All the more reason to carefully monitor nursing homes if it’s absolutely impossible to keep seniors out of them. While home health aides can also be violent and crooked (as in credit card theft), generally, family members can keep better tabs on caregivers who come into people’s own homes to take care of them.
Generally, it’s better for everyone concerned if a person can stay in his or her own home. It’s less expensive, the surroundings and environment remain familiar, loved ones have easier access – and the care is usually one-one, so the caregivers can give more undivided attention to the people they care for.
It’s just a shame that nobody was around to help Mr. Bledsoe when his roommate started beating him. I suspect staff was either too busy with other residents, or just weren’t paying proper attention. Stuff like this doesn’t happen in a properly run and managed facility. Obviously, this one wasn’t.
