There have always been smugglers, so I assumed there have always been restrictions on trade. The debts from the American Revolution were paid for by tariffs.

IOW, we have never had totally free trade.

The internet has been perhaps the most progressive of all ventures in the last 20-50 years. How many conservatives haven’t come on board yet?

Restrictions or deregulation? Which one do you want? Seems like a constant attempt to create winners and losers.

Really??
Are you trying to claim the internet as a progressive political victory?
That’s a gross misuse of the definition.
The free market drove the internet boom,
not the DNC

What’s your definition of progressivism?

Anything related to DNC I’ll bet.

I forget which of the 3 stooges said it: Last one there is a Republican.

In a discussion on politics, I apply the corresponding political definition:
  • a person advocating or implementing social reform or new, liberal ideas.
don’t apply the general definition of progress

No one complained about it because no one was forced to provide it by the government. The Little Sisters of the Poor, for example, probably didn’t provide insurance coverage for birth control. Hobby Lobby was in a similar boat.

Hey, wait a minute! Didn’t Al Gore invent the internet? Think he claimed it.

I really don’t think so. It seems initial use of internet was cheap to free porn.

If you believe “Snopes” you might think not. BUT, he liked it and its his legacy! You know, like Obama’s legacy!

Facts, cold hard facts, have a well-known liberal bias.

I know that makes life tough for a lot of people.

Right, he only said he “created the internet”
Obviously he misspoke, but we must have our fun with it.

Yet another example of SNOPES slanting their coverage to protect liberals.

What I don’t believe is a bunch of far right conspiracy theory sites that literally make large sections of their story up out of thin air. And I certainly don’t make the pretense of being so dull-witted as to believe that kind of nonsense.

As long as you acknowledge that you’re just having fun with it, that’s fine.

But (for Grotto’s benefit), the FACT is that Gore did not claim to have invented the internet.

He did claim, with some justification, to have taken the initiative in creating the legal environment that allowed the internet to become what it is today.

Anyone can make an out of context quote mean anything they want. It’s a form of dishonesty to do so.

Conservatives enjoy a little laugh now and again - we know how overblown egos always manage to say or do something funny!

Personally, I think some restrictions/regulations are necessary. I am not a market anarchist.
