Imagine for a moment if we did this for struggling people… how much better would that be?
We already do this, a lot. A simple Google would find you many places to send your donation, as another poster above has noted.

Just in the last few days we had the collection for the Pontifical Missions at church, which help struggling people all over the world.

We frequently have collections to help “struggling people” on either the local or the global level at every church I attend.

It is odd that you seem to be choosing to ignore all of these efforts.

I would like to tie this in with GodIsGood77’s initial thought of all the money going to rebuild Notre Dame. The angle I’m coming from is Notre Dame a House of God for the French or is it a money making tourist attraction for a non-religious people.
In the initial threads on the fire, I noted that many of the people bemoaning the loss of Notre Dame had probably never said a prayer in the place. I quickly got many upset responses, including one from an atheist who posts here, noting that the building was culturally, architecturally and historically significant regardless of whether one was interested in its religious purpose or practiced religion in it. As I also posted here, many of my friends on social media who normally have no use for religion and are often vocally critical of either the Catholic Church or religion in general were making unhappy posts about Notre Dame burning because they had visited it once on vacation as a tourist attraction.

I think it is pretty clear that a large amount of support for the rebuilding is coming from non-religious motives in that the church is considered an important national historic cultural artifact of France AND Paris’ biggest tourist attraction, completely apart from any religious worship that still takes place there.

People are free to choose what they donate to and if someone does not want to donate to Notre Dame, they are free to skip it. I am quite sure that the vast majority of people I know, Catholic and non-Catholic, including all of those Catholics and non-Catholics and atheists who were sad about the fire, will NOT be contributing to rebuild Notre Dame because they have limited funds, and what they do have, they would rather spend on supporting a charity in USA that has more connection to their home, neighborhood and family (such as the medical charities for whatever ailment their loved ones and friends are suffering from). Or they donated to rebuild the black churches that were burned by the arsonist.

I will continue to donate to what and where I see fit and not discuss it because charity is supposed to be anonymous and it’s no one else’s business what I do with my own money anyway.

I just hope they don’t immortalize the rich donors.

We don’t need the Henessey Spire or the Louis Vuitton doorway!
