You didn’t pay for the flight suits, luckily, which is all I wore. BDUs and Blues were out of pocket.

My husband has been in for 4 years and this year will be the first year that he will be buying any dress uniforms. 95% of the time they are hanging in a garment bag in the closet. The only reason why he is buying new ones is that he got in a big work out routine and his arms are bigger than when he was in boot camp. lol It isn’t like you are having to buy dress uniforms every year, which are expensive. His allowance last year was almost 500 bucks, so if it stays the same, he will have enough money that we won’t have to go out of pocket.

No, but our Mess Dress was over $200 in the nineties. Doesn’t leave much left for anything else with a one time $300 stipend. Again, I didn’t really mind, though it felt expensive as a 22 year old 2nd Lt.

Out of all the things facing the world this is what they are focusing on? Then again if you are spying on the whole world you probably already know what is going to happen so you have nothing to worry about.

When I was in, it seemed like every couple years there were movements to change uniform regs for ‘morale’ purposes. I never saw a good justification for any of the changes. Certified Navy Twill, poly-cottton, bring back the aviation greens, khaki shirts for enlisted, changing authorizations for covers, changing flight suits from work clothes to out-in-town uniform, changing regs on patches/insignia on flight jackets etc. etc. etc.

Kind of laugh about the Navy camo BDUs. Really, camo? On a ship? Or in port? You’re hiding from whom, exactly? I’m referring to the blue-grey, not the desert camo issued to folks doing the IA assignments in the gulf. We already had coveralls and ‘wash khakis’ for doing the dirty work on the ship. I never felt like I wasn’t in the military because I wasn’t wearing camo. Not much point to it inside a cockpit either. Seems like every change was just an attempt by somebody to get a FITREP or eval bullet vice a solution to an actual need or requirement.

I find it funny that people say it’s a non issue.

First it’s tax $$ which makes all gov’t activity ‘an issue’.

Second people are talking about this instead of…

I can’t tell you the last time I heard, if ever, a news story about a change in uniform.

I’m sure it’s happened very often. It’s not curious that this is the story right now, with the country in a real bind on some major issues?

I’d like to address some questions I have been getting: the President in no way, shape or form directed the Marine Corps to change our uniform cover. We are looking for a new cover for our female Marines for one overriding reason: the former manufacturer went out of business. The Marine Corps has zero intention of changing the male cover.
