What a step up from commencement speaker Obama in 2009. Good decision Notre Dame

I’ll bet you are right. And that Michael Voris is making a complimentary video right now (educated guess). 😉

EDIT: My educated guess was before I saw this. Voris was vexed about the Al Smith Dinner invite to Obama … at which Cardinal Dolan was part of the focus.

Still, a sitting Cardinal who is pro-life being honored is a substantial improvement for ND.

It’s always nice when the University listens to their alum…we all made our displeasure known with our wallets.

The Dome is shining bright once more (maybe not with all the snow they got last night!). Love thee Notre Dame.

And if Cardinal Dolan is busy with ‘other’ duties when commencement rolls around? Are there direct flights from Rome to Indiana?

Isn’t there supposed to be an element of reparation that accompanies an act of sincere contrition? Selling Notre Dame and the Catholic Church down the river, and then going on as if she wasn’t sullied by a political mobster should chafe anyone’s hide.
Anyone with a conscience.
When will Fr Jenkins grow a pair and stand up for the Faith when and where it matters?
When is he going to set things right and restore Notre Dame to it’s rightful place as Queen of North American Catholic Universities?
I agree that Cardinal Dolan is an excellent choice and I hope will inspire students who have spent a great deal of their parent’s money on tuition to attend a school fraudulently calling it’s self “catholic”
Cardinal Dolan is truly a treasure, but all the treasure in the world can’t buy back the soul of the institution that Fr. Jenkins has sold to the devil----Like Bilbo Baggins, Fr. Jenkins must steal that soul back.
Grrrrrr! End of rant.

Finally, maybe they’ll redeem themselves from 2009 and the Clown in Chief

Redemption can only come from Christ. However restoring Notre Dame’s dignity is something Fr. Jenkins can do.
Stripping the POTUS of his honorary doctorate because he works dilligently to crush the Catholic Church would be a good start.
Retiring and letting a faithful priest assume the presidency of Notre Dame would be good too.
Just sayin’

Ok…here come the haters. I was wondering how long it was going to take. When will people learn that the good that ND does for the community and outward (and the steps they have taken to reinforce Catholic identity) FAR OUTWEIGH a mistake that Father Jenkins made by extending an invitation to the POTUS. Nothing I say about ND having a tradition of inviting sitting presidents and being flabbergasted when he accepted will change the minds of many.

I think ND leading the way in suing the US concerning birth control speaks volumes.

Personally, we’d look like idiots if we stripped an “honorary” doctorate–it’s not like Obama prances around with his hood on a regular basis. Please don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

Um, tell me how, since apologizing and re-establishing Catholic identity, has Fr. Jenkins failed to stand for orthodox Catholicism? Are you in any way affiliated with Notre Dame…or do you just buy everything the press says about them?

Would be great to be there and hear what he has to say:thumbsup:

I’m sorry, but Mr. Voris is wound way too tight for me. Sorry, but too many of him would drive me to the brink of insanity…and perhaps the abyss (quick, what movie was that line from)?

If you like, remind me and I will post a transcript. Or if you PM me, I will send you one.
Thanks for sharing, I think that Cardinal Dolan is a perfect choice and I would also like you to post a transcript if possible.

St. Elmo’s Fire! (It wasn’t QUICK but …).

Per Voris, he was an '83 Golden Domer angry about that former incident I won’t name.

And as a famous artist’s spiritual advisor once told him "It’s also not good to be “too loose” Lautrec!: 😉

At the time of “that incident” Dolan’s views on the subject were more similar to Voris’.

I don’t hate Notre Dame (I was educated by the Holy Cross Sisters long ago and was blessed to do postgraduate research at Notre Dame) but I am angry with Fr Jenkins administration. Having his security goons beat up (to the point of requiring hospitalization) an elderly brother priest standing in silent protest as well as not a few faculty (such as the late, great Dr. Ralph McInerny) depart in utter disgust due to Fr. Jenkin’s pig-headedness is a scandal that should have been avoided.
Giving an honorary degree to an avowed enemy of the Church reflects on all degrees granted by Notre Dame to students who have worked hard and tirelessly for them(and thier parents who sacrificed dearly)
The students don’t deserve Fr Jenkins.
Notre Dame dosen’t deserve Fr. Jenkins.
That Notre Dame joined on the lawsuit doesn’t seem to reflect religious integrity as much as it does a way of avoiding the punitive fines which are the fruits of the legislation which Barack Obama muscled through by taking advantage of prestigeous platforms such as that provided by Fr. Jenkins.
Do I believe the Press? I suppose so—nowhere have I read nor heard that Fr. Jenkins has manned up and apologised for the scandal that he created, nor attempt to remedy the damage he’s caused. I’d hope Cardinal Dolan would encourage Fr Jenkins to step down and allow a faithful priest to call the shots in South Bend.

Why should Father Jenkins step down? He is a member of a religious order, and only the pope himself or the superior of his order can demand such.

Well, Father Jenkins only needed to apologize to the students, faculty and alumni, which he did. How do I know? Because I was witness to it at an alumni mass. If people are going to bash on Notre Dame when they do wrong, then I feel the same people should be willing to sing her praises when she does well. I see so incredibly little of that. I guess that’s why the Notre Dame family are so loyal to one another.

Perhaps hate is too strong a word…it should be more like bashing. But the term we use–Embrace the Hate–has a nicer rhyme.

Notre Dame has been a dream for many many students both Catholic and otherwise—it is a well loved institution. That is why scandal is so very horriffic when it occurs—just like in the Church herself—and everyone pays for that scandal.
In the hospital after one of the sexual abuse scandals broke, one of our beloved parish priests was passing a mother and child in the hall—the mother grabbed her child and warned him not to go near that “bad” priest… It was the first time any of us had seen our priest weep!
No, it isn’t a matter of hate, it is a cry for Justice, one of the four Cardinal Virtues, and it is the expectation of seeing some inkling of Fortitude.
I believe you when you say Fr Jenkins apologised to the students at Notre Dame, but the scandal was greater than Notre Dame—it scandalized the whole of the Catholic Church and Catholic education in the nation (as well as every Notre Dame football fan!)

Oh, and that elderly priest who was roughed up by security died

usanewsfirst.com/2012/05/18/priest-arrested-by-obamanotre-dame-dies/

Check out that link, Fr Jenkins could learn something about Fortitude from him.

My youngest daughter graduates from Ohio State in May. She’s a College Republican who worked for the McCain and Romney campaigns in high school and college, respectively. Unfortunately, Obama is her commencement speaker, so she’s not particularly happy. Our joy in seeing her graduate makes it worthwhile! I’m just hoping he keeps his speech non-political.

Because inviting the most evil pro choice man in American to speak at a school that is supposedly the most prominent Catholic school in America is an abomination. It would be like inviting The President of Iran to speak at the Inauguaration. Yes I know I’m extreme but i’m dissapointed in Jenkins. He is from my home state and went to a great Catholic High school in Omaha, but made such a dumb decision. Also, even if it wasn’t to promote abortion it invites scandal. Look at the otherwise amazing Cardinal Dolan. There are some people who probably thought inviting Obama to come to dinner ment he approved of him. Now I have no doubt Cardinal Dolan did not intend this, but it led to scandal. Our leaders need to be firm and stand up against people like Obama. Not welcome them with open arms, at least not without chastising them for their sinul views
