winning football team for that to happen.

Is that Canon Law legal power or Civil Law legal power. If it is Canon Law and not Civil, why should N.D., given that they are what your post implies, give a rip?

Okay so this is the Bishop in control of the Diocese where Notre Dame presides??

Has anybody heard anything from this Bishop concerning this Notre Dame scandal?

Is it possible that this Bishop supports this agenda?

The ordinary could put the whole place under interdict. That would be the H-bomb. But I think you are right: Mayor Daley’s arrogant remarks about the incident shows that liberal Catholics think it is time for them to make their move.

Here is the good bishop of Ft.Wayne-South Bend diocese where Notre Dame resides. God bless this faithful bishop.
Thanks for that post.

I guess I don’t understand something. Fr Jenkins is just a priest. Which means some Bishop somewhere has placed him at the head of Notre Dame. Fr. Jenkins cannot be some lone eagle priest. He must have a Bishop he reports too.

Is this Bishop the Ft.Wayne Bishop? If so why doesn’t this bishop just tell Fr. Jenkins to back off, or else be replaced??

He belongs to an order of priests and the head of the order doesn’t know what to think or do. Sounds like he shouldn’t be head of this order of priests if he allows such a thing to happen on his watch. But that’s just my opinion.

http://www.diocesefwsb.org/TODAY/ This is what the diocesan website is reporting:* LifeSiteNews reported March 27 responses from Holy Cross Provincial Father David Tyson, the religious superior of Congregation of Holy Cross, a Rome-based order of priests and brothers who answer directly to the pope, rather than the local prelate. Father Tyson emphasized to LifeSiteNews that Holy Cross does not control the University of Notre Dame governance and policy, and Father Jenkins is “fulfilling his responsibilities” as president of Notre Dame.
