"NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. — Federal prosecutors say a Catholic nun embezzled about $1.2 million from the suburban New York college where she was vice president of finance.

The U.S. attorney in Manhattan said that from 1999 to 2009, Sister Marie Thornton used Iona College funds for her personal expenses. The complaint says she submitted false invoices and had Iona pay her credit card bills.

The 62-year-old Thornton was arrested Thursday and pleaded not guilty in Manhattan. A message left Friday for defense attorney Sanford Talkin was not immediately returned."

Sounds like serious trouble to me. Without knowing the details, the sister seems to have had major difficulty in interpreting the 7th commandment.

So, what is your take on this, Beau?

I just can’t believe this. What would she spend it on?

From what I heard, the money went to pay off credit cards and go to casinos to gamble.

Sad all around…😦
As you say, it’s sad. Only someone who is trusted can abuse others trust, especially a religious was probably considered above suspicion.
Unfortunately a lot of charities don’t call in outside auditors as they should to catch this sort of thing.

A nun being arrested for larceny is just inconceivable to me.

Maybe I’m naive.

You know, for me a story is just another whack at my naive Beliefs of Youth.

I used to think women were generally better than men, but I keep finding out this is not so.
