Interesting happenings. The American Life League has called for Notre Dame to be removed from the list of Catholic Educational Institutions if they go ahead with allowing president Obama to attend the ceremonies next month. Pundits say the “litmus test” of abortion is wrong because of all the other issues. I think this is a first amendment issue, as well as a moral issue. A private religious group should be allowed to disagree with any policy, as long as they do so non-violently. And I hope Notre Dame reconsiders their decision.
 
I say go for it.👍 Hurt them in the bank balance. Maybe that will get their attention.
 
I am very sad that Notre Dame is getting so involved with the Obama administration. They could have left it alone and invited any number of faithful Catholics or at least famous people that aren’t pushing anti-Catholic legislation. How about Tony Blair, who just converted to Catholocism. Would that not have been prestigious enough? I do believe this will hurt contributions from Catholics. However, Notre Dame has such fame in the midwest and all over the world that I doubt there will be lasting damage even if it is taken off the Catholic list.

Mr. Blair is turning into another public troublemaker. One does not disagree with Church teaching for personal reasons. All Catholics should first understand what the Church teaches and act in obedience to that teaching. And if Mr. Blair has a problem then he should go to his priest or Bishop and have his questions answered.

As one Bishop said about Notre Dame, this is an act of public disobedience. Notre Dame should not be taken off any lists but it must be engaged by the Church, reminded of its true mission, which is Catholic education, and told to get on with it.

Looks like Blair was catechized the same way all the Obama supporting "Catholic"s were!
 
As I noted in another thread, a large group within the Notre Dame community (myself included) has been organizing prayers and other respectful demonstrations in protest of the administration’s decision.

Please do not give up on the Notre Dame community, we need your prayers and support.

You have my prayers. However, the speakers that go around to some of our most prestigious Universities and bad mouth our country are disgusting in my opinion. I wonder if in Obamas speech he will chastise the Pope for not accepting any of the choices he has floated by him as Ambassador? Maybe he will ask the graduates to change the church and make it more liberal. Perhaps he will just ask them to consider not being arrogant when they go to Europe since we can’t continue to offend the world like we do. I really don’t understand why they would want him to speak in the first place. It is short sighted and offensive, but I will pray for the students, since their own administration is guilty of leading them astray. They will have to answer to God.
 
Is there anything that the USCCB or the Holy See can do? Can they step in and take controll of the college? Or is their only disciplinary option to remove the college’s Catholic endorsement? I am not a “millitant,” catholic however i think the battlelines have to be drawn somewhere…our Lady’s good name seems to be a good place to start.
 
I suggest the school remain Catholic but with a new name:

Our Lady of Sorrows (in French)

Father Hugh Cleary, CSC, is the Superior General of the Congregation of the Holy Cross priests. He recently wrote a letter criticizing President Obama, and affirmed that many of us are scandalized by the decision of Notre Dame to award of him.
