That is not how America works. If I speculated you had white supremacist ties, people would expect me to prove your guilt, not you to prove your innocence.
Some of the more financially minded gurus here may be able to elaborate for me, but is there not some situations where large sums of money are involved that information must be provided as to where that money is coming from?

I’m not afraid of offending anyone, show me where you got the 100 million and I’ll shut up.

Simple as that. It’s stupid not to inquire.

Rich muslims are waiters in their spare time?
Exactly. The type of attitude that tries to pander to the muslim community for fear of offending them is the one that will get us attacked again.

American muslims, and I think many of them do, have to understand that the radical form of their religion is out to get us. They not only attacked us on 9/11, but they attacked us at Ft. Hood and attempted to set another bomb in NY. To ignore those incidents for fear of offending all muslims is down right foolish and leaves us open to more attacks.

As the clip I posted before shows, there are muslims in this country who are sympathetic to terrorists and hate jews. We need to keep an eye out for these types of people.

So you admit that your opposition to the centre is based solely on your mistrust of the Muslim religion. I think we’re done here.

Right, just disclose private records for the fun of it- real American thing to ask there.

Terrorist groups funnel money into guns and explosives, not mosques- it would be more reasonable, although still baseless, to suspect that the group building the mosque supported terrorism.
Why not? They say the purpose of this Mosque is to foster understanding. What better way to foster understanding and to prove to people that they’re finally does not come from terrorist groups?

How comfortable would you be if someone were to judge your religion based on, say, the crusades, the inquisition, or even St Bartholomew Days Massacre. What if someone said: "Catholics have a long history of intolerance, just look at how they forced people to convert during the Inquisition, and where do you think the phrase ‘kill them all and let God sort them out’ comes from? A monk in the Crusades."

You would say: those actions were based on bad interpretations of Catholicism, and took place hundreds of years ago! But why should they listen to you, you are an intolerant Catholic.

This is what you are doing to the Muslims. Refusing to listen to what they say just because they are Muslim.
It happens all the time. Several times a day in CAF itself. In fact you just did it yourself

Muslims have always built mosques on the sites of their conquests.
And Catholics built churches and cathedrals on the Aztec and other conquered peoples’ holy sites during their conquests. It’s what all conquerors, as you pointed out, tend to do.

However, a mosque in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn should have nothing to do with Muslim conquests, as I see it, at least.

A simple background check into this one character and his funding is all that is being requested and the proponents of the mosque want to scream that we are anti-muslim. Yet, two of them here refuse to answer a simple question on whether or not they would support the mosque if the funds had terrorist ties.

It wasn’t long ago our government stopped a white man in an airport and demanded to know why he had a briefcase full of cash.

Yet, liberals are too scared to stop a muslim and ask him where he is getting his 100 million dollars.

Yep, we will get attacked again. And again, and again. Until they change their attitude it will continue to happen.

The planned mosque is near Ground Zero, not at Ground Zero.

Having said that, perhaps most Americans think Islam is not a religion but a hateful and backward ideology that they really want no part of. Given the history of Islam, they are right. Islam is a seventh century Christian heresy.

Has the NYC Planning Commission or whoever they are given approval for the destroyed St. Nicholas Church? Last I heard, the answer was no.

The man has answered where the money is coming from, private donors. He does not have the right to reveal the names of these people, and the donors have plenty of good reason to not want their names out there considering the controversy surrounding the issue and the threats the mosque has already been getting.

Do you really think that the government hasn’t investigated the source of this money anyway? There has been plenty of controversy to attract homeland securities attention and plenty of claims that they have “terrorist money” and you think they haven’t/aren’t looking into it? I don’t even have problems with private investigations going on at the same time. I do have a problem with the fact that a good numbers of the protesters are filled with hate. An Egyptian Christian, who was there to protest himself, actually had to be extracted from the protests by police because the protesters were harassing him since he “looked like a Muslim.” I also have a problem with labeling liberals as people who can’t prevent attacks on US soil because they are too timid, why do Christians in either political group feel it is okay to attack large groups of people based on their claimed political affiliation? Over 65% of American’s don’t like the mosque which means that some of those people are indeed liberals, and I am willing to bet that a few percentage points of the remaining 30-some percent are conservatives.

No, the opposition is changing what it wants when it finds itself backed into a corner. They want to prevent the centre from being built because they don’t like Islam but are dressing it up as insensitive, and are trying to cast doubts about those in charge. They have assumed the Muslims are guilty until proven innocent.

Carrying a briefcase of money through an airport is suspicious, wanting to build a community centre is not. Further, anyone with a briefcase full of cash in an airport is likely to be questioned, whereas if a Christian or secular organization had wanted to build this community centre, none of these demands would have been made. There is only an uproar because opponents think that Muslims are less trustworthy than other groups.

What better way to show we are willing to be understanding than not immediately equating all things Muslim with terrorists?

Then the government and this imam need to let everyone know that the funds have been checked into by homeland security, and I promise you that 65% will drop.

Only 20% of the population identify themselves as liberals. So that 65 is probably made up of the 40 some odd percent who identfiy themselves as conservatives and the rest who are moderates.

“Private donors” just makes things worse.

That would require an investigation, and an investigation would require a valid suspicion of wrong doing, which has not been presented.

Which question? Where does the money come from? Private donors.
No, if it were found out that some of those private donors also funded terrorist activity would you still support it? This is only the third time I’ve asked it.

Not all muslims are terrorist, but here in American the odds of a terrorist being muslim are pretty high.
