Obedience to the Magesterium

It wasn’t a mistake. The Devil is trying to undo your good progress. Unfortunately, seems like Satan is winning from the way you’re posting. I’ll pray for you.

Anything purporting to be a new revelation which contradicts scripture is to be condemned. Jesus is the head of the Church, every church. He is God, the second person of the Trinity. The Church is not above God. This erroneous belief that the authority of the magisterium supercedes that of Jesus Christ is the main reason I’m discerning leaving the Catholic Church. The magisterium has forgotten who is the master.
That is complete nonsense.
Christ established the Catholic Church and entrusted it with the Deposit of Faith. He gave it authority to teach in matters of faith and morals and what it binds on earth is bound in Heaven. This means whatever the Church teaches has the full authority of God behind it. If the Church made an error in a doctrine it would mean Christ had lied.

The Pharisees also created laws and rules, new doctrines to burden the sheep and abuse the flock. They justified themselves by saying it was the will of God. They were condemned by Christ.

““They tie up heavy burdens and lay them on men’s shoulders, but they themselves are unwilling to move them with so much as a finger” (Matthew 23:4).”

I don’t support autocracy, even under the guise of faith.

Well, if you, as a Catholic, reject that the Church is the one established by Christ what can I say. If you accept it is the true Church established by Christ then you know its teachings are correct and supported by God.

I’m not seeing the Magisterium creating “new doctrines”, much less ones that “burden the sheep and abuse the flock”.
I don’t feel the least bit burdened or abused. Do you?

Yes, I actually do feel burdened spiritually. This is why I’ve decided (through much prayer and discernment) to leave the Catholic Church, not necessarily all aspects of the faith, but the church as an institution and autocratic power. There are certain teachings of Catholicism that I no longer want to follow. I feel they separate me from God and actually threaten my relationship with him. I wasn’t raised Catholic. I didn’t see these abuses which have become so clear. I’ve prayed about this decision. It’s where I’m being led and I won’t be held hostage by the Eucharist. The Eucharist is used to keep Catholics in the Church. We’re taught that Jesus is found most completely in the Catholic Church. That’s not true. Some of the greatest saints and martys are Protestant and Orthodox. I should leave, while it’s just disagreement and not hatred that forces me to leave.

I am very sorry you feel this way. There are many things very wrong with your view.
Nevertheless, I doubt anyone can just talk you out of this. Holy Spirit needs to intervene. Come Holy Spirit. Come Lord Jesus.
All I can do is pray that Jesus shows you the way back to his one true church.

I’m muting this thread now because this is just too sad to keep reading.

God bless

I disagree somewhat. I think Fr. James Martin is awesome with what he is doing for the Faith! Go Fr. Martin! Go Fr. Martin! Go Fr. Martin!

While I prefer the “tone” of St. Alphonsus, in his amazing sermons “Delusion of Sinners” and “On the Pains of Hell” (this sermon is absolutely amazing: I highly, highly recommend it), not everyone likes that “tone” nor that path to Holiness. There can be many paths (equally valid) to Holiness!

But we have an obligation to preach Truth, you say? Yes, but we cannot say every True statement at every moment. So the question becomes: what Truths should we say with a particular time/ place/ audience, that will be most likely to be received? When is the opportune time to say a Truth? Which Truth should I choose to say? Also, get to know a person better, and then use the “tone” that, that individual likes the best!

Just like there can be many different religious nuns and preists that emphasize different things, some emphasize helping the poor and others emphasize stopping abortion, so too, we can have different priests with different “tones.”

I also really ❤️ Cardinal Muller! Please read his awesome Manifesto of Faith:) He comes out swinging with the “fraud of the anti-christ.” I am going to try to start giving everyone the benefit of the doubt. Because I’ve been told I “preach” so I need to work on not doing that.

However, on this Communion debate, I must admit, the silliness of conservatives dying on the ant-hill of mortal sin = objective mortal sin, and not mortal sin = our predicted culpability of mortal sin (while recognizing that God will be the judge at the end of time), is a fantastic claim in how non-prudential conservatives are on this issue. I am (for now) on the side of Cardinal Kaspar!

In conclusion: Fr. Martin is really good on a lot of things:)

I would just like to add. But Michael Voris, like Fr. James Martin (Fr. Jim), both preach a ton of Truths. You could learn a lot by listening to them:) Church Militant is a good source on so many things. Just like Fr. Jim is such a good source on so many things.
