Yes, to the extend that the power to command was well-defined rather than absolute. I’d rather say that Jesus respected the legitimate authority. As I understand it, you are basically saying that the Pharisee priests had power by God to command Christ, even though they denied Jesus as the Messiah.
What is going to happen to individual employers? They are not all going to launch lawsuits, Cardinal Raymond burke said if employers provide insurance under the HHS mandate they have mortally sinned. Could the HHS mandate go to the court and be struck down which would not just effect individual lawsuits but every American employer? The Catholic church won’t get an exemption. The rules for religious employers have already been written and published. There are 4 conditions and ALL 4 have to be met. Here they are:
"The exemption is only for a “religious employer,” defined as “one that (1) Has the inculcation of religious values as its purpose; (2) primarily employs persons who share its religious tenets; (3) primarily serves persons who share its religious tenets; and (4) is a non-profit organization under section 6033(a)(1) and section 6033(a)(3)(A)(i) or (iii) of the [Internal Revenue] Code.” HHS notes that these provisions of the Code refer to “churches, their integrated auxiliaries, and conventions or associations of churches, as well as to the exclusively religious activities of any religious order.”
Some…the people came to realize that the disaster of 2008 was on Bush’s watch…and they solidly rejected that legacy.Gas prices, unemployment, poverty etc was a lot lower when Bush was president. Romeny distinguished himself from some of Bush’s policies in the 2nd debate
Obama chose to spent 6 trillion, not BushSome…the people came to realize that the disaster of 2008 was on Bush’s watch…and they solidly rejected that legacy.
Fannie mae and freddie mac had nothin’ to do with it.Some…the people came to realize that the disaster of 2008 was on Bush’s watch…and they solidly rejected that legacy.
Hilary2016 is trending on twitter and Obama was just announced to be reelected. What does that say? What has he won?
Four years as a lame duck. The balance of power in Congress hasn’t changed. Every Democrat House member is thinking of the President only in terms of the midterm elections while all the Dem heavy hitters are planning for 2016.
By the end of next year he’ll be lucky if Ried and Pelosi take his phone calls.
To my GOP brethren, keep saying “No!” The duty of the opposition is to oppose.
Why were the Pharisees the legitimate authority? Were the British the “legitimate” authority over the American colonists? Dogma and tradition had long since dominated their entire society, blinding many to the truth; I rather think they were a most illegitimate power elite over the Jewish people who had lost the right to speak for God or His prophets. Were the Jews right in obeying them whey they commanded them to reject Jesus; they were the Jewish authorities, were they not? I personally think it a stretch to draw an analogy between the words of Christ and the conversations with the Pharisees.Yes, to the extend that the power to command was well-defined rather than absolute. I’d rather say that Jesus respected the legitimate authority.
But the High Priest could not, for instance, command Christ to stop saying He was the Messiah. Christ would have not obeyed this. Just like the Holy Spirit prompted Peter to tell the very same High Priest that he would keep preaching Christ and the Gospel despite the direct prohibition to do so.
This is summarized wonderfully in the very profound statement of the Lord: “Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God”. That is simple, yet very complex, because we need to be able to discern what belongs to who.
(Ps. I slightly edited my post above.)
The real problem isn’t really private employers although they’re probably morally implicated, but that’s another issue. What is going to happen to individual employers? Could the HHS mandate go to the court and be struck down which would not just effect individual lawsuits but every American employer?
You also don’t seem to be getting the timeline. This takes effect in less than 60 days. Do you really believe that all that litigation is going to occur in less than 60 days?? I don’t.What is going to happen to individual employers? It is going to be interesting to see what the Church will do. The lawsuits are still out there. The Church will never go along with the HHS mandateThe real problem isn’t really private employers although they’re probably morally implicated, but that’s another issue.
The real problem is that Catholic dioceses can’t BOTH teach the historical and official church teaching and procure abortions for their employees. It’s incoherent. That’s the REAL ISSUE.
About their employees: Dioceses have a lot of different kinds of employees. Some are priests who may or may not serve primarily Catholics. Some are catechists, teachers, social workers, employees of soup kitchens, retreat centers, schools, hospitals etc. Many of whom interact with the general public on a daily basis so that they don’t meet the requirements set for “religious employment.”
In addition, some of these things have had contracts with the federal government where we have taken federal money to operate our hospitals FOR THEM. So you see, this is very complicated. Some of these institutions are run by lay boards acting for religious orders and all that sort of thing.
All of it is like a plate of spaghetti, and it’s going to have to get sorted out really quickly, or it’s going to be WAY EXPENSIVE.
Not all the lawsuits, no. What can the Church do? Will the IRS show up the doors of Churches if they do not go along with itYou also don’t seem to be getting the timeline. I hope you’re right. It is going to be interesting to see what the Church will do. The lawsuits are still out there. The Church will never go along with the HHS mandate

Yeah, reach across the aisle with their feet to kick the democrats outI congratualte President Obama on his election; Lets hope that both major parties reach across the aisle and get some work done.
