The CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) has a BMI calculator for you. You may notice that the acronym was not updated when they added “Prevention”. In government speak, the acronym survives because it is more important than the actual mission of the agency. That is just one more reason to oppose a government takeover of medicine.
I am 6’2" tall and weigh 175 lbs. That weight has been steady for years and is only 5 pounds more than I weighed when I graduated from college in 1971. Most people think I am thin, but the BMI places me above the middle point for normal. Who thinks 144 lbs is normal for someone 6’2"?
This might be funny if it was just a casual conversation, but to deny medical treatment on BMI alone is gravely wrong.
