Notre Dame - Isn't It Time They Stop Calling Themselves "Catholic"?

Notre Dame keeps showing by its actions the last thing they really are is “Catholic”.

First, it is the President of Notre Dame refusing to cancel the annual showing of the “Vagina Monlogues” play on the campus, then it was dissenting Notre Dame priest Fr. McBrien ourladyswarriors.org/dissent/disspeop.htm helping out Hollywood write the anti-Catholic film “The Da Vinci Code” and now Notre Dame invites radical Pro-Abortion, Pro-Infanticide (voted against IL Infants Protection Act which would protect babies already born from being killed) proponent President Obama to speak at their commencement.

You lost me on how showing the vagina monologues has anything to do with anti-catholicism or whatever. It’s not like it’s a strip show or whatever, it’s a collection of monologues that’s a little (okay, maybe more than a little) on the femenist side.
 
All Catholic Alumni should withdraw contributions and students should boycott graduation–the Truths of Christ are eternal, and this university has steadily given to in to the Culture of Death and secularization to the point it should no longer be called Notre Dame–there will always be a faithful remnant, but the scandal this has and will continue to cause to undereducated Catholics and non-Catholics alike is unforgivable.

Catholic alumni, current students, faculty and staff should demand that Notre Dame restore its catholic identity. It should call upon its board of trustees to replace Father Jenkins (ND president) with a president who will respect Our Lady and her Son our Lord, and who will allow the university to be a light of Christ’s Truth and Justice rather than a Shadow culled by the culture of confusion, relativism, and indifference to Truth.

You may be right, it may be time for Notre Dame to go secular, but there’s no need to change the name.
Our Lady belongs to everyone not just Catholics. That’s why she is OUR Lady and not Our Catholic Lady.
 
They should replace the current President of Notre Dame with Fr. Robert Altier!

He would clean house!

First there is NO problem with true feminism…that which purely reflects the light of God as does the Mother of God.

You see authentic feminism celebrates all feminism which is consistent with the Grace and Dignity of God working within us, as His children made in his image.

However, anything that trivializes that which his made in his image and objectifies that which is from God and for God defiles God himself. All womanhood, points to his perfection as reflected by Our Lady.

Would you have a problem with a program which calls itself Our Lady’s (Notre Dame’s) Vagina Dialogues (God forgive me)? But truly, does it make a single difference as all women were made to reflect that same dignity and purity. Not by our own purpose, but by the One who created us and is manifested in EVERY woman as well as in the Mother of Christ.

Therefore, don’t confuse authentic feminism with radical*** false ***feminism.

I honestly don’t think the President is going to use this occaision to speak about the issues which he and the Church disagree with. I don’t really have a problem with him speaking at Notre Dame, or any Catholic University that would invite him. He is a gifted speaker, and for a lot of people his words carry a great deal of weight. I lived in Connecticut for a short time, and while I was there the Dhali Llama spoke in Central Park, and I was greatful to hear him speak, and I’m not Budhist. Let me ask this, what would make it OK for the President to speak at Notre Dame?

Also, to answer your question all the President has to do is change his current stance which is killing babies in the mothers womb and killing human embryo’s. I don’t think its too much to ask for to protect ALL LIFE especially the MOST INNOCENT and vulnerable!
 
Those who don’t “get” the furor over Obama speaking at Notre Dame betray their own conviction that abortion is just another political issue. For catholics, it is not. It is THE civil rights atrocity of our age. 50 million innocent human being slaughtered since Roe v Wade. Obama SAYS he wants to reduce the number of abortions. But his action betray him. Every single action he has taken on the matter has been to expand the availability and forced taxpayer funding of abortion (and stem cell research, which amounts to the same thing). He even is seeking to remove legal protections for medical personnel who refuse to participate in abortion.

Quite frankly, the man’s hands DRIP with blood.

My idea for a response is exactly that. I think every catholic pending ND graduate SHOULD attend commencement and get as many guest tickets as possible. They should go with a pocket full of ketchup packets. When Obama takes the podium, I would love to see THOUSANDS of catholics with blood (ketchup) smeared on their hands, holding them high for Obama to see throughout his entire speech.

Can you imagine!

Hey, Shannon stop smoking the Kumbaya Pipe. Don’t you get it, that his very presence is a statement in and of itself beyond the fact that the University is also providing him an honorary degree! In direct defiance of US Bishops policy statement, “Catholics in Political Life”: “Catholic institutions should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles. They* should not be given awards, honors *or platforms which would suggest support for their actions.”

And as far as the" his words carry a great deal of weight "comment that is exactly the problem. As opposed to a Budhist leader merely speaking in a neutral site. The man has already made all practicing Catholics PAY for that which is against Church teaching supporting international abortions and embryonic stem cells (the KILLING of human life); not to mention all this occurring within the confines of a Catholic teaching institution…which implicitly provides a contradicting teaching endorsement… all within God’s house of teaching and prayer!

Radical feminism destroys trust, it creates suspicion and it incites anger. The National Organization of Women is not solution oriented. It is not about solving problems but creating them. 1978: “Sisters! Throw off the chains of your oppression!” Gloria Steinem: “A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle.”

This is anti-family, disruptive to the entire fabric of society and creates a false separation between men and women by casting men as the enemy and falsely recasting the role of women in a properly ordered human community. This is against natural law and Biblical law. It stifles true love which, for too many, has been replaced by casual, uncommitted sexual encounters.

Rush Limbaugh is talking about the Notre Dame scandal. He closed his segment with the question - “Will they have to cover touchdown Jesus when Obama comes?” He also reminded us that many Catholic voted for Obama knowing he was pro-death, and we should have known what would be coming.
