Several years ago I received the NYT daily in my e-mail in box. At that time I had been away from the church for over ten years. I followed the scandal and, although it was heartbreaking, I figured it was news. After a year and a half of this coverage I realised that the paper seemed gleeful in it’s reporting, they couldn’t seem to get enough. Non-stories found their way to the top of the news section even though they contained no news and were little more than opinion. This caused me to look critically at what was truly happening. Then I looked closely at my childhood church as an adult. This, along with catholic.com and relevant radio, led me to mass and then reconciliation (which was wonderful) and back to enjoying and living in my faith. So, I guess I owe a thank-you to the NYT for their biased and spiteful coverage and their attempt to make a horrible situation even worse. Thanks NYT!

It appears that the editorial is commending Cardinal Egan for the current program, but calling for more aggressive measures to keep current priests on the straight and narrow. I’m not sure I agree that additional measures are necessary now, but it seems like a perfectly acceptable position to take.

When I was getting my degree in education, I was often told that often you learn more from a bad example than a good one. Welcome back.

The NYT is in severe financial difficulty with declining readership. They are going down for the third time and will grasp any straw, or create any senstional story, to keep themselves afloat. Note their gleeful revelation of National Intelligence techniques.
