If anyone in the South Bend/Greater Michiana area is planning to head up to Notre Dame to protest Obama’s commencement address, please read this website which instructs what the Notre Dame student groups would like from protestors. Many student groups have aligned and have become one force against Obama’s anti-life agenda (called ND Response). Please read this link and the components of this website:

ndresponse.com:80/

These student groups are taking the bull by the horns and being a remarkable force. Please respect their planning for graduation day. I’m sure they would love all the help they can get. So, get up there and help them out. However, I believe that they do not want third party groups on campus or near campus.

I am now positive that good will come from this. I’m not happy with Fr. Jenkins’ decision to invite Obama but when God closes a door he opens a window. I am proud that these students are standing up for life. A lot of good may really come out of this. LET’S BE POSITIVE 😃 Pray for our President and pray that the Notre Dame agenda for LIFE changes his heart.

I’m getting pumped actually.

GO IRISH! :irish3:

I am really impressed by the way these students have organized themselves and are living out their faith.

Incidentally, the majority of the Letters to the Editor in the ND Observer (www.ndsmcobserver.com) regarding this situation are very pro-life and anti-Obama.

I don’t think it’s time to give up on ND quite yet.

Something seems to be off here.

First of all, just a few day ago you, Domer, were praising Obama’s invitation as an opportunity to dialogue and letting us all know that ND is the voice of the Church.

There is nothing in that press release from the student groups telling outside groups to stay away from anywhere near campus. Although I am sure that would suit the administration, and the Obama supporters just fine. Could this be an attempt to diffuse by redirection?

This is first of all, an issue for the ND class of 2009. But that doesn’t mean that is ceases to be a problem for all Catholics who are pro-life and faithful to the Magesterium. Obama’s spokeswoman made it pretty clear today that this was about Catholics, not just ND. Catholics have every right (duty?) to make thier feelings and position known loud and clear. Obama knows the Church’s position. The administration of ND doesn’t seem to be paying attention.

I’m praying very hard for Obama…I pray he will do the right thing and resign…baring that I pray he is a 1 termer

He’s the President. I respect that. I don’t have a problem with him being on campus or being present at the graduation. I believe his title allows him to be there. But, I have a problem with him being honored with an honorary degree.

I like their red letter idea. Very clever. I wonder if Fr. Jenkins will follow through with the delivery if he does not rescind the invitation.

I think if they go on with this someone should preface his speech with a disclaimer…saying what he is doing is against scripture and is a violation of human rights

Its their leadership that the ND students should focus on. Their own president has created this scandal. In their efforts to organize their protest, perhaps they should direct their protests to the university trustees, who are responsible for hiring and firing its president. Perhaps they should demand that their current president be asked to resign immediately, and that the trustees appoint a new university president who is eager to defend and proclaim the faith and its hierarchy of values to the world in all his actions. President Jenkins has failed as a priest and “Catholic” university president to do this when he made the decision to give an honorary law degree to an attorney who as a legislator and U.S. President has demonstrated that he will use the law to force us, through our taxes, to cooperate in the killing of the unborn. Here is something I posted on another related forum:
The University of Notre Dame (“Our Lady”) is named for our heavenly Mother and the Mother of Jesus. No, the university should not let her or her Son Jesus down.
The university should not abandon its Catholic roots – its students, faculty and staff should call upon the leadership of the university to help it return to its roots and proclaim by its every action that God is more important than anything educational, academic or political. Scripture tells us “You shall have no other gods before me” – this is part of the First Commandment. Father Jenkins, UND President, has violated this Commandment by making popularity and worldly values more important than the values Catholics are to proclaim.
The board of trustees needs to be petitioned to replace the university President NOW. All Catholics attending the university need to demand that the school be led by someone who proclaims Catholicism above anything and everything, every day. They should demand that new leadership reflect Catholic values in all actions pertaining to the university, and help the university as a whole to reflect Christ’s truth and justice to the rest of the world. Academia is important, but it is not more important than this. Within the young communities they helped to establish, Christ and the Apostles would not have given honor or a platform to someone who actively rejects Truth as taught by Christ. President Obama not only rejects foundational teachings of the Church, but he actively stomps on them with the policies he has implemented these past two months. Father Jenkins needs to be replaced.
from the Bylaws of the University of Notre Dame:
3. The President shall be the executive head of the University and shall be responsible for the general direction of its affairs…
  1. …Any officer of the University may be removed from office by a vote of at least two-thirds
(2/3) of the Trustees then in office when in their opinion the welfare of the University requires such action…

This is a wonderful link that gives you the names of 11 student groups who are in opposition to having Pres Obama speak at the commencement this year. The comments that both alum and students made also are worth the read.

God bless all who are standing firmly with God’s plan to protect all life.
