The GOP wouldn’t work with Obama.

The Democrats, if Romney is elected, are not going to work with him.
I recall Obama’s response to efforts of the Republicans to have a role in the healthcare debate as " the elections over." Such bi-partisanship!

Hopefully enough Republicans will win in the senate so Romney will only need a handfull of Democrats who are willing to work in a bi-partisan way. They are out there but they are overshadowed by guys like Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi.

Sounds like tit for tat. I hope this is not the case if Romney is elected.
Yes, it does sound like tit-for-tat. Just calling it how I see it.

For me it would depend on what Romney would try to get through whether they would cooperate or not.

Cut corporate welfare- I’m all for that.
Limit Social Security for the wealthy- I can deal with that.
Nuclear energy- I can wrap my head around that
Cutting food stamps and public assistance- I’m not cool with.
Drilling in pristine wilderness- I wouldn’t approve of either.

I don’t recall Carter, Mondale or Dukakis being given a very prominet role in subsequent Democrat campaigns either. Of course all lost their elections, but it could be said that insofar as 2008 was a referendum on Bush policies, Bush “lost” as well. People say things like “where is George Bush in the Romney campaign?” thinking they’re saying something real clever, but its just simple politics.

I just wondered why he hasn’t spoken his support at the very least. I’ve seen Gov. Christie criticized for not doing more during the cleanup of his state after the storm. And, as mentioned Clinton is on the campaign trail for this administration. Like Clinton, Bush served two terms. 🤷

His dad and Carter must be close to 90 now, and I haven’t heard anything of Mondale in a long time.

Geez, sorry I asked.

That’s the problem with our country now. Each side blames the other, and nothing gets done. 😦

Not officially, but he is being channeled by Mitt Romney.
Romney and Ryan have been making the fiscal spending issue a hallmark of the campaign - unlike George Bush who was basically “Democrat lite” on spending. So it would be more accurate to say that Bush is being channeled by Obama.

Iow…you are in favor of “compromising” on things you support 100%. 😛

That’s because these days, Democrats don’t work with anybody. If they can’t get their own way, they want REVENGE. And condoms. And pink vagina suits.
There were quite a few around these parts who praised the GOP in not wearing with Obama.

So frustration with lack of cooperation only goes one way for some.

Romney Camp Political Director Predicts 300 Electoral Win for Mitt Romney
“There’s going to be a widespread repudiation of the Obama Administration. And Governor Romney and Congressman Ryan will be elected the next president and vice president of the United States. And I don’t think we’ll have to wait very long to get it… I’m saying that Pennsylvania and Minnesota and Michigan are not past the 270 as Mr. Axelrod would like to purport. Those are past the 300. This is going to be a big election. And Governor Romney is going to win.”

I thought my post was clear. I am for some compromising.

Nuclear energy, and denying SS, even to the rich doesn’t really excite me. I also don’t like off-shore drilling but would be OK with some of it if push came to shove.

In order to get things done, you have to have a certain consensus on the key issues and a willingness to work together. We have neither. So one side has to win a majority to get their program in place. That is what Obama did in 2008 with a 60 seat majority in the senate. Things got done - the wrong things though. Hopefully the GOP can win a majority and get things done - the right things. That challenge will be to get reforms in while not getting beat in the midterms as the Democrats did in 2010. I think if they are skillfull and take their case to America, they can do it. Of course an improved economy would help too.

It’s sad how blind so many of you are. You claim the democrats can’t work with republicans? Who’s fault is that? Who’s the party of religious idealism? Which party compromised on health care so we could get something passed? Only in America could we have such blindness. Get out and see the world people - it might surprise you.

Fortunately Obama will win, but the fact this is close is quite disturbing. I can’t even tell what Mitt believes on any issue, yet we have 45% of this country that want him to do the most important job in the nation? How can you trust a man who lies so much and doesn’t even know where he stands?

There is some chance that Romney will win though I am beginning to feel it is less likely.

There is ZERO evidence that the GOP will take a majority in the senate.

I don’t do the whole CAF “THIS WILL HAPPEN” thing but I will make an exception here, and say that the GOP is not taking the Senate. No way, no how.

No kidding!

In the spirit of Ringil, here is my list of compromises:
  1. Overturn Roe V Wade - I’m all for that.
  2. Keystone pipeline and energy independence - I’m for that too.
  3. Cutting government waste - for that.
  4. Cutting govt. funding to PBS (sorry Big Bird).

I must disagree with your statement that Jeb Bush lacks experience and does not rival Hillary Clinton in intellect. It is Jeb Bush who should have run for President in the first place instead of his far less talented, albeit kind and compassionate, brother. JB has plenty of experience as Governor and is the type of Republican we need more of today. However, I think his time has passed, if he ever wanted to be President. Also, I think the country has had just about enough of both the Bushes and the Clintons, although if Bill were to enter the race right now, he might be elected!
I think that a HC vs JB political campaign would be a good one.

My opinion is that JB did not run this time, because the best candidate is generally not put forward to run against an incumbent. G.H.W. Bush talks rather graciously of how he was surprised by Mr. Clinton, who was not taken seriously, at first. Also, the memory of G.W. Bush was still too fresh. After that disaster, the name of Bush is not very welcome in national politics. It will take another election cycle.

This would be one reason for the Bush machine to hand Florida to Obama, if they can. Romney would be out of the game, if that were to happen. Jeb might not be able to run against Romney in 2016, as an incumbent president. If Romney were to win a second term, then it might be time to switch back over to the democrats for 4-8 years. This would put Jeb’s prospects way out in 2024, or 2028.

The Bush political dynasty has good reason not to want Romney to win, and they are powerful and stealthy. This could be the wildcard in this election. I don’t know if they still have the same sort of overwhelming influence in FL, as they did in 2004. Jeb is no longer governor. But if they do, then they might quietly do their best give the state to Obama to open up the opportunity to extend the family dynasty in 2016.

Now that I said this, if I disappear from this forum tomorrow, look for me in the hills of Afghanistan humping it as a recon btn surgeon.

I haven’t really looked at the Senate chances. I would never say “no way” - that is the same as those saying " Romney is a sure bet to win the election because Dick Morris said so." We see what happens on Tuesday.

Difference is some of mine were actually compromises, not straight party agenda.

I say that Romney does have a chance- hard to say though- of winning. The Senate races aren’t panning out that way.

THe GOP will keep the House.
