They have been and are used to silence/stop further enquiries/investigation about sex abuse/scandal in presbyteries/convents/schools etc.

Well that’s an odd thing for the mother superior to say"I just can’t understand why there is such noise about this".It seems from her remarks this happens all the time.Who knows maybe it does happen more often than we know.There is a place that is located I think in Utah that had been a convent and children’s camp. It supposedly is haunted by a nun who got pregnant and the mother superior took the baby and drowned it. The place is real but not sure about the story. I hate to say this but when people read books like Maria Monk’s Awful Disclosures and some of these old anti catholic books of the past dealing with convents I as a catholic really start to wonder.I wonder if there wasn’t some truth to their tales even if it was distorted.
She had help getting pregnant might have been a priest or someone else. It would be fairly easy to count backwards to when she got pregnant.It might have happend before she came to Italy or maybe in Italy.Could be as I mentioned some priest or even some lay person who works at the old folks home as a maintance man.

Generally when we “hate to say this”, that means we shouldn’ say it as its most likely not true and we are just spreading terrible rumors. That’s not very Catholic!, God Bless, Memaw

The other issue I have is why try to hide the baby? I don’t know of too many civilized authorities who would approve of such action.

I think what the Mother Superior is trying to say is that she doesn’t quite understand why this is international news. Which is what I thought when I first saw the story. It’s interesting and sensationalist, but not, IMHO, newsworthy.

The reason it became international news is because somehow local italian media got wind of the story and it became italian news.Then it gets picked up by the press in other countries.Happens all the time.The big deal is this woman who is supposed to not have sex period because she’s a nun did so and had a baby.If this was say a case of two sisters having lesbian sex and it does happen sometimes in convents no one beside the mother superior would have known.It then would have been up to her to take action.There would be no baby invovled at all.If someone thinks these things don’t happen with clergy and religious I suggest they read Boccacio’s Decameron, The Heptameron by Marguerite de Valois who was Queen of Naverre and daughter of Catherine De Medici amongst other books and these aren’t 21 st century books.The sexual adventures of the servants of the church have fueled pornography in Catholic countries for years. There is even a book called Nunploytain.Not sure if I’m spelling it right.It’s a book about movies made in Europe mainly in italy etc. which was about nuns running amok sexually.

What is important now is what is going to happen to the mother and baby. If let’s say I was mother superior I would discuss this with the bishop and Rome. Maybe she could become a lay member of the community and live and work as she is doing now and keep the baby.
I would not want to throw her and the little one in the street.And i would darn well try to find out who the dad was cause he needs to help support his son.

The amazing thing is that the Catholic Church remains ONE, HOLY, CATHOLIC and APOSTOLIC, in spite of the sins of its members. And it still produces Saints from sinners. And it will continure to do so till the end of the world!! THANK GOD!. Someone once said, If those from within can’t destroy the Catholic Church, don’t count on those from without to be able to do it!. Not sure thats the exact wording but you get the idea anyway.
