• Lawful actions and disciiplines by the Church including the historical excommunication of the SSPX. It happened. Rome explained why it happened. End of story. Rome did not put it out there for debate by the faithful.
• Another poster or his/her ideas. You can disagree. You cannot attack,insult, ridicule or dismiss as unimportant. His opinion is as important to him as your opinion is to you.
• Parishes, pastors, civil leaders.
• Other religions – if you’re unsure how to speak in public about other faiths, look at the Pope Benedict XVI. He is fraternal, polite, and intellectual in discussing religious differences.

Avoid arguments that will lead to violations of charity. You don’t have to like what you read and others do not have to like what you post. But you must be civil toward each other and those who are not on the forum.

Granted. But ONE of the banes of the Church is clericalism. The Council was supposed to change all that. Ironically, the sensibilities of the laity were too often disregarded by members of the clergy as changes were effected. I know for certain that some priests were telling women long before the Council that the Church was about to change its position on Birth Control. My information is anecdotal, but definitely there was the smell of smoke. The resistance to the Encyclical in 1968 reflects an infidelity already deeply rooted in the Church, and not least in the lesser clergy. I heard some crazy things from young priests about the source of their authority, or their disdain for their bishops. Now I discounted much of this because I, too, was happy with the changes that had taken place and I hoped that barriers between Catholics and others would be lowered. I was not convinced by the natural law argument against artificial birth control. What I am convinced off these many years later is that the Pope was a prophet. It is startling to read what the Holy Father predicted in the light of what has happened. And looking around at the number of persons who have left the Church, who no longer pay heed to the faith of their fathers, I conclude that we have suffered a catastrophe not unlike that suffered by the Church in France after 1789.

The Catholic Faith is the fastest growing Church in the world by far. Of course we are also the most pursecuted Church a well. The only place where the Church receeds is in the wealthier countries such as the US.

Western people are leaving the Church because they want the fruit of that tree. People want to define what is good and evil. They want to have sex without the burden of children. They want to control life. They want to be “free” to chose how and when they can have sex. This is standard. The irony of it all is that they are not free at all, but rather enslaved by their own pride. Only in the emptying of pride in the giving of one’s life can we truly live the Gospel truth.

There are rich theological truths behind all which has been handed down to us from the Apostles and their decedents (the Bishops).

There are practical reasons for procreation if you wish to hear them.

Sister Theresa Kane, LCWR president at the time, famously and publicly confronted Pope John Paul II in 1979 in a formal address welcoming him to the Washington DC’s Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. She urged him to open all ministries of the Catholic Church to women. The incident made headlines all over the world.

From a 2009 article in the National Catholic Reporter, we have this:

“Kane, as the nation’s most identifiable advocate of women’s ordination, has been repeatedly asked if she fears a Vatican excommunication. Her response:
“I’m not out of communion. The institution got out of communion with me.””
This sort of thing had been going on for a very long time with the LCWR leadership.

Remember the story of him at the Diet of Worms, defying the Emperor: “Here I stand, I can not do otherwise.”Of course he would have been a dead man except that he had the protection of a powerful Prince. They can depend on the Media, and even some in the Church, for protection. Otherwise, they would not be so bold.

RobbyS. You are correct. To publicly reject the authority of the Catholic Church makes you a protestant: by definition.

I have privately doubted my Church in my youth, but my mother always reminded me to keep still, and move closer to the Church to understand. To date the Church is right on every matter I have studied. I should of known from the outset that my Church was Holy. Keep close to the Mystical Body of Christ; the Church!

Christians and Jews were the two societies that steadily grew, in part because they renounced infanticide.

Exactly! My second daughter was home schooled one year using Seton Catholic Home Schooling (I highly recommend them). Her history book was very influenced by Catholic principles and they pointed out that the English colonies of North America grew in size and influence simply because they had families. The French sent soldiers, but colonization was sparse in Louisiana.

Her history book was very influenced by Catholic principles and they pointed out that the English colonies of North America grew in size and influence simply because they had families. The French sent soldiers, but colonization was sparse in Louisiana.

Just a detail, although an important one. Between 1715 and 1776, the 13 colonies grew faster than any other area of the world during the whole course of human history. Partly, it was owning to the slave trade, but both black and white populations grew tremendously fast. This was attributed to acclimation ,to the new foods making their way to the new world, and of course the relative abundance of land. The only population that declined was the Indian population. Had it not been for the plagues that swept them away, today’s Southerners would look more like Brazilians.
