President Obama, marking the end of a prolonged “evolution” on the issue, now favors allowing homosexual couples to marry, he said in a television interview Wednesday.

The announcement comes days after Vice President Joe Biden’s comments that he was “absolutely comfortable” with gay marriage put new pressure on Obama to clarify his position on the issue.

Obama told ABC’s Robin Roberts Wednesday: “Over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together, when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married.”

Something positive to say… well, I at least respect that he’s not playing the “wait until after the election” game.

But I thought homosexuals just wanted to be left along?

Then I thought they wanted the same legal rights afforded under civil unions?

Now we’re told by our President civil unions aren’t enough, that “marriage” is the key?

People with a clue knew he was full of it when he claimed he believed otherwise. To say you have an “evolving position” is code for “I’ll change my answer when it is convenient.”

At least it is out there now. Interesting he did say he prefers that these sorts of things stay out of the feds hands and are handled at the state level. I guess healthcare is not one of these things.

Marriage won’t be either, if he has his druthers.

Plus, now there is one less position for Catholics who support him to try and wiggle behind.

Oh, boy… :rolleyes::eek:

Part of me is saying:

“His possibility for a second term has just evaporated.”

Another side of me says:

“We’ll see in November whether this sinks him or not. A good portion of the non-religious (and some liberally religious) public supports this----so it could be a either/or proposition.”

I tend to cautiously (and ultimately) go with the second thought. We’ll see.

IF he wins a second term, he will see it as a blank check by the American people to let him try to pass whatever he wants. This will be one of his opportunities to write “checks.”🤷

Hang on to your safety belts, folks… 👍

We need to get Obama out of the White House. Urgently. It is time for the religious people of this country (whether Catholic or not) and the just plain God-abiding, period, to stand up for the Truth Of God.

Please Holy Father, help us in our hour of need. Through the prayers of the Mother of God,
have mercy on us and save us. Amen.

From the perspective of the pro-traditional marriage and anti-O’Bama camps I think this is probably a good thing. This will galvinize a lot of conservative voters that are not thrilled about Romney to get out to the poles and vote O’Bama out of office. There are large numbers of Latino and Black voters that will be alienated by this too.

Well that’s a shocker  Who would have guessed he’d “change” his position on gay marriage after he petitioned for DADT to be abolished and refuses to defend DOMA.

Yep-------------------------shocking. :D:p

US President Barack Obama has ended months of equivocation on the issue of gay marriage by saying he thinks same-sex couples should be able to wed.

He told ABC News: “It is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married.”

Mr Obama has become the first US president to back gay marriage.

I think the shocking part is that he wound up having to admit it before the election, thanks to good old Joe and others on his staff. 🙂

I hope so. If you look at the number of states that have passed constitutional amendments to prevent traditional marriage from being redefined, the numbers are definitely in our favor.

Nice timing Mr. President. Guess this means you want to intentionally lose NC this election. Works for me.

He cited Christ as a reason he endorsed:

Obama must be so worried about the turnout among the left wing.

Contrast his endorsement to his 2008 position:

Obama in 2008: I believe marriage is the union between a man and a woman. As a Christian it’s also a sacred union.
Since 1998 32 times gay ‘marriage’ has been on the ballot for vote. 32 times it has been rejected.

You can be sure if Obama is reelected that he will want to legalize gay ‘marriage.’ Beating him in November is now even more important.

Are he and Biden in sync, or did Biden say what he ought not to have, forcing Obama to admit his position.

It doesn’t change my position about rejecting him. He’s run the country incompetently IMO regardless of where he stands on social positions.

“White House insiders” (whoever they are) claim he did not intnd to make this an issue, but Biden forced his hand. Thanks Joe.

Let’s hope he does. We will have a lot of pro-Marriage voters at the polls in Washington, so maybe we’ll even do better here. 👍
