Thanks for the clarification. I don’t know enough about this Operation Condor, but I do know how the left re-creates history. Anyway, you are a brother! 👍 Rob
That’s okay.

From off the top of my head: Various South American nations elected Communist leaders starting in the 1970’s, many of whom were ousted in coups. The new military leaders (Augusto Pinochet, for instance), fearful of a Communist uprising, decided to work together to monitor and eliminate threats to their power and hegemony, and instituted Operation Condor.

Sadly, Condor basically consisted of widespread kidnappings, torture, “hits”, and “disappearances” (basically drugging suspected dissidents, loading them into planes, flying over the ocean, and dumping them out). Hundreds of thousands of people are still missing, and undoubtedly some were innocent of anything. One particularly famous victim was Archbishop Romero, who was assassinated by Guatemalan special forces during Mass right as he was saying the consecration over the host.

Now my professor was very left-wing, so there was certainly bias in my studies of this subject. That aside, my unbiased takeaway was that it was a fairly brutal and violent use of governmental and military force against otherwise innocent citizens. As for US involvement, that depends on the source you quote and what unclassified info you can find.

**Father George Rutler **(writing at Newadvent.org)

"The peace and good order of our whole nation hang on how we vote. Catholics can keep faith with the Fathers of the Church and the Founding Fathers of our Nation only by voting for those who defend the fundamental right to life and the First Amendment guarantee of religious freedom."

I think he speaks the truth quite well.

I was compelled to re-print the WSJ article above. I’m a huge fan of Peggy Noonan’s. She speaks so candidly, point blank, so poetic with words. I sincerely hope she is spot on with the election.
Agreed on all accounts. Noonan is always a good read, even when I disagree with her. She is blunt and candid and I appreciate both of those things a great deal. I pray she is correct.

Look up President Reagan’s actions with the HIV crisis. His direct orders, stopping the CDC from pursuing their normal course of action, because of his hatred of homosexuals, resulted in many thousands, and perhaps millions of deaths. He directly blocked research and prevention efforts. 25 million people have died from that disease. President Reagan is personally responsible for many of those deaths.

He was charismatic. He improved the portfolios of the rich, while increasing our debt as a ratio of GDP more than any president before him. He was effective in foreign policy. He punished the mentally ill, and he killed people with HIV by direct order. He was not an ethical man.
Provide proof or issue a retraction. Anything else, I will report this post to the moderation staff.

She has a knack for writing, but I lost a great deal of respect for her when she announced that she was voting for Obama. There was no excuse for that.

Our last presidential deified saint, was Saint Reagan, Patron Saint of the One Percent, and arch enemy of the 90%. Destroyer of the Poor and Mentally Ill. Defied by the right.

Do you think that Romney will be similarly deified?
Turned around the economy, joined forces with Pope John Paul 2 to bring down communism. Reagan was a great president.

I’m interested in proof, too, epan—though for exactly the opposite reasons jwench is. 😃

Egads! This concerns me:

*Malik Zulu Shabazz, told a radio interviewer in September that the New Black Panthers - labeled a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center and others for its anti-white and anti-Semitic rhetoric - might be out monitoring some polling places again in 2012.

“I will say that as this election comes up in November, we will consider our options,” he told WABC Radio’s “Aaron Klein Investigative Radio” show. “And we will consider the fact whether we will legally and lawfully go to the polls again to make sure there is no intimidation against our people, which was our intent in 2008.”

But Malik Zulu Shabazz told the interviewer, “No, sir,” when asked if any poll-watchers would have nightsticks or other weapons.*

Are you not aware that the Forum is an opinion Forum? We’re not under oath here. 🤷
The poster claimed that Reagan “hated homosexuals and killed people.” I seem to remember a certain poster recently appealing to civility and politeness on these forums.

I don’t care. I do not believe it is within forum rules to accuse someone of killing people because they had HIV and because he hated them for being gay. If you make claims like that, you sure as heck better provide proof.

If the moderators disagree, they can let the post stand.

I thought JP2 was a pole? As was Lech Walesa and his fellow Poles - you’re right - I stand corrected.

Ishii
JPII was the Pope, which effectively took him outside ordinary nationality.

“joined forces with Pope John Paul 2 to bring down communism.” Don’t see a single word about Walesa or his fellow Poles there. 😦

Oh yeah…Lech Walesa who endorsed Romney this election. Bringing it all back to the topic. 😃

Corporate dismemberment became the order of the day, he pioneered the practice of becoming nationally indebted to foreign lenders, tight money policy by the Fed’s Paul Volcker pushed unemployment up to 10%, with a huge upswing in consumer debt to artificially support sales and profits, he reaped undeserved political credit for a military buildup initiated under Jimmy Carter (who also set the tone and direction of that buildup), he attacked a non-existent threat in Grenada to distract people from his misstep in Lebanon that got over two hundred Marines killed—yep, that’s a GREAT president, ishii—NOT.

And let’s not forget how he pushed for gun control in CA while he was governor there, just because Black Panthers marched into the middle of a state legislative session carrying legally-purchased, legally-registered firearms in a state where open carry was still legal at the time—just so he could be seen to be “doing something” about it.
