In fairness, I’ve detrailed this thread and I apologise. Cardinal Dolan is an excellent speaker and Notre Dame is blessed to have him.
Fr Jenkins and Obama is another issue and I should not have brought that up here.
Congrats to the Class of 2013 and once more, my sincere apologies.

Notre Dame has been a dream for many many students both Catholic and otherwise—it is a well loved institution. That is why scandal is so very horriffic when it occurs—just like in the Church herself—and everyone pays for that scandal.
In the hospital after one of the sexual abuse scandals broke, one of our beloved parish priests was passing a mother and child in the hall—the mother grabbed her child and warned him not to go near that “bad” priest… It was the first time any of us had seen our priest weep!
No, it isn’t a matter of hate, it is a cry for Justice, one of the four Cardinal Virtues, and it is the expectation of seeing some inkling of Fortitude.
I believe you when you say Fr Jenkins apologised to the students at Notre Dame, but the scandal was greater than Notre Dame—it scandalized the whole of the Catholic Church and Catholic education in the nation (as well as every Notre Dame football fan!)

Oh, and that elderly priest who was roughed up by security died

Check out that link, Fr Jenkins could learn something about Fortitude from him.
How sad, that the elderly Priest passed away:o may he R.I.P.
I had no idea…

Oh, and by the way Michael Voris graduated from Notre Dame.

So, what do you think Pope Dolan (or whatever name he chooses–I like Pope John Paul III), will say at Notre Dame?😃

That is wonderful for ND to welcome Cardinal Dolan for commencemet.

However, the comments posted betray the terrible tension in the US Catholic Church that the next pope must address. Either the worst sin is to receive Holy Communion with a mortal sin on one’s soul, OR it is not following the teaching of Jesus Christ who clearly states the to enter his Kingdom one must feed the poor, tend the sick, visit prisoners, clothe the naked, and all the works of mercy. Either the over 80% of “Catholic” women who use artificial contraception and do not feel it is a sin of any type such that they connot confess it as a sin in Confession, yet they attend Mass regularly, must be told that they must leave the Church, OR they continue to be as Catholic as anyone else. Either Joe Biden and Kathy Sebelius are as Catholic as everyone else in the Holy Church, OR, they need to be told to leave along with many many others. Either it is a horrible sin and an insult to Jesus Christ in the Eucharist and the Holy Roman Church, and the Church should never use their money, OR, it is not that big a deal for prominate “Catholics” to not believe the current morality of the current Church magistarium as long as they believe every word of the Nicean Creed.

Jesus honored tax collectors and prostitutes by sharing meals with them in their homes and blessed a murderer from the cross. Even if someone believes that Obama is misusing our money, perverting our sexual gifts, and enabling the murder of innocent people, why does that preclude him from being welcomed and honored at a Catholic university? Jesus welcomed everyone because they were created by God and honored them in spite of their failings. What a powerful statement! If Jesus has so much respect for people who do so much wrong, if a Catholic institution can show that it loves and respects Obama in spite of what he’s done, then who can say they are excluded from Christian love? I think that Cardinal Dolan will deliver a wonderful message to the students, but I think the statement of Christian love and humility of inviting an “enemy” to a place of honor at a Catholic table is outstanding.

It’s always nice when the University listens to their alum…we all made our displeasure known with our wallets.

The Dome is shining bright once more (maybe not with all the snow they got last night!). Love thee Notre Dame.
Our family had two recent graduates from Notre Dame. Obama was one of the commencement speakers. It was a circus. Cardinal Dolan is a wonderful choice!!
