His focus on germs and what he says speaks of something like OCD. In fact they are tell-tale signs. What ordinary kid would think sharing chips spreads germs?

I didn’t say his rudeness was excusable but that if he is stressed by his fears it may explain why. If he has a psychological disorder it needs addressing.must be nice having an medical excuse to be a brat

OCD can often interfere with all sorts of things. One of the criteria listed on that website is if compulsions take up over an hour a day. With some, it takes much longer every day. Personal, social, educational life suffers, as can careers. With some, the stress can become so great that even worse problems can come about.What I find amazing is how these illnesses excuse every kind of rudeness, yet don’t interfere with school or work or daily life.
The nephew may be rude, but he needs help before his fears become greater, as can happen with OCD when it is not treated. He needs our prayers, as well, not just condemnation for rudeness.

Is he facing any problems in school? How are his grades? You mentioned he hates girls, yet his three best friends are girls. Most boys hang out with other boys, or in a mixed group. It is very rare that a boy would be in a group of all girls. Bullying or being ostracized could be a problem. It is no excuse for acting out, of course, but it could explain why he’s being such a s***. If he is being bullied, please don’t think it’s just a phase or think that he has to man up. It is a very serious problem and the effect can last a lifetime.

It does seem very “off” to me. Sometimes, if you’re isolated or bullied, you cling to any form of friendship you can get. Maybe his parents know or sense that, but don’t want to pursue it. If that really is the problem, I would encourage you to tell his parents that they need to get help, because it’s not good to leave such things unchecked long term.

A Dr. who specializes in OCD told me that while all people obsess a bit or are a bit compulsive, (how many of us double check to make sure that …(fill in the blank for your particular issue here…) ODC is defined by the fact that it interferes with one’s ability to lead a normal life.What I find amazing is how these illnesses excuse every kind of rudeness, yet don’t interfere with school or work or daily life.
Knowing people whose lives have been turned upside down by this illness, I hope that we might offer prayers on their behalf.
But back to our O.P. …we do not have a positive diagnosis of OCD. Perhaps we might pray for the child that he might just be a rude teen-ager who will (with the help of our prayers) grow to become a gentle grown-up. Amen.

My heartfelt sympathies and prayers are always with those who suffer from real illnesses that really do interfere with their lives in a negative way - my annoyance is with fakers who claim various illnesses in order to excuse rudeness of every kind, but yet conveniently don’t seem to be affected in any way that negatively influences their grades, income, or daily routine.

His grades are wonderful. All A’s and he really is very smart. I think it’s odd that he’s best friends with 3 girls, but he has something in common with all of them…they’re all very passionate about art, one is Italian. He’s 75% Italian. He seems to be closest with her. I think they all think he’s a bit ridiculous though, he said all 3 of them like him as a friend but think he’s weird. I asked if they knew he hated girls, he said yes, so I guess he’s told them.

In what way does he define his hatred of girls then? If his only friends are three girls and he is fairly close with them, what’s the story? Does he hate an image of “Girls” that only exists in his head? Does his phobia extend to girls as well as germs (cooties?
) Does he feel that girls somehow caused his problems? Does he resent girls for not paying attention to him? Is he just somehow trying to assert some form of masculinity?
