I read that Fr. Corapi will retire from apostolic preaching in 2007. 😦

I think that Fr. Corapi effectively filled the same role in this generation that Bishop Fulton Sheen filled for a previous generation.

Is there an up-and-coming Catholic preacher in the media with inter/national reach and stature?

Where did you read this. I sure hope that he decides against retirement. We need him.

I think we should bring him a party! PARTAY!!! 😃 A surprise party. Who’s in?

That’s sad. I am sure he has good reasons, but he will be missed.

Fr. Serpa! 😃

Well, the poor man has well and truly earned it if he does choose to retire!

I can’t agree with that statement. Sheen was much more popular at a popular level. His show outrated Milton Berle’s on national television, afterall! Corapi has appealed well primarily to a certain subset of Catholics in a smaller, though still signifigant, manner. Most people have no idea who in the world he is, however.

I’m sure there are plenty. Just maybe not presently promoted through vehicles like EWTN.

I’d have to agree. Sheen was a household name at the time. Corapi is still limited tot eh Catholic world - and probably more the devout Catholic world at that.

I am a huge fan of the dear Fr Corapi, so I pray for him and his next calling.

Fr Corapi is good but his style is confrontational tell it like it is which is a style that basically (not solely) preaches to the choir. Fulton Sheen like another poster stated was approachable to all (though I am sure he had hs detractors as well)

He’s not really retiring as a priest. He’s only leaving public preaching. It was posted on his web site some months back that 2007 would be his last year of traveling around the country and preaching/teaching. But that won’t be the last you hear of him. He’s simply trading the podium for the keyboard. He’s now going to write books.

Is he retiring from apostolic preaching or as a pastor? He pastors a church in northern Montana. I’m sure doing both probably wears him out.

As I noted above he’s not leaving ministry, just globe-trotting public speaking.

He’s not retiring entirely. He’s just not going around the nation on speaking engagements after this year. I read somewhere he wants to focus on writing a book.

I think this brings up another issue. That is relying on only one person. Yes, Fr. Corapi is a great speaker, but he is only one person. We, as Catholics, must develop more than just one person to rely on. This is a chance to develop a more diverse group. I know of one in the Archdiocese of Detroit that could be part of this group. I will not mention his name.

I totally agree! We need to have several, not just 1 or 2.

Hmm…would his name happen to start with W-A-N and end with D-E-R??? 😃 😛

I think Fr. Corapi has already addressed this matter. He is challenging all of us who feel that there is need for new and better leaders. Please check out this site: fathercorapi.com/Jan07Email.html

I saw Father Corapi speak this last weekend in Lake Havasu, Arizona. He confirmed that this is his last year of traveling around the country/world and preaching. He said that he has suffered three severe spinal injuries in the past twelve months that have really hindered his ability to comfortably travel. However, Father did say that he would start writing books from his home in Montana.

Father Corapi also said that he is planning on debuting a new website in the near furture in which people can ask him questions and he will post the answers. Father Corapi said the website will also feature him giving a weekly homily via video.

Father said that with today’s technology it is easier to reach millions (via the internet) than it is to preach to hundreds.

I would encourage everybody to go see him before he begins his second career. You won’t be disappointed.

Things were different back then. There were only three TV networks, not the countless cable/satellite/internet media outlets of today. Also, there would be no way that a priest would be given an hour long prime-time show on network TV to preach today.

The times have certainly changed, but in terms of who today most closely approximates Archbishop Sheen’s role on the national stage, only Fr. Corapi comes close.

So which priest will be the next big voice in Catholic speaking? Hmm. . .:hmmm: that’s a good question. Fr. Donald Calloway, MIC sure has and amazing personal story; and I’ve heard him speak on some good topics, but I think he’s still too young at this point to be the next Fr. Corapi but will probably develop some really powerful talks in the next couple of decades.

Fr. Stan Fortuna? Nah, his ministry will always be geared to a young crowd. . .

If I was a gambling man (which I’m NOT), I think I would put my bets on Fr. Frank Pavone 👍
Whenever I hear him give the homily on EWTN, I feel eneregized for the rest of the day, and I have heard others say the same.
As many of you know, Fr. Frank has just helped established a new order of priests, the MISSIONARIES OF THE GOSPEL OF LIFE, and I’m told there’s a huge rush of vocation applications to this new order.

yep, that’s who I’d bet on

I am a big fan of Fr. Corapi’s preaching. He explains thins simply and clearly and that’s the attraction. Some preachers are very good an know their stuff but sometimes they are not simple in their explanation.

I have so many good preachers on CD, Fr. Bennedict Groeschel, Fr. Bill Casey, Scott Hahn, Bishop Fulton Sheen, Patrick Madrid and many more.

The only one who has a compelling style like Fr.Corapi is Bishop Sheen.

I’ll leave this to the Holy Spirit.

I think Cardinal O’Connor had a fairly compelling style. It could be said that Cardinal Arinze has a compelling style.

There are probably some pretty dynamic priests working the Latin America circuit who have greater outreach than Fr. Corapi could ever hope for.

I think that the Holy Spirit will probably surprize us in who rises to become another outstanding and efficatious renowned preacher.
