So then why don’t these women put their whole “social justice” thing to work and actually try and reduce abortions. Pray at clinics. Volunteer at birthright or project rachel. Hand out flyers promoting adoption. OR if you want to get political, make the courts protect the unborn through protest and pass laws to help pregnant women.

Seriously, these women are so misguided.
Sr. Simone Campbell is a lawyer-lobbyist, and one of the “Nuns on the Bus”.

The bus thing was amusing. Getting directly involved in a political campaign for a pro-abortion politician, in a $100,000 plus bus with a rock star paint job that had to cost $10,000, to carry two nuns around.

And this is supposed to inspire in us a sense of “social justice”?

God bless the nuns so the voice for social justice is heard.
The average age of sisters in the US is about 76 now. And there’s not much social justice going on in most convents. Although…as the average age continues to increase, at some point that won’t even matter anymore. They’ll become unable to carry on with each other over politics.

She’s a fraud, and embarrassing for sisters. Actually, all Catholics. Take a hard stand on “social justice” but refuse to take a stand on abortion and consequences? That’s pathetic.

When the average age stops, it won’t matter. These women are a dying breed. They’re the Corvair, or Beta-max of religious orders.

I am confused by your comment. Would you mind elaborating?

I was fortunate enough to have been taught by Benedictine nuns. They were mostly in their 40 s and 50’s at that time, although to a little kid like me, they all seemed ANCIENT. This weekend our class is celebrating its 40th anniversary of 8th grade graduation. Sadly, none of our nuns are alive to enjoy it with us. Hopefully, they have their reward in heaven.

For my first six grades, all the nuns wore a full habit. Then in 7th grade they modified it a little, they kept the head covering, but started to wear skirts below the knee. Who knew they had legs? 😉 The following year a few of the younger nuns just started wearing conservative clothes, but no head covering. Who knew they had hair? 🤷
The problem is that many of the nuns have left the convent and choristers in the name “Social Justice”…many go out and try to save the world. Many have gotten caught up in liberalism and materialism. We need nuns like Mother Teresa.

Actually the middle-aged ones you see in the news are the “youngsters.” Most of the ones that are still alive are quite old. The average age is about 76 in the US now.

At the peak in the US, around 1965, there were approx 180,000 sisters. Now there are still about 1/3 that many, but you very seldom see a sister because of their average age. The great majority of them don’t work; the great majority of them don’t even go out in public any more. They’re too old to do so. Many convents, on the inside, look very much like retirement homes with all female patients.

All this talk about sisters taking care of the poor and being on the forefront of anything is an illusion. Most sisters no longer do any of that. Most of them are simply too old for that.

At what price do we endorse Social Justice? Do we pay for it with allowing rampant Abortion on demand? With allowing the loss of Religous Freedoms?
These nuns make me sick. Sister Simone should be chiding the faithful to tithe rather than pretending the Govt programs solve poverty or bring social justice.

Her position is forced tithing through taxes is the right answer. She is a socialist.

Indeed. I was impressed by their foresight in zoning in on Paul Ryan even before he was selected VP. Many nuns, like some people in my acquaintance, see everyday the real roots of abortion. I don’t blame anybody who thinks that respect for life begins pre-conception.

Okay, you’ve got me intrigued now, how is what these sisters stand for pro-life, and how do they respect life before conception?

And even better, how did they zone in on Paul Ryan? Did they zone in on his traditional Catholic beliefs? Come on you can tell me, or do I need a whistle?

Oh yes? Just how many babies does Social Justice cost eh?

Why would social justice exclude babies? For every pregnant woman who finds support - be it through family, community, Church or social programs - that encourages her to not withhold the gift of life from her baby - there is social justice and there is LIFE! Beautiful, precious, life.

I have no idea what you mean about a whistle. The nuns were all over that Paul Ryan budget, with a special spurt of energy (it seemed to me) coming just days before he was chosen as VP. I just thought that reflected good intuition (or perhaps something more ;)) on their part.

How do people respect life before conception? That’s easy: when we respect all life, and especially when we make provision for those among us who are most vulnerable (and therefore perhaps least likely to feel/be respected), we help make it more likely that they in turn will value their own lives and those lives that they conceive.

Why can’t it be BOTH support for social justice AND support for life in all instances?

Aren’t both virtues and teachings of Christianity?
Well from my observation, indeed I think that’s what the practicing faithful Catholics on the forum who weigh the many issues and have decided upon their candidate for the White House just as the nuns have, are trying to do. 🤷

She is tryiing to stretch out her 15 minutes of fame. She is Cindy Sheehan in a habit

It is not the bus but her words at the DNC which inspired me so that I was on my feet in my living room along with the DNC delegates in the hall giving her a standing O.

I know the future concerns me greatly.

Kinda missing the point eh? The HHS Mandate and rabid it’s abortion for all impetus does indeed assault the rights of the Preborn to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of happiness eh?
