The article is disappointing. It jumps from the Cardinal’s appreciation of the exhibit, which has nothing heretical about it and his encouragement to the sisters that they remain faithful and his gratitude for the services that they have provided in healthcare, education and so forth, to the comments of the dissident sisters.
The comments were not made at the exhibit. These comments were made elswhere. What Life Site News failed to mention is that Cardinal O’Malley is not only the board that deals with religious life in the USA, but he is also one of the undersecretaries of the Sacred Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life in the Holy See and that he voted for the investigation. They also failed to mention that he sits on the Sacred Congregation for the Clergy and that he was sent to the Diocese of Palm Beach, FL to clean up their mess and later to the Archdiocese of Baltimore to clean up that mess. Nor did they mention that when the Holy Father came to the USA he insisted that the Holy Father meet with a delegation of the victims of sexual abuse. He wrote letters and made telephone calls and finally the Holy Father’s staff agreed to set up the meeting as long as the Cardinal could guarrantee the confidentiality of the victims and the secret of the meeting so that it would not turn into a media circus. While the White House was throwing a birthday party for the pope, the Cardinal had made arrangements to sneak the pope out of the public eye and into the nunciature through a back door. Once inside the Holy Father met with 50 victims, privately and the victims were escorted quietly out of the nunciature to protect their privacy, per their request. In the mantime, everyone thought that the pope was resting.
I don’t understand why reporters can’t tell the whole story about people and not use one story to bring up their own agenda. I’m suprised that LSN did not edit this report.
