Nun ousted after assenting to abortion

If I was a priest, I would be embarrassed of that priest in the interview. You cannot commit a murder to save a life. :cool:
 
Typical NBC. Typical liberals in general. Of course they are not going to talk to the woman who was the reason for all of the chaos and investigate what she wanted. This is the typical ‘how dare the Catholics!’ Maybe the nun deserved to be excommunicated, maybe this was too extreme (this comment is just food for thought, not my opionion). The point is that NBC did not give all the facts of the case, they just used this time to bash us.

IMHO, this nun should look like a nun, at the very least, wear a habit!!

It seemed like the “reporter” was simply intent on bashing the Catholic Church. The clerical sex abuse scandal has no bearing on this case, yet the “reporter” managed to tie the two together.
 
To be fair, the secular world (and a lot of Catholics) has a hard time understanding Catholic teaching in these cases. It is not permitted to abort an unborn child to save the life of the mother, despite the fact that both the mother and the unborn child might die as a result of the mother’s pulmonary hypertension, as in the situation being reported. Even if the mother delivers safely, a high proportion of women with severe pulmonary hypertension die within a couple of months following childbirth. To want to preserve the life of an unborn child is one thing, but to risk the death of the mother – and perhaps the lives of both mother and unborn child – is quite another.

I have to admit, it seems so contrary to everything a hospital stands for to tell such a woman that she has to attempt to give birth to the child and risk death (her own death and that of her unborn child), not because they are unable to save her life – they can – but because the means at their disposal, namely abortion – is not permitted.
 
There were more facts on ABC. The patient was 27 and the mother of 4 children. The medical opinion was that if the pregnancy were not terminated, both mother and fetus would die. If the pregnancy were terminated the mother could live. The ethics committee at the hospital, of which the nun was a member, decided to terminate the pregnancy to save the mother. The pregnancy was terminated; the mother lived, and the Bishop excommunicated the nun. It seems very cold to say that it would have been preferable that both mother and fetus should die when the mother could be saved and there was no chance of saving the fetus.

No, the bishop simply acknowledged that the nun had excommunicated herself. Neither you nor NBC seem to grasp that simple fact.

Exactly. She excommunicated herself as soon as she became involved in an abortion, whether the bishop said anything or not.
